Kojima Productions - “we continue to have a very good partnership with PlayStation”

I hope this statement has helped ease the anxiety for having their mini meltdowns over the weekend. You are OK, everything will be OK... Just breath in and breath out.

I suppose the only potential silver lining to babies throwing a fit on social media is maybe it expedites the announcement of whatever Kojima is working on with Sony.

Big Kojimbos games will all come to Steam. Whether Sony or MS publish.

I'm more curious to see what is this game that he couldn't do without the cloud. It will be exclusive to the xCloud? Let's see what happens.

No, it's definitely sad.

And likely prompted by a lot of angry tweeters, won't be surprised if there were a certain number of death threats going by how the calm people on twitter usually operate.

Sadly, too many people still believe that everything on Twitter is real. Even many in this very thread.

Yeah. It's sad that they have to clarify.

They didn't have to clarify. It was already understood by the far majority. But some companies are still living in the days where we all believed Twitter was real. Almost 40% of twitter posters are bots. And I personally could see another 10% being trolls at any given time.

So with that in mind, do we "REALLY" know how people felt about Kojima showing up to MS' conference? No! And it wasn't even the first time he's done that with MS either.

Kojima also talked about cloud gaming a whole lot back in 2019, not sure why this context is never brought up because it kind of hints where he is going:

"I think within the next few years, gaming will move on to streaming. Movies, dramas, and games will all be streamed, and you'll enjoy them on your iPad or iPhone or a TV anytime, anywhere. When that happens, games, films, and dramas will have to compete in the same space."

"5G commercial services have launched, Google announced a cloud gaming service, and Apple is strengthening its position in the gaming industry. Cloud gaming allows direct delivery of games on any screen, be it a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop, without the need for consoles. Cloud gaming experienced a boom around 4, 5 years ago, but there was no phenomenon carrying it. Many say it'll end in failure, but I think it didn't work out because the technology wasn't advanced enough. Now that 5G has launched, we'll see a huge shift to cloud gaming during the next five years. Games will change drastically. Of course, high-end console games like the ones released nowadays will remain. But technology will keep progressing, and we'll be able to create brand new types of games with novel gimmicks. Entertainment as a whole will change and allow more liberty. We'll start seeing completely different games these next five years as 5G spreads. There's one big thing I have in mind related to streaming as well. I can't say anything more as I don't want to spoil though."

"I really want to do something a little different. In the next five years, the platform will be streaming. I think there's something ahead, and I'm thinking about that. It's a movie, but it's a game...I'm thinking of that kind of idea and I want to do that kind of thing."

I think his idea is for a horror game that follows you everywhere.

Yeah, I can't remember if it was related to him or some other project, but I remember reading something about the idea of a horror game that basically uses your real life phone details. Taking location data, contacts, etc etc to build a horror narrative out of it. Though I don't know what the "game" part, or what the driving purpose or objective would be to even be, but I could see him pulling off some crazy stuff.

Death Stranding is a fantastic game, but it isn't for everyone. If you don't like it, wait until you go to Chapter 3 and until the second map unlocks. Spend some time there, and drop if you don't like it there.
It's like this with most Kojima games in my experience. I won't go as far as to say it's love/hate but sometimes his quirkiness shines through in ways that's a bit off-putting. Sometimes it manifests itself in odd pacing and other times poor Johnny is peeing his pants.

I'm trying to picture what this means from a potential gameplay perspective. Any idea what things a cloud game do that a traditional game can't?
It's theoretical really. If you run a cloud game on a super-computer then you can have graphics better than any console in your browser and on your phone.

Xbox mostly uses Series X for cloud computing so unless they start duct-taping a bunch of them together, I don't expect it to really be pushing things the console can't.

There's possibilities for shared worlds, asynchronous multiplayer, syncing with different devices outside of consoles like your phone, etc. Most of that could be done just with servers like any MMO, so who knows really. It's still mostly uncharted territory.

The old Crackdown demos were definitely pushing for destruction physics computation far past what the consoles alone could handle, but that seemed to massively implode.

Seriously guys, don't you think if they'd signed up Kojima to produce a title exclusively for Xbox or Gamepass or XCloud then either Phil or Kojima himself would have stated that up-front?

Partnerships in business aren't neccessarily exclusive, and lets face it Sony even signed up to a strategic partnership with MS for cloud tech in 2019.

Lolz the IP is not own by them! If the company wants the game everywhere they have to do it!
I know its not owned by them. I just said they were exclusive to Playstation from the start.
Just like most the Personas. Was weird for the fanbase that has bought and played them all on Playstation.

Somy paid for exclusivity before, they could of kept it that way

if a billionaire company throws money at something .. things happen.

The way I read it is that this Xbox deal is for the same game that he was going to do with Stadia before it was cancelled.
Sony don't have the infrastructure to do it like MS and Google do, so there wasn't any other option really if he wanted to do this game.

Some of these comments…

Especially people talking about Sony "fanboys". A good bit of you have to be sub 20 years old.

The shoe was on the other foot during the 360 gen. Every game outlet; N4G, here, etc. had heavy Xbox fans constantly raining on PlayStation and making fun of it.

Geez.

These fans exist on BOTH sides. People want to feel validated for what they purchased, and the growing social media presence that has created a space of people in love with getting "sick burns" for likes has only made it worse.

Is what it is, as far as the actual announcement goes. Kojima's name does carry weight even though I do feel he is past his prime. Good announcement for Xbox during an otherwise mediocre conference.

I will never understand how this egomaniac, failed B-movie director gets so much attention and reverence. I thought that the Death Stranding clusterfuck would have been a wake-up call for the majority, but Kojima seems more powerful than ever before.
Excuse me, who are you?
