Resolution mode 1800p-2160p unlocked 40fps (120 Hz w/ VRR)

I'll be using this mode, found it extremely smooth in Uncharted legacy of thieves.

I will wait for DF to know the difference in rendering quality, but for now, I think I will choose unlocked 40 fps plus VRR. It may be the highest quality possible with a frame rate of minimum 40 fps, but probably higher most of time.

In before we get complaints about how they should've dropped the PS4's resolution to 480p so they could use the extra headroom for better graphics on PS5

The last one played fine on the PS4 Pro so this one will too.

It'll be great when it goes on a deep sale like the last one did a year or so after release.

I have a PS5 for exclusives but I've been neglecting them because I'm tired of having to choose between resolution and "performance," if you want to call 60 FPS that.

This is one of the worst trends. Set a standard of 4K/60 minimum and develop games accordingly. Imagine being greeted with this screen if you don't know what any of it means.

4k 60 fps on a 10 tflops machine would mean getting graphics somewhere between a ps4 and ps3. You don't want that.

Gamers aren't stupid. They will figure out what feels the best.

This makes no sense, just pick one or keep pick the default you prefer in the PS5 settings and it will automatically put it to performance or graphics.

It's stupid to neglect games for something so small.....

Also, 4k isn't the standard even now.

Native 4K30 All. Day. Long.

I have a C1 and i dont even give a shit about HFR and VRR modes.

Was going to consider the 40fps mode but not at the expense of even a single pixel drop in resolution. Will stick to the best possible looking mode, native 4k30

"Why 400/500$ machine no run 4k/60 FPS? :("

Leaning towards Favor Performance + HFR + VRR.

1440p is a perfectly fine resolution for me if the framerate is well above 60fps in most scenarios.

Will wait for a proper analysis of all the modes though.

They mentioned performance mode having better graphics than quality. Weird, I know.

Why would you want a lower resolution at 60 FPS instead of the higher resolution at 60 FPS? Hello?

I want all the fancy lighting/draw distance/effects with 60fps, which we almost never get. It's always 60fps with features deactivated, or 30fps with all the visual bells and whistles, both at higher resolutions I don't care about. I want the 'low' resolution best of both worlds.

The question is what the graphics difference between checkerboard 4k+60fps and 1440p+HFR+VRR is.
If they look the same other than resolution then the latter is preferable.

I don't understand comments like this, you need to be first to shit up the thread?

Kinda odd they don't offer a 1080p mode for PS5, I bet there's a fairly sizable amount of people still gaming on their 1080P sets.

Do we know if there are graphical differences between settings apart from resolution and framerate?

For example, Horizon FW in Quality mode looks way better regarding shadows and AO than in Performance or Balanced modes. On the other hand, The Last of us remake uses the same exact settings except resolution between graphic modes.

Favour performance bbe.

Surely vrr is just turned on on all modes right, just incase there's a little blip in performance?

Do you even understand how 40fps works in 120hz?
Yeah I do, I've even played a game at 40fps. I realise now that attempting to communicate my dismay at targeting 40fps being pitched again as "higher frame rate" probably shouldn't have been done in reference to such an anticipated title. It was a throwaway reaction informed by people saying 120fps was possible for this game, I assumed a cross gen game that was described as not taking full advantage of the hardware would have been running at 60fps minimum.

Guess not. Apologies to all.

Playstation have done a good job with modes and while im not typically a fan of some games going all out with useless options.. these are simple.
