Microsoft has entered into a 10-year commitment to bring Call of Duty to @Nintendo following the merger of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard King. Microsoft is committed to helping bring more games to more people – however they choose to play. @ATVI_AB

I'm also pleased to confirm that Microsoft has committed to continue to offer Call of Duty on @Steam simultaneously to Xbox after we have closed the merger with Activision Blizzard King. @ATVI_AB @ValveSoftware

Microsoft is committed to bringing more games to more people... so when will starfield be announced for PS5 then? or is it only for call of duty just because you have to for the acquisition to go through?

It's not like Valve needed the money in order to survive, but it's calladuty

Cant blame Jim for his attempts to get the best deal for SOny but it may not work.

It's just how poker go's really. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. None of us have any knowledge on how it will play out but Microsoft literally just played a Straight flush this morning with their Nintendo and Steam statements.

Sony and regulators still may have a Royal Flush though.

- are you going to change something?
Phil: nope
- ...what about now?
- no
- yeah, but you're buying a lot of stuff for no reason?!
- bitch, I just want the money

Bethesda acquisition happened with no issues so no need to pretend to care about the players outside their ecosystem.

They are committed to bringing games to everyone when that merger is under investigation. They didn't mention any of this at first back in January for a reason.

And honestly it's working...they are attacking in all fronts: 10 year deals with everyone including Nintendo, they even got Valve's Gabe Newell giving a public statement just a few hours ago, even unions have been mentioned this past week.

They are doing everything for this to go through including shaping public opinion on this. At this point Sony will have to accept that 10 year deal and just move on. It's pretty clear there's not much more they can do.

You know what could be amazing? If we get Call of Duty WaW, MW1&2, Black Ops 1&2, etc on Switch with full online support.

It would please everyone!

They are really desperate to have call of duty to themselves ain't they? They're even willing to wait 10 years for it and are using all their influence to push the deal along. I also think sony know what they're doing too. They got 10 years out of it, instead of the original 3. Thats a massive difference. 10 years is a looong time.

They were always going to keep it multiplatform like Minecraft. Newell basically states that this contract isn't even necessary. From the very beginning, they said they want COD on Playstation. Sony has been shitting the bed on this one. Newell specifically states that no one does contracts like this on Steam or anywhere else.

MS was never going to be on every major business news station doing interviews for every major government telling them that its staying multiplatform and then just say they were lying and change their mind.

COD wasnt on Nintendo consoles, so that's one change.
They've clearly communicated why they're making this purchase. Gamepass content and mobile.

At this point, anyone still pushing this conspiracy about the deal being wholly about taking COD from PlayStation needs to unwrap their tinfoil hat.

Oh for sure, in 10 years PS6 will probably be on its 2nd or 3rd year lol.

They commited to 3 years. That's it. So yeah they were going to keep it as is temporarily. Do you really think they would sign another deal with Sony after that 3 years is up? Really? Their main competitor, who has been kicking their ass almost the entire time they've been in the industry! Come on now. Don't be naive.

originally, Microsoft wanted to have call of Duty as an xbox exclusive going into next gen but they had no choice but to offer Sony 10 years because of regulators. Xbox fans were even saying the same thing at the start. That Microsoft would only fulfill current contracts before going xbox and pc only. Now its a conspiracy theory apparently...

Jim Ryan is a genius. He has united Nintendo and Xbox and Steam in a much closer fashion, both companies (Nintendo and Steam) are now effectively in support of the deal in a more public fashion than before.

I've said from literally day 1 it will stay multiplatform. Yes, that is really what I think.

All the COD games are on PS also. And they already publicly stated that it's staying that way. But Ryan is demanding these unnecessary guarantees and then not even signing onto them, so here we are.

Jim don't want xbox to own cod. Simple as that. Is not about the demands.

They committed to 3 years after Sony's deal ended. So basically, to 2027. They did that because it really makes no sense to tie yourself to a legally binding agreement when you have no idea how your competition plans to play out this gen.

Keeping the option available for horse trading is a logical business decision. There's no agreement in place for Minecraft, for example. And yet they're keeping it multiplatform.

Worth pointing out that even the three years on the table is way more concrete than anything they're getting from Sony's acquisition of Bungie. As it stands, There's absolutely no guarantee that Bungie's next game comes out on Xbox.

I've said from literally day 1 it will stay multiplatform. Yes, that is really what I think.

Most of us did because of contracts that were already signed but majority also thought it would go xbox/ pc only after it expired. I don't remember anyone saying it would stay multiplatform continuously.

I did from the very beginning in all the earliest threads. It never made sense for them to pull such a big game from such a big platform. It is a community of players that they don't want to disrupt, exactly like Minecraft. It's enough of a benefit for them to be able to say every single year buy it on PS if you want for $70 but it's day 1 on GP. They were never going to pull it from PS, just like they didn't pull Minecraft.

Not going to lie, I got black Ops II on WiiU, playing 2 player with my buddy each having our own screen was awesome.. even if the system was a mess.

Maybe on new hardware :)

MS bought Bethesda. Starfield is 1st party. Sony bought Insomniac. Spider Man is 1st party.
Sony didn't even need to buy Insomniac for Marvel's Spider-Man to continue to be a first-party exclusive.

Microsoft on the other hand had to buy Bethesda and then cancel Starfield for the PS5 in order to make that game a first-party exclusive to their ecosystem.

They're not the same.

Yeah a 1st party game that Sony own the cinematic rights to, is totally the same as buying a 3rd party franchise that was meant to come to PS
But Sony has had the cinematic rights to Spider-Man for at least the last 3 decades. How many Spider-Man games have come to video games in the last 3 decades?

...regulators still may have a Royal Flush though.
Regulators should think today if Sony and MS did not already grow too much and stop now allowing them to buy up their supposed competition. (Embracer and Tencent probably too)
MS needed studios, they could not properly compete with Halo, Gears and Forza alone (and the nonsensical Kinect focus) gamepass without more games also barely moves the needle so far. I think Bethesda and the group of small studios should have sufficed to make them pretty equal to Sony, in the near future, and Sony should not have been allowed to secure Insomniac or at least not Bungie.

More often than not I don't get what regulators even do, or should do. eg what lunatic allowed Facebook to buy whatsapp. We were probably lucky that the PS3 was such a struggle and Sony not able to do more while MS was kind of sleeping on the wheel.

MS puts everything on steam and has said they intended to bring CoD to switch from the beginning. Not really much in the way of news, but it has been slow in the gaming news department so far this month.

Microsoft has effectively turned things they had ALWAYS committed to doing into clever weapons to help push the acquisition through. It is my firm belief Sony's public resistance has only helped assure the deal goes through without the kinds of damaging concessions that would have hurt the acquisition's value to Microsoft and Xbox.
