It's crazy to me that it's thought that Microsoft and Activision cannot merge, but that Kroger and Albertson's can. Kroger and Albertson's have duopolies or even monopolies on communities across the US. I will continue to buy ATVI shares.

Part of me is hoping the deal goes through so Sony can stop act cocky and anti consumer bitch they are now.

The other part is MS is really shitty when it comes to maintaining and coordination . Halo is a prime example of how MS is. I am really surprised play underground team isn’t really affected by MS management yet because every other studio is.
Same.

Step away from the keyboard Jez, LOL

Probably best for his health if he stops following this deal now, regardless of how it turns out. Weird meltdown to have when the phase 2 process has just barely started, basically nothing more than both sides stating where they stand after the phase 1.

A few weeks ago, people were saying Sony was embarrassing themselves, shooting themselves in the foot, falling for Microsoft's trap, etc.

This deal could go either way, but it's clear that the "Microsoft is confident" crap people were spreading the past few weeks was all bs.

I'm sure Microsoft would like to go back in time and announce that Starfield and Redfall are going to be released on PlayStation consoles.

It is odd isn’t it, the bar does seem to be set quite low for ‘too powerful’ when it comes to MS and this deal according to CMA. That being said, I still expect the deal to go through with concessions. Like any proposal, you aim above what you want, it gets rejected / amended, you kick up a fuss then settle for around the terms you want. But we’ll have to wait and see.

Time will tell what/if any damage Sony has done to itself depending on the result. The truest thing in marketing and politics is that there is no greater damage than what you can do to yourself. If the deal goes through, Sony has very publicly stated how damaging they feel it is to their brand and services, a wave MS wouldn't mind riding I'm sure.

If these agencies are supposed to protect us, I suggest they offer us to make the decision. Put it up for a vote? Let the people decide what they want.

Unfortunately this is pure politics and has nothing to do with what’s good for the consumers..

I just read Jezzz Corden fan-fict...i mean Analytic Article about it.

It started good but quicky became like a threat towards Sony and a wet-dream of how MS could destroy Sony in it's own game.

I didn't know that PlayStation dominance was thanks to MS being mindful of PlayStation's tiny resources.
If Sony finds a way to have this deal stopped they likely immediately become a corporate target for Microsoft. No idea on what that looks like but it will be interesting to watch.

I have no idea what the article is about but just thinking logically about corporate America, there is no way the deal dies without massive blowback against Sony.

3.7 Sony is the market leader for consoles and has been for over 20 years. Its PlayStation platform is ahead of Xbox in all relevant metrics (as is Nintendo).

This text from page 9 of MSFT's phase 2 submission is really fun, if it is accurate, as they are tying themselves in knots from what they've already said, and it finally puts to rest that the PS3 had more working units sold and more Monthly Active User counts.

Anyway, the important point in this statement, is that the Wii outsold the PS3 in those 20years, so either Nintendo isn't a direct competitor to PlayStation and Xbox, as the CMA concluded - something that MSFT disagrees with in phase 1. Or Playstation has only been the market leader - continuously - since they released PS4 and sold more than the WiiU did. Or Nintendo aren't in competition with Xbox and PlayStation, and PlayStation 3 won that generation too.

What I'm finding reading the phase 2 submission is that it is a tough read because it is just so wrong. Even this one:

3.8 Sony engages in conduct today which is reflective of its market power in console gaming. Such is Sony’s market strength that it has recently imposed a significant price increase for its PlayStation 5 console, of up to 20% in most markets outside of the US (6% in the UK).32 This move has been described by commentators as “displaying an unfortunate arrogance”.33 Xbox has confirmed that it has no plans to raise the price of the Xbox Series X or Series S and that the consoles will remain at their current price in the US, UK and Europe. 3

How do you get a plural of commentator in there when only one newspaper article is referenced for the quote? Are they stretching it to be a double authored article with synchronised group think? This is a trillion-dollar company's proofing of an official document to a major nation competition regulator and even simple stuff like that is incorrect.

What kind of “blowback?”

Who knows but it's going to be interesting to watch from both sides. Microsoft will have $70 billion to invest in other areas of the industry, but maybe the relationships Sony has developed will matter more than short term cash.

If this one fails to pass. It's probably the end of publisher acquisitions for Xbox and Sony. Can be a good and bad thing depending how you look at it.

Activision will be a prime meal for apple to swoop in... If they really wanted into the gaming sector.

I still think it will go through but this shit is hilarious. If it were the other way around he’d be bragging about Microsoft’s muscle.

What was it again that someone here said? "gangsta shit"?

The first time I encountered Tim Dog was a vid of him stalking someone outside of gamestop, insisting that they were going to buy an xbox and that XBOX would NPD that month.

They didn't "win" NPD. I think XBOX went a few years from the time he made that vid before they "won" NPD again.

I only know of him by that stalkerish behaviour.

That's not really how businesses work. After Sony clowned Microsoft's Xbox last generation (their Godly "sharing games on PS4" video must have fucking stung) Microsoft was only too happy to sign a deal with Sony to help with their cloud infrastructure. You don't get to be a trillion-dollar company by holding grudges.

If the deal falls apart, and I seriously doubt that it will - if anyone knows how to close M&A, it's fucking Microsoft - their will some pretty sizeable fallout. Activision Blizzard's stock will tumble, and Kottick will likely be ousted. Microsoft's stock will also take a hit, because it's USD$70b purchase likely means its projected forecasts for Game Pass growth and gaming division revenue go out the window and they're back to square one on planning how to get Game Pass to 100 million subscribers.

What will be really interesting is what happens for Xbox if their plans are disrupted. With USD$70b allocated, I suspect Microsoft still invests elsewhere for Xbox. They might not get ABK, but that just means Nadella could go shopping to fill that revenue and adoption driver gap.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
If the deal goes through and Sony agrees to MS 's terms, CoD will be guaranteed on PS consoles till *AT LEAST* 2027, and the at least implies there will definitely be room for further negotiation and deal expansion.

Think they might have missed the boat a bit tbh if they're drawing the line at gifs and videogames

Now that video games are bigger than Disney buying Fox, I’d say the opposite. Dumbing down this acquisition to “just video games” which has 70 billion dollars on the table is naive. The CMA/FTC are doing exactly what they should be doing.

I'm not downplaying it, I understand there's a lot of money involved and so questions will be asked. It just seems funny that gifs and videogames are the line where tech has become too powerful in their eyes.

If I were Sony I would interpret this as after the year 2027 you can get fucked. If it goes through I totally expect exclusive COD on next gen.

If Sony can’t make a comparable GAAS shooter to replace COD as a PSN driver in FIVE YEARS they should just give up. Nintendo did it on the fucking Wii U and its 13.5 million unit install base with Splatoon and now they have the highest selling game of all time in Japan.
