If Sony decided to make Destiny 3 exclusive, they wouldn't magically stop people from playing Destiny 2 on Xbox.

And yet all Minecraft spin-offs that are NOT old games still go to PlayStation. Minecraft Legends in 2020 and the upcoming Minecraft spinoff in 2023 are all multiplatform.

First of all their royalties on game sales and MTX are not a small chunk. Also, if you took Activision-Blizzard's catalogue and excluded PS customers from it that would also remove a selling point of PS (that you can also play those games on it).

Now imagine someone buying EA, Ubisoft, and Roxkstar/Take2 and making it impossible for XSX|S players to have new games from these studios from day X. How do you think sales of XSX and XSS would go?

Now you can see why it is not JUST the cash flow from COD game sales and MTX (and other Activision-Blizzard games) royalties, but also from the fact that having those games also on PS does not put a barrier to entry for consumers and thus reduce the number of people gaming and spending on PS?

MS did not guarantee CoD in perpetuity. No company would do that with their IP. After obligations are met I'm sure Sony could come up with a reasonable offer to MS to continue to receive the game. It is not like MS hasn't put other IP they own on PlayStation before. They have been far less likely to block software than to ensure that software is on Game pass.

Spin-offs or not, they are still brand new entries on one of the most popular IPs in gaming, and could still drive console sales.

No sane company would write up a perpetual agreement. The agreement they've sent to Sony fully guarantees cover for this generation at the very least.

This seems to be a more credible pledge for support than even seen with the Bungie support where there's nothing really binding.

What sort of chaos? I have family and friends in UK government sectors. Not exactly GCHQ so wouldn't know about less transparent sectors but at worst support would drop and they would have a switching over period with training, workshops, etc.

This is about the now confirmed ask by Microsoft, for Sony to allow XBOX Game Pass to be part of the PlayStation platform. Although that ask was refused or "Blocked" as Microsoft refers to it, this has huge implications for this industry as we know it.

In all fairness it does seem like gamepass on a competitor console would be more akin to a streaming service then a place where you can buy games.

The only way it would negatively affect Sony is if games like FIFA and cod appeared on gamepass which would take away sales for Sony. But then Sony shouldn't charge so much for the games and people wouldn't see GP as such a good deal

Even CMAs main concern with this deal seems to be more about SLC in Cloud gaming and subscription model gaming.
Sony is bitching saying people will buy Xboxes if COD is on XGP.
So Sonys actual argument isnt being taken seriously but the Cloud Gaming and Subscription gaming argument made by no one, is the one CMA is really looking at.
