The deal will go through mate. Cloud gaming means you don't need expensive console's and SONY games aren't cheaper
MS lawyers will have a field day.

IF I was MS I'll just buy SEGA and be done with it

Sony

Nintendo
He chose to draw attention to select comments that, in isolation, appear to show Microsoft in a stronger position than they really are with this deal. Those comments he left out provided crucial context of the CMAs message.

If that is the reason you chose to shit on Idas, then you do you. He chose to highlight those points because CMA not being open to behavioral remedies was expected and the bigger news is that they are somehow open to it.

I see MS response is that 10 years of COD should do it. I don’t see how that would address the CMAs concerns at all. The language doesn’t seem to match.

But we’ll see.
I didn’t interpret it that way - the fact that they called out ‘existing or potential’ commitments that don’t appear to be there suggests to me they think that would be good enough if they were completed. Existing is Nintendo, because it’s agreed. Potential is Sony which doesn’t exist because Sony didn’t agree to it. At least how I read it.

But I suspect technically that Microsoft filing an enforceable 10 year commitment doesn’t need Sony to agree to anything, if the CMA agrees it’s fair and provides time needed for cloud to mature, then they may consider it an acceptable remedy. Could also explain Kotick’s ‘won’t take our calls comment’ because they were trying to get that done.

Lot of runway left here.

I like the idea of sellling them off in pieces, they keep COD as the main publisher and the other franchises get sold to different publishers.

Man, that's rough. Literally first thing I said when I heard their provisional finding is that they seem like they don't know the first thing about the industry currently. I can't imagine Activision would say something like that unless they were just dumbfounded at some of the claims.

That was going to be their response to anything other than "approved".

Deal or no deal, Microsoft will be just fine. These Jez bozos with their doom and gloom need to relax.

Microsoft has more than enough studios to crank out games and compete.

It's dead.

The language is so strong that only a consent decree going into perpetuity would satisfy them.

Would Microsoft sign one?

10 years should be enough for Sony to make a real multi platform CoD competitor with Bungie, now that London Studios are making the next Playstation exclusive "Destiny".

It's very likely that they're fully aware Microsoft offered a 10-year deal to Sony and that wasn't enough.
Impossible that they aren't aware of that. Also not at all relevant.

Sony doesn't get to decide what is an acceptable remedy - that would be a horrible precedent. Completely unethical.

Are you kidding me right now?

The last big Xbox show last June all i could read was "Console Launch Exclusive" including the fact Xbox has a 2 day embargo for all multiplatform announcements in there, meaning publishers could only mention other platforms for the 3rd party announcements 2 or 3 days after their big show to try and appear they had even more exclusives then they actually did.

This was talked about here and everything. Not even Sony ever pulled this shit before.

MS are just bad at choosing their partnerships...which is why they are desperate to find their own Genshin Impact. But clearly they still do with stuff like High On Life. They just don't go "viral" the same way Stray or Fall Guys do for Sony.
None of their timed exclusive are at the level of ff16 and f7 remake.
So imagine all big 3rd party games at level getting picked apart by both companies.
It's not good for us consumers.

I'm having a hard time understanding how that acquisition could "damage the competition" when it's actually evening it out. Sony currently has the stronger marketshare and better IPs, it's not like that will be threatened overnight. I'm not even sure what they mean by "lower the competition", does it suggest that if both competitors are better armed, they will fight less for their marketshare ?

lmfao at people in this thread thinking the deal is bead because there’s no way Ms can remedy the issue of people Needing to buy a console to play could games.

When that’s a main argument against a deal, the deal is happening

The meltdown in Era is really fun to read lol.

If ever you wanted confirmation that REE has a pitiful lack of integrity (so-called socialist/leftish forum thoroughly on the side of capitalism/Big Tech), or that all the Xbox fanboys sheltered there after the Neogaf split, read that fucking acquisition thread.

The admins/mods there are c*nts for letting all that carry on. In fact they foster it. I suppose we knew this when the news came out that the spineless owner sold the site at the first opportunity. Ethics and morality and what you stand for apparently flung out the window for a wad of cash.

Buying a publisher with a market cap of $70 billion is not "evening it out."
