The Sony BEEP

You know that loud BEEP that your Sony console makes when you first turn it on? Isn't it about time they made that optional?

It started with the PlayStation 3 and they've had it ever since. You can tell that the system is turning on so I don't see why it's necessary.

What do you think GAF - would they ever get rid of this? Why did they add it in the first place? Do you even care?
Oh man. My wife can hear that beep anywhere in the house. It's like her ear is tuned to that damn frequency/pitch. Yea, I'd like to disable it or at least customize it like it and the startup sound

I love the comments of wives devolving into madness from a beep haha. It's the new Pavlovian reaction.
Right now..... wife asleep, turned on PS5, withing a few seconds......"we got things to do today, just so you know!" Shit never fails

Or she will punish you by saying the beep gave her a headache.

Yeah the kiddo approach you after hearing that sound, and you need to switch to Pow Patrol game instead.

It's there to let you know all systems are okay.
2 beeps is a force shutdown
3 beeps means there is connection or internal problem.
Continuous beeps with gaps means the fan is running at at full power to cool the system down ( check your vents they may be blocked )
In short, it's there for a reason.

Listening to it right now. Previously, the power unit failing on PS3 caused it to beep intermittently and shutdown before being replaced. Feels good.

Options are nice. They should make it optional if they can.

But I love that beep sound. It's nostalgic and just makes me happy because after that beep, it's party time! So even if they did make it optional, I'd still keep it on.

I don't mind the beep, it helps a lot when console malfunctions. What I would like them to do is to give you the choice to change the sound, for example assign 5 sounds for that and let you choose via settings which sound would you like to use.

I rather like the beep in the same way that I like system startup sounds. I do agree with those saying it's like a giant red flag to anyone in the house to come bother you or otherwise decide this is the appropriate time to start some task that otherwise would have been let sit.

At least the ps triple has an on off switch. If you find the PS4 switch let me know or was that eject

It's for diagnostics, akin to the bios beep of old in PC's.

Don't ask me why they've done it that way instead of a small led light or something.
They have RGB lights too for diagnostics but they've kept that beep as well for some reason.

Do people actually turn off their ps5s? I thought you all keep it on 24/7

People do need to turn it off though. The power grid can't support all the whining and griefing the man babies do on call of duty every day.

It's perfectly FINE, stop complaining about anything people.

You probably need a option to turn your pee sound off too.

It will from now on. It's one of those things you never notice until someone else notices it for you. From now on, you won't be able to unhear the beep of doom.

Seriously though, the beep is a bit loud if you have small kids that are asleep. Aside from that I don't find it really disturbing to be honest, but it is pretty loud and probably louder than it has to be which would be 0 sound.
I kinda want it as a ringtone now.

Personally I love it when she's not the least bit bothered by what I am or not doing so I go upstairs, turn it on, and here she comes.
Lol this is spot on. I love my wife but there are certain sounds that apparently wake her up from her thoughts and then she start finding all these things I need to help her with that she was just fine with not being done seconds ago. PS beep is one of those.

The sound of sitting down on the sofa with a sigh of pleasure is similar. Travel through all materials and walls, apparently.

It is Sony engineering. The PS1 rendered a 3D Playstation logo to test out the 3D graphics.
Yes. That logo on boot up is an actual 3D object.
The particle effect on the PS5 boot up probably tests it's 3D graphics.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have no shrill alarm sounds when all systems are fine, and save it only for the errors?

People that think this isn't a real problem: no way you own a ps5 and share a house with anyone. It's loud as fuck and has no reason at all to be mandatory.

To the folks peddling "kids these days" and "must be nice" takes, what are you even on about? It's incredibly poor design that your game console signals the entire house every time you turn it on without so much as a volume control.

I like the XBOX One X bootup. It shows the CPU and makes an explosion sound.

It cracks me up.
