Hey Zune was a dope system. I perosnally think they should have won the MP3 player war.

Are you sure you've given this even a single second of thought? I'm thinking no.

Look at both of those example from a business perspective:

1). You spend $100m on an exclusivity agreement that your 30% of projected game sales (of the title in question) can't cover the cost of resulting in a loss of money.

2). You spend $70b buying a publisher with one of the highest rates of return in the industry while simultaneously strengthening your existing gaming operation.

I don't know, I think the second one is easier to sell to the board of a company where gaming isn't the primary focus.

See this right here in bold, is the problem!

Hey Zune was a dope system. I perosnally think they should have won the MP3 player war.
The software was so good too, way better then itunes. Probably one of the best looking software MS released. The Zune also had a better Shuffle then the IPod touch, its just when the app store came out, ipod touch became more then just a music player.

It's sad and frustrating thinking of how many time MS dropped the bag, and yet no better from it.

Looks bulky af. Was the Zune and Ipod at the time that thick?

That product is from 2003. It was a popular audiophile choice because of how it sounded, ability to support tons of file formats and bitrates, had amazing battery life and was incredibly easy to manage (drag and drop as it showed up as a hard drive when connected to your PC).

And Sony has been gobbling up exclusives and marketing deals like crazy including 10 years worth of activision partnerships. MS said fuck it and will just buy them out so Sony (who already have another two years left of Cod deals) doesnt do another 10 years worth,

You could see Sony was already going after Bethesda with death loop too. Same thing.

MS protected themselves by buying two studios with very western style games which is what most xbox gamers are.

Studios? You mean publishers right?

I also had a Lumia for a bit back in the day. Have this old picture saved in my gallery. The tile interface looked great on a phone screen, but it sucked when they tried to roll it into desktops.

Nokia Lumia 920 was an amazing piece of hardware.

-First phone that included a camera with an optical image stabilizer, everyone was using a software based solution, including iPhone and Galaxy.

-Supported Qi Wireless which is today's standard. (Back in 2012).

-Supported NFC even before Samsung.

-Live Photos were a thing before Apple copied it, in fact you could use Smartshoot and change individual faces, not just the whole frame.

-Cinemagraph allowed you to create animated gif photos that you can customize which part to animate, so a Live Photo with a dog jumping, you can make the entire frame still and just animate your dog for instance, made for some pretty amazing gifs.

-Pentaband phone, worked around the globe.

Other cool features included a curved edge glass, a screen that worked while you wore gloves without having to buy special conducting types and the display supported 600nits which was way ahead of other devices at the time and worked in conjunction with the OS so that the tile colors would change hues to make it easier to see even under direct sunlight.

This was 2012!! Had Nokia gone with Android, they would've been miles ahead of the competition.

the 10 year of partnership that Microsoft chose not to bid on 10 years ago…

seriously wtf is with you pushing this narrative Microsoft trying to gobble up the industry is Sony's fault

edit: also if you go by studio count instead of publisher count it's a LOT more than 2, in the past 5 years isn't Microsoft's total closer to 30+ studios they've bought up? (counting ABK)

ah ya publisher. The same publisher Sony had marketing deals also for Diablo games.

So hey, don't blame MS for buying. Anyone can buy. Just got to pay the price, just like to get a marketing deal you got to too.

Sony wasn't "gobbling up exclusives." Those deals are shopped out by the publishers. Example: It was revealed during all of this that Pete Hines himself suggested Starfield (and other bethesda titles) be shopped out for timed exclusivity deals. Sony got the jump on it.

Pretty sure I still have my Lumia 920 hanging around somewhere….

I actually booted it up about 3-4 years ago to see if it still worked…

And the best built in navigating app too. Far superior to what Android or Apple was offering at the time.

But MS is open to deals too. Sony agreed to a 10 year cod deal with MS. So MS can be convinced too. They were the ones who even offered it.

It was also revealed companies went to Xbox first for stuff like exclusive Marvel games and Phil decided investing in games wasn't their strategy lol

They offered it so they could have an easier time swaying the regulators.

Go watch some E3s and come back when you see the words flashing Xbox exclusive and Xbox First over and over again. Stop trying to force everyone else to eat the soy-lent greens you eat.

And because MS and activision are combining, Cod has 10 year deals on switch and PS (which can always be extended too), MS will focus on cloud (which nobody seems to care about except MS and Nvidia), and the series will still be in Xbox and PC.

So what's the problem? How is this worse than before for Cod?

Ok, if you can prove in the year 2034, MS cuts the cord and funnels all Cod to Xbox and PC only as a 10 year Trojan horse strategy then ya you can be mad and be correct MS is abusing and hoarding cod.

Maybe exclusivity deals have to be paid from Xbox division own money while for acquisitions they can convince daddy MS to help them. Would explain their reluctance for these kind of deals nowadays.

You're making stupid comments about how "MS is putting a stop to this". You guys change that narrative a lot. Go back to the first 100 pages and see your brands excuses go from "This is about King" until the CMA said "then drop COD" to now this is about stopping Don't from making deals.

Has it ever occured to you that studios just don't like working with MS? I see indies release one everything but Xbox all the time. Is that because of the Sony conspiracy?

And you keep ignoring how MS has and still does the same deals. In fact, they keep buying studios and publishers instead of doing what Nintendo and Sony does and invest in their own studios with good teams. So how is your company not scummy when they do it all the time but Sony is?

What I was getting at was that the ABK deal can be looked at as a freestanding business purchase that already has a consistent profit of more than $1b per year. It would be a safe bet even if they had no other gaming interests. The fact that they do have a sizable gaming business and are investing heavily in GP just adds additional value.

Really?

I'm too lazy to search, but you seem to know what happened the first 100 pages. Where did I say anything King and COD in relation to to the CMA?
