I think everybody is about to find out just how serious Microsoft is about this deal.

I never thought CMA would block, just as I didn't think FTC would block. which now puts what the EU will do up in the air.

However, I do believe Microsoft is more than willing to fight this as long as it takes to get the desired outcome. But it no doubt severely hinders any chance of it closing out by June, unless there's a big surprise from UK's secretary of state who can overrule CMA. Long shot lol.
Nope. Deal is dead. Ftc, and now cma.
EU will follow them, and so others.

MS has no leg here.

Ohhh, poor Lulu. She probably didn't see that coming. She desperately needed the thing to go through because it would probably translate to a massive payday and a promotion for her. It's ok for her to be salty though. Nothing a little bit of lemon juice can't fix!!! The fact she vents her frustration on the UK is funny though, the UK isn't the only territory facing economic problems, same can be said for Europe & the USA. But hey, it's easier to to turn ones eyes to only part of the economic problem that has plagued the world since COVID started.

I can’t believe I’m writing this, but you took this one like a champ. Props for honoring your bet.

I'm still disappointed with the decision and think there's hope, ever the optimist, but I always said I would take it in stride even if I disagree. I'll definitely express my disagreement and already am, but the decision is the decision for now unless other factors prevail. And yea, it totally wouldn't be fair to hold that game bet hostage to any appeal process because technically today is the "final deadline" decision, and it was made. So just on a fair is fair basis it seems right to honor it regardless of outcome since our bet's focus was specifically on this very moment here.

I'm nothing if not a good sport, so I welcome the firing squad. Still not removing my money from Activision stock because there's still too much upside, but I made a bet with @thicc_girls_are_teh_best that I'm fully prepared to honor despite the appeal, unless he wants to wait for the appeal. However, should you decide that you want to collect, I'm ready to honor our game bet regardless of outcome. So just let me know and I'll get it done.

I don't flake on bets/promises, so fully prepared to make good on the game bet we made.

Good to see this, stay strong Sage, this is just banter.

100% it isn't. Microsoft isn't dropping this thing fellas. I don't know how else to say that, but get ready for some really creative "solutions." The only way this deal is stopped is if Activision Blizzard decides they want out.
At some point I think Activision says pay us the buyout fee and moves on. They can’t hamstring their business interests forever hoping to win the lottery.

This does make a lot of sense. It will come down to how willing is the Activision Board and decision makers to hold out for the bigger pot of gold over carrying forward as planned. I guess we'll find out just how intoxicating the possibility of all that money they would get if the deal is approved truly is.

At what point do we see Activision start speaking differently about Sony, their largest business partner?

lulu definitely gets fired within the next 12 months

I can see why MS themselves are pissed, I can understand why ABK employees (and shareholders) are pissed. But honestly I can't see why any reasonable gamer would be particularly upset? Whatever platforms you have, this decision (if upheld) will mean you still have the same access to ABK games that you did previously.
Yeah, I don't get it either. I would've liked the games on Game Pass, sure, but it's not like I can't just buy them.

SenjutsuSage SenjutsuSage said it correctly. It’s all about how long they are intoxicated by possibilities. I personally think they start protecting their business interests as soon as the deal allows them to demand payment. But I could be wrong. No doubt.

It's game over.
CMA blockage will help EU case, and make their decisions easier for them.

CMA were the last hope for this deal. Now it won't see the day light

Wasn't the EU demanding MS provide a download option for their cloud games? Starting to look like focusing on the Cloud was a way for the regulators to turn the screws.

Yes.
MS was too stupid to provide those 10 year deals and forgot to focus more on the advantages of their cloud gaming.

CMA played their game and caught them by a surprise.

Cant say this was unexpected....... im going assume this deal is dead now.......So whats MS next move? thats what im more intersted in now..... I dont think they will stop aquiring studios, but what does this mean for the big pubs....should market conditions ever determine they need to be sold, they cant sell themselves because they will be too big, and have to spin themselves off into smaller entities to do so?

I tell you what though....I was really looking forward to COD on GP. guess ill still be buying those yearly $100 editions with battles passes.

And what will the working relationship between sony and ABK be like after all the bad blood?

I certainly got a big up seeing one of the worlds largest corporations get BTFO’d. Might have to change pants. Might just go pantsless. Twitter has been beautiful today.

I've been naked since last night waiting for this. Get on my level.

As was pointed out, it's very ironic that the thing so many people were saying was Microsoft's goal, the domination of a cloud market, is the very thing the CMA saw and said, "NOPE!"

I'm really laughing at how smug Brad Smith was with his "having the 10 year contract deal in his pocket and waving it around, waiting for Sony to sign it".

I don't like how smug and arrogant the entire MS team have been conducting themselves.

And then putting up full page ads in the papers saying that COD will be played by 150 million people. Fucking arrogant pricks.

MS needs to worry about EU.
They lost both ft and now cma. Their last hope is eu.
even if EU approved the FTC and CMA do not. I dont know what other card MS can play, but I think they are better of just paying off the 3Bn, and spending the rest on other smaller aquisitions. Maybe go after T2......or buy rockstar form T2 for a silly amount of money. and still buy other studios. They have options that to be honest...are far tastier than ABK even if they dont own the biggest grossing FPS in the world.

Time to make Halo great again.
