Makes me sad and angry that this thread only have 2 pages. Seems like not many older people here but just younger audiences who were not playing yet video games when the originals came out.
I say it one more time, Resident Evil is more action oriented and not very scary because of it. These kind of games appeal more to younger audiences.
Silent Hill is much more scary and is targeting older audiences.
What gets me is all these dumb pachinko machine comments. Like, come on. They need to give that stuff a rest!
Besides, Korea doesn't allow gambling in the country, where a new game was recently rated. So why every forum I go to has a lame pachinko machine joke, I don't know.
And yep,
Resident Evil stopped being scary a long ass time ago. I reckon like you say, many people claiming to be hardcore fans haven't even played any of the games from the fixed camera angles era. You can kind of tell they lie to make themselves sound high and mighty.
On GameFAQs, they blast all this rubbish about how they are terrible, due to the tank controls. But you see, they likely started with RE4 because that's an action game mainly, and an overrated game at that. They couldn't care less for the older games, because they don't play like shooters. So why they're proclaiming to be "hardcore fans" of the series, I don't really know. Just to brag a lot of fanboy nonsense, I suppose.
Plus, RE as a whole has basically been divided into three categories now. The RE Engine era being all of the post RE6 and
Revelations titles from about 2017 up to now, and then there's those who started with games like 4 or 5, and then we've got the old school, original wave, because of the switch to third person.
