The Sony BEEP

You must be a parent

I'm a Cat Parent and after a while, they hear the beep and know I'm up, they will get feed etc lol

I do think the beep should be optional btw. (i'd still keep the beep, but I want like a Bill Cosby beep option)

Wouldn't it make more sense to have no shrill alarm sounds when all systems are fine, and save it only for the errors?

People that think this isn't a real problem: no way you own a ps5 and share a house with anyone. It's loud as fuck and has no reason at all to be mandatory.

To the folks peddling "kids these days" and "must be nice" takes, what are you even on about? It's incredibly poor design that your game console signals the entire house every time you turn it on without so much as a volume control.
It's like Homer's 'everything's ok alarm'

This thread is so funny with the amount of wife/kid stuff. It is true though.

Can sit there doing nothing in particular, water a few plants, have snacks, just read some stuff quietly and then decide to grind a bit and next thing...

The worst thing is she will be doing her own thing too. Sometimes it only goes as far as picking up the controller:

Do you wanna watch that 3hr film I've been blowing off for the last three weeks cos its too long?
We should go somewhere today.
We should really redecorate.
Let's spring clean. Here are your jobs.
Do you want to come to my mums and do these jobs for her?
Let's clean the oven!!!!!

I'm like 'Bitch, get a hobby'.

Buy a Project Q. Lock yourself in the shitter room. Turn it on to play. Wife hears the beep and looks for you around the house. Get a solid 30mins in before she figures out where you are. When you come out just be prepared with the answer "I don't know honey, must be acting up".

But seriously, they should add an option to disable the beep after a certain time so that you don't wake anyone. They can do it because they have a bios clock.

It's for diagnostics, akin to the bios beep of old in PC's.

Don't ask me why they've done it that way instead of a small led light or something.
old and new ones, you still have the front panel with the speaker pin. you just need a speaker to have that beep back xD

The PS3 does that annoying thing were it boots up to make updates at 3am.
You can change the time it boots in settings, or simply turn the feature off completely. You had it set to boot in the middle of the night all these years?

Edit: Thankfully it doesn't beep at least. Now I have a slim ps3 that barely makes a sound but I set my old phat ps3 to boot in the middle of the day because the fan on that model makes more noise.

You'd go insane with a Xbox Series controller, each press on the d-pad is louder than that beep lol
That click sound does leave an impression. My fiancee will leave the living room if I'm playing on the Series. They need to find a way to dampen that.

Finally glad to be able to turn off the beep soon on the PS5. Not too annoying but something I've wanted to do forever
