Clerks 3 Trailer

At some point these characters go from funny to absolutely pathetic and I'd argue we're well past that point and have been for 2 decades

Clerks was a movie of its time. It was a perfect culture film for the 90's alt youth. Clerks 2 was just a comedy. This movie looks lazy.

Still love this scene from the first one

Clerks was a milestone at a time when indie movies were starting to garner mainstream attention and underground cult followings. It was so fresh compared to the polished, big budget Hollywood films of the time. There's a real blue collar authenticity to that first one.

Authenticity is a much paraded, but rarely achieved quality in our crowded media space today, and Kevin Smith has lost a sense of what is authentic.

I'm curious but cautious.

Don't care for his "recent" stuff except Red State.

But I got so many chicks turned on to the 1st one back in the day :messenger_grinning:

Never really assumed Kevin Smith would stop making films, but I guess I was hoping he would go more into producing films for the next generation of indie film makers (giving a boost to talented up and comers).
Dude got a second lease on life so can't knock him for doing what he loves even if his projects aren't for me anymore.

Clerks was great, still holds up as a glimpse into the 90's and the indie revolution. Clerks 2, I thought, was pretty good. It was Smith at his most restrained since the first Clerks, and having an actual quality actress in Rosario Dawson helped to anchor it some.

Cautiously optimistic. That didn't look bad to me, just Kevin Smith-ish.

Fuck yeah I'm in.

Smith drank the hollywood koolaid, I doubt this is going to be good.

The trailer was eh.

I don't think we needed another one of these movies where everyone is depressingly old and working at a convenience store still.

He definitely is doing what he has lived. With the references to him having a heart attack and making the first movie. He has said in interviews that he wrote Randall as himself and was even wanting to play as him in the original film.

This may be the movie that gets me back into theaters after Covid.

It's clearly meta in that he had the heart attack and realized he needed to make this movie.

I feel in general Kevin Smith went from making unique films to making films for his fanbase. He always had fun callbacks to other movies but now it's just always retreading the same jokes and characters.

Clerks 1 is still one of the GOAT pure indie comedies. It crazily influenced modern culture, the way we talk about pop culture now is heavily influenced by Clerks. The whole Marvel Cinematic Universe and the style of dialog etc, all influenced by Clerks. It was and will always be a classic.

I wasnt a real fan of the sequel. Mallrats and Chasing Amy were good tho. Not sure Ill even watch this.

Enjoyed the Death Star reference:

It'll likely be pretty pathetic, but hopefully it will have its moments.

If you like references this movie looks right up your alley...

It'll suck but I'll probably still see it.

This is like having a favourite uncle, who, when you were a little kid, used to take you on super cool adventures, and play all sorts of fun and exciting games with you... but now he's old, and all he does is sit in the corner and shit himself repeatedly, while you and the rest of your family, try to ignore his utter and complete descent into shit covered irrelevance.

Guessing you're not gonna see it then?

Doesn't seem like a nice way to treat your uncle, who used to take you on super cool adventures, and play all sorts of fun and exciting games with you.

I still think about Mallrats every time I'm on an escalator. Plus "like the back of a Volkswagen" and "Sailboat!"

All right. The trailer didn't turn me off. I will watch this but I have my doubts it will ever top the original. If it lands about where Clerks 2 did, I will be happy but I'm not holding my breath on this one.

- What are you doing? You promised me breakfast.

- Breakfast, shmreakfast. Look at the score, for Christ's sake. It's only the second period and I'm up 12 to 2. Breakfasts come and go, Rene, but Hartford, "the Whale," they only beat Vancouver once, maybe twice in a lifetime.

Clerks was about Smith in his 20s.

Clerks II was about Smith in his 30s and having to take responsibility for the first time.

Clerks III is about Smith in his 40s and what happens after he almost died from a heart attack.

Smith and the other two are in their 50s now though are they not?

There's a real blue collar authenticity to that first one.

It's the text book example of the advice given to authors "Write about what you know". It was the first movie I ever saw that really showed what it was like to work in retail, I think it landed with a lot of people that have worked retail.

Looks like it will be a decent movie. As much as I hate Kevin Smith's pop culture fanboying as of late, I still enjoy his movies for the most part (Yoga Hosers was shit). Even Jay & Silent Bob 2 was surprisingly decent and heartfelt.

I haven't seen Clerks 1 or 2 so the only comment I have is this looks cheaply made. Which shouldn't really be surprising. I really need to catch up on Kevin Smith's films.
I've literally only seen Dogma and Tusk and enjoyed them both.

Clerks is his best. The dialog makes the movie. It can be a hard watch in todays short attention span world but it rewards those give it the time.

They own the convenience store now

I never watched the original. Never knew about it being a classic and how it influenced everyone, etc. Dunno, i suppose it was a thing in America only?

Like most trilogies, the third movie will be the worst here.

Still, I'm super biased. Kevin Smith is my favorite director.

Love these characters. He makes the movies I can re-watch repeatedly and feel as though I'm hanging with old friends. I have yet to find that with any other movie.

I seriously haven't been this excited about a movie since Clerks 2 came out

I was having dreams about that movie, I was so excited

Seriously dudes, heck yeah - CLERKS 3!!! :-) :-) :-) <3

I'm from the U.K. and people that worked in video stores used to watch this and related to stupid customers (I was one of those workers) also know of people in France who like Kevin smith and are excited to see this. Yeah I haven't watched his newer movies since red state but I'm up for clerks 3
