Had to come back to this because it is hilarious. Activision Blizzard had no problems whatsoever with helping Sony along the way with their "two-decade dominance in video games". As long as they were riding the PlayStation cash cow, all was good.

Now ABK are riding in for a big payday with Microsoft's money and they found Jesus.

These 2 companies are the big clowns in the game industry atm. Hopefully Sony shows all these new IP's they create with their partners and new studios so that can see which company is the only one that can innovate and create new fresh IP's from the ground up.

Well, this press briefing has confirmed two things for us:
  • One, Microsoft is not looking to divest Activision and COD. They'd rather walk away.
  • Two, the meeting with EC didn't go well at all for Microsoft. Sony is the happier party today.
I can't get where u took sony happier party

That long-running debate as far as how Nintendo relates to Xbox and PlayStation is officially over.

This guy had to go to Munich security council and throw the bone that Xbox getting Activision will help the war in Ukraine and even Sony could not argue against that statement.

Outside of shity jokes he is like a rich kid trying to fit on the hood but does not understand why no one likes him there.

So less choice for those not on Xbox. I have both consoles but not everyone can afford that. This is terrible for people not currently on Xbox.
Cry me a river, Xbox users have been dealing with less choice all of PS4 and now PS5 gen. Still waiting for FF7.
Worked out well with Bethesda *cough Elder Scrolls*
That was never a signed deal, it was never promised, it was never offered. Why are you holding on to it?

Point is just like Minecraft continues to be Multiplat, COD will probably stay that with many Blizz titles. Single player games do well with exclusivity not multiplayer games.

Lol, all of that fake "less choice" allways and only ends with FF. Talking about "cry me a river". Put that against Bethesda and ABK in the future, and look which one is closing IP's behind their rental service.

With Bethesda, games already release on less platforms....

At least there’s some link between FF7 and Sony with the original being made for the PS1.

In 10 years time Xbox will not renew the contracts for Sony, Nintendo or Nvidia. Lo and behold, all activision games are exclusive on gamepass. Good for gamers my ass.

But in 10 years, will those franchises still be of value or would something else be in place for them?

Heres the logical hole in the argument MS seems to have 0 answer for, when touting marketshare stats like this.

MS is arguing that this deal is simply to open up which platforms these games are available on. The core argument they presented today is two-fold: the ATVI purchase is both a) great for consumers because it will enable more users gain access to these games whereever they play, and b) this is great for the laborers and unions within ATVI.

Heres the problem: none of ATVI's output is exclusive to Sony, meaning hey - its not like this deal will facilitate expanded support moreso than these two remaining independent would. CoD isn't PS exclusive, its available anywhere ATVI wants to put it. If CoD or anything else ATVI publishes is not on some storefront or platform, that was ATVI's decision.

So now, MS is saying oh, btw, heres how badly we are being beaten by Sony in the console marketshare space in Europe. Loads of charts and figures pertaining to this. Okay great - now, lets suppose then that MS buys ATVI; if MS is getting 0 exclusivity from this purchase, then why would this deal affect this marketshare split? If MS is truly genuine that this is merely to grow where their titles will be available, how do they intend on having this purchase facilitate them growing their marketshare in that region WITHOUT limiting the places in which this software releases on? MS claims this is Sony trying to enshrine their marketshare position, and yet, by saying so, they are directly saying that this purchase would threaten Sony's marketshare position, and the only real way this merger has at doing so would be if some form of exclusivity for Xbox were to emerge from it.

Exclusivity is obvious for most things besides Call of Duty. Maybe a few other titles. MS is not a Sony charity. They're trying to compete against a dominant player.

Maybe, maybe not. Did you think CoD would still be relevant than 20 years ago? Blizzard is riding the success of its own ips since forever (with good reason).

I thought Xbox 360 was a great console and it became my main gaming platform during its glorydays, but now i just think Xbox is stupid (i still own a series x)

Yet they specifically said today that not only was the future of gaming cross-platform, we have folks saying the Nintendo/MS deals extends beyond ATVI and includes all of Xbox software. MS is claiming that this deal will not affect Sony's marketshare position and that they have no intention on dropping support from PS, and yet are also claiming that there is no other way to compete with Sony in said console space. They can't have both ways - they can't be claiming they want their software to be available everywhere while also claiming they want to compete.

"We haven't agreed a deal with Sony, but I hope we will."
Smith says he has an envelope in his pocket with the deal on paper.

:messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy: That’s not how a deal works you twat. That’s just your terms that you hope Sony accept.
The regulators for the most part seem to be behind Sony on this one. As long as Sony continues opposing the deal, the regulators will most probably never take MS' side.

I'm tired of explaining this to people who can't figure out what they're doing. MS obviously will have exclusives and is also expanding platforms. They're obviously making it sound as good as they can. Anyone thinking MS has no right to any exclusives is delusional.

We need more corporate people to engage in console wars. this is great

If this continues, we won't just have way more info for "console wars", we will also be able to do OT's where we rate whose PR spokespersons create better memes.
We're truly peaking as humanity.
