Xbox CoD exculsivity would be subsidized by new people coming into their ecosystem.

MS job is to maximise revenue. This isn't a charity. If they believe consumers will accept a higher price, they will charge a higher price. If they are in a dominant position, their ability to increase prices is stronger. They want to be as dominant as Netflix, who pretty much raises their prices every 2 years lol.

Kotick is desperate and losing it. They should keep him away from the media.

Yeah, a government that doesn't bend over to big corps is a bad government for Kotick.

Kotick is the one who has the most to lose, he would lose the golden parachute that Microsoft had prepared for him and the board of directors could show him the way because of previous scandals and because he dragged the company into a deal that was not feasible blocking strategies for one year and half.

It's no surprise that today Microsoft has been relatively silent (Phil Spencer has basically disappeared) while Activision with Kotick (and Lulu :messenger_tears_of_joy: ) are on the aggressive side.
They fear that Microsoft will drop them in a few weeks stating that the conditions for the acquisition do no exist anymore. Microsoft won't spend 70 billions on a deal mutilated of any form of control over COD, which is what regulators want.

An how would paying for CoD not help them grow they GamePass numbers and allow them to raise the price of GamePass?
They can and they would.
No one can stop 2 companies from making an exclusivity deal.

Your argument is that they don't want to leave any money on the table, yet are doing it with their own titles, why not do it with the biggest console game out there.
Prioritising growing subscribers first. Same old silicon valley tactic. Uber did it by making the service far cheaper than taxis but now they have a hold on the market, they jack up prices.

COD is a must have game. Gets people to subscribe and even leave PlayStation. Do you really think MS is spending $70B to keep Gamepass at the same price it is today? Do you really think MS isn't planning to increase the price of Gamepass in the next 10 years?

Just an observation.
Why do so many Xbox fans have Frieza as their avatar. There's one guy at Resetera who is an Xbox fan with a frieza avatar, there's one here who got banned with a frieza avatar. And then there's you.

Surprised Activision stock isn’t crashing more today

This scenario has largely been priced in already. If the deal fails completely then it goes to ~$65 once all is said and done (according to the options market).

There's very little incentive for anyone to short the stock unless it's 100% certain the deal is toast. The risk/reward is far more favourable to the long side at current prices.

Frustration must be killing her

Twitter's tweet limits are killing me. When did they start enforcing that crap? I didn't even post anywhere near 100 tweets today, let alone 2400!

Fair. They have some big IPs under their belt:
  • Forza
  • Gears of War
  • Halo
  • Fallout
  • Doom
  • Elder Scrolls
  • Sea of Thieves
They have new IPs like Starfield that should be big. They also have some top tier talent:
  • Bethesda
  • ID Software
  • Playground
  • Rare
  • Obsidian
These 5 can put out games with comparable quality to Sony's best studios.

Well, it may take some work for a few of those IP to regain the relevance of Sony's biggest IP today. Halo needs A LOT of work; Gears needs a really good shakeup to not become completely stale.

But the point is, it's possible to do those things. Just need the right people in place, the right funding, and enough time.

Long term brand harm. By making COD exclusive to the less popular console, they risk making COD less popular and could impact future COD releases on PS if something like BF becomes the shooter of choice on PS. That's why exclusivity deals are hard for MS when they're in 3rd place.

We even saw this play out with Rise of the Tomb Raider. That being temporarily exclusive to Xbox One pretty much derailed the trilogy because by the time it came to PS4, Uncharted 4 was already out and seen by many as the superior game. There were more games available to play by that point too, like SFV, Horizon Zero Dawn, more Destiny content, and tons of other games all of which diminished the desire for a late Tomb Raider port to the system to do very well.

And then that pretty much helped ruin a lot of momentum for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Though in both games' cases odd messaging (Rise) and quality (Shadow) contributed a lot to them missing targets.

Hopefully MS will use some of that money to wipe off the tears of Jez Corden.

Nah, let him cry. We get unhinged Windows Central "opinion pieces" out of him over it.

I've seen him posting on ResetERA earlier today. Might be split for time.

Flashback to last year when Jimbo refused the 3 year extension and called it inadequate. Sony have played their hand perfectly throughout.

I just hope Man City have better lawyers than the ones Microsoft have had for this acquisition. If not they are toast, relegation is a possibility.
I hope they get relegated. A lot of teams have missed out on champions league money because of their actions.

If that's to happen I don't want it to happen this season. I still want a fair fight for the title this season and want to win it on merit, not because they got relegated or docked points etc.

Fuck that personally, I will take a title even if it requires Man City to be deducted points but its unlikely to be decided this year I suspect.

Ehh, not a Potter person. I for some reason looked down on it as a LOTR kid.

I am trying to getting through P4G before Atomic Heart though.

I do need to find a routine to play bigger open world games, it's been a while since I have played one of those.
The magic system is great. Think of it like a fantasy game.
I am not fan of Harry Potter, but the game is lit for my liking, since I am viewing it as a game.

Are you arsenal fan?
Does that mean me, you and R reksveks support the same team?
I also want a fair fight too. Hope we can beat our 2 matches against them.

Tomb Raider was the same example I was thinking about. Titanfall 2 to a lesser extent.

Just one single comment : In the end how many top tier first party AAA games MS would had funded with $70 B over time ?
I'm pretty sure you could add every PS AAA first party games budgets (marketing included) from PS1 to PS5 and still be short of 70 B by a wide margin. Think about this.

When the market leader isn’t a huge market leader and where a 2T company is trying to make an acquisition that any other company in the industry couldn’t make in order to grab a monopoly on subs and cloud
Monopoly on what they created and expanded? Sony was the first one with the cloud on consoles, they didn't bother to make expansions like MS did. Then they made a late decision to make a gamepass competitor.

Easy. They already have Zenimax studios, right? They have Ninja Theory, Double Fine, inXile, Obsidian...they have Playground, Rare, 343i (even with the massive restructuring), Compulsion, Mojang...

Just invest in your current studios. Help them with tech & resources, have strong creative leadership. That's literally all they need to do. That, and put some real marketing effort behind the big games. Scale back on the Game Pass stuff (either stagger new releases for later into it, remove all the cheap pricing options/loopholes, introduce new premium tiers etc.). Work with 3P devs to bring back IP that make sense, like the High on Life dev working with Conker (as an example).

That's what Microsoft have always needed; buying giant 3P publishers won't resolve core issues if those are down to lack of creative leadership and bad upper management who don't know how to build on momentum or real audience wants organically. It just means that many more teams MS have to spread out budgets and salaries to, possibly meaning more job cuts and reduced resources per team as the belt tightens.

They can make Xbox a huge deal without needing another publisher. They just need to actually try competing, and buying publishers & IP in itself is not competition.
