I meant they might be giving up some of their cloud rights in general not just ABK

Microsoft Corp. and Activision Blizzard Inc. are considering giving up some control of their cloud-gaming business in the UK as a way to appease regulators so they can complete their $69 billion merger by the July 18 deadline, according to people familiar with the matter.

That could involve selling off the cloud-based market rights for games in the UK to a telecommunications, gaming or internet-based computing company, said the people, who asked not to be named discussing confidential planning. A private equity company might also be interested, said one person.

thank god the CMA is looking out for consumers. consumers in the UK should have the right to pay an additional subscription lol

So in ten years the only place to play CoD on a PlayStation will be if you live in the UK and stream it through the cloud?
 
Does it make any sense to not have ABK games on XCloud in the UK? Besides being anti-consumer it is pretty dumb to be honest. The sensible solution to appease CMA is to come up with a free licensing model where you buy the license to play the game and then choose which service you use to streaming it from.

When Disney was buying Fox they had to divest the Fox Sports channels (because they owned ESPN). The channels still exist exactly as they were before, they're just called Bally Sports now. So this would just be the same games with a different steaming wrapper.

Basically it means: "Hey guys, we'll give up the dumbest part of the deal, the niche of a niche market, so we can obtain "King"."

No one cares about cloud gaming. It's been a thing for 20 years and government acts like it's a concern. It's growth in a pie chart looks massive because it went from 5 people to 25 in 15 years.

This is beyond your favorite company, this is worldwide gaming issues.
Its mainly due to people having disposable income, which they spend it like its 1$. Companies are abusing that.
I witnessed this from mobile gaming and now console/pc gamers are experiencing this hell.
Just wait until $100 becomes your normal spending.

We have Tom Warren on Twitter saying MS and CMA have a deal, and are waiting for the time to announce. In FTC land, Corley denied the motion to stay the merger pending the FTC's appeal, opening the gate for Microsoft to close the deal without waiting for the FTC (given the FTC is likely to lose their appeal).

Why does the CMA have to wait to announce their deal? I think maybe they are still working on a deal and they will work it out over the weekend. The deal closes on Monday. I can't imagine MS not being able to work something out with the CMA if they are this close. The fact that the CMA decided to listen again makes me think MS was coming to them with a real solution instead of the 10-year deals they were handing out like candy on Halloween.

It added that any revised agreement may face a full, new investigation by the CMA.

A spokesman said: "Whilst merging parties don't have the opportunity to put forward new remedies once the final report has been issued, they can choose to restructure the deal, which can lead to a new merger investigation.

"Microsoft and Activision have indicated that they are considering how the transaction might be modified, and the CMA is prepared to engage with them on this basis."

The CMA said discussions with Microsoft remained at an "early stage".

A spokesman said the competition watchdog had not changed its original position on the deal, saying: "The CMA decision set out in its final report still stands."

And how would the 9th have anything to share right now? They got the appeal last night.

This is denying the FTC the motion to delay the deal yet again.

It was posted almost 2 hours ago when it was just announced. People are waiting for the other news when it comes to the FTC's appeal.

It is old news for me anyway.

On timing I think you're right. But it's federal, involving federal agency, in California. I have no idea if they work this late. Probably not but damn right I want to read news when it comes out if it is tonight.
