Sweet Jesus. Could you imagine if Sony announces this week, or even today, the date for their showcase?

I was just thinking, I think the existing Sony-Activision CoD marketing deal ends next year? What I would give to be a fly on the wall behind the closed doors when they have to negotiate the next deal, especially after things like this were said in public

Imagine publicly bragging about how you were screwing Sony and then next year you need to negotiate with them again 🤣

I wonder if Lulu will get fired for sprouting all that rubbish on Twitter these few months. Talk about counting your chickens before they hatch.

Not gonna lie. Didn't expect that after they dropped console concerns.

Brad Smith or whoever got Rishi Sunak in a headlock at Downing Street right now. Fuming.

You can only go on MSFT's cloud gaming service by subbing to game pass, and this deal would lock up their advantage in that space, so they would have the incentive to raise prices on cloud consumers.

Another thing is that they can also enforce that services like Boosteroid etc use Azure to access ABK games, so that's another monopoly they can get going from the infancy of the market.
Generally speaking, you have to subscribe to gamepass to access xcloud, but MS have shown a willingness to offer their xcloud services to FTP games. Fortnite was the first and continues to be the only game at this time that can be accessed on xcloud for free, but we may see more deals like this in the future.

I'm nothing if not a good sport, so I welcome the firing squad. Still not removing my money from Activision stock because there's still too much upside, but I made a bet with thicc_girls_are_teh_best thicc_girls_are_teh_best that I'm fully prepared to honor despite the appeal, unless he wants to wait for the appeal. However, should you decide that you want to collect, I'm ready to honor our game bet regardless of outcome. So just let me know and I'll get it done.

I don't flake on bets/promises, so fully prepared to make good on the game bet we made.

I can’t believe I’m writing this, but you took this one like a champ. Props for honoring your bet.

I maybe not be able to top your rap, but chatgpt got the poem for this event.

In the land of kings and queens,
Where the sun sets and the dawn begins,
There lived a company, mighty and strong,
Whose ambitions were to rule the gaming throng.

Microsoft was its name, a giant in tech,
Whose reach was long and whose power was unchecked,
And there was Activision Blizzard, a gaming behemoth,
Whose popularity and success made them truly impressive.

But fate had different plans, it seemed,
As the UK regulators intervened,
And blocked the acquisition, to the surprise of all,
Stopping Microsoft's plan to have a ball.

The gamers were puzzled, the market was shocked,
As the news spread far and wide, and the stock prices dropped,
But the regulators had their reasons, their logic sound,
To prevent any monopoly, they held their ground.

And so the tale of Microsoft and Activision,
Ended with a twist, a change in direction,
But the world of gaming, it will surely endure,
With new innovations and companies to ensure.

I think everybody is about to find out just how serious Microsoft is about this deal.

I never thought CMA would block, just as I didn't think FTC would block. which now puts what the EU will do up in the air.

However, I do believe Microsoft is more than willing to fight this as long as it takes to get the desired outcome. But it no doubt severely hinders any chance of it closing out by June, unless there's a big surprise from UK's secretary of state who can overrule CMA. Long shot lol.

I love how up and down this thing is. But Jesus let this be the end

This pretty much is. Pursuing an appeal would absolutely push the deal beyond the July deadline. It could very well not even happen until next year. Then they have to hope the CAT agrees with them and forces the CMA to reevaluate. Which history shows the CMA more than likely to come to the same conclusion. At that rate, the deal will be two and a half to three years old. The shareholders are not going to wait that long to be likely told no on spending $70 billion. Which was nothing more than the largest hail mary pass in gaming history to try and turn things around for Xbox instantly.
