PS5/PC like i have been, there is no need to buy an xbox - BC can be fulfilled on PC too.
Sony pricing a console too much puts them in the cross hairs of PC console killer builds. The way console prices rise if MS leaves the market is if MS actually goes through with their plan to let other manufacturers sell Xbox branded consoles. Those companies will need to make a profit on the consoles being sold similar to the 3DO days. It will not be Sony causing the console price increase but I do fear they will follow if other consoles are sold at a higher price.
Ummmm. What alternatives? If MS leaves the console space there is no competition for PS (not that is much of a competition even with MS there). If literally one of the biggest companies in the world entered, competed and lost, who has the capital to do it. Google? (Stadia failed), Apple? The ABK discourse highlighted that the high end console market only had two players. PS3's price point drove me away that generation and only came back for PS4/5. WTF does PS6 look like? The price that they deem to be the sweet spot for their proposition.
You need to understand these companies are not stupid. Monopolies and excessive pricing can only exist in instances where incumbents make it impossible for new entrants to enter the market. That isn't the case in the console industry, and it isn't the case in the discrete GPU market.
The reason that's an important point is this - if a company abuses their market position and puts prices up too much then they are putting themselves in a vulnerable position whereby it becomes easier for new (or existing) businesses to enter the market and steal market share. Excessive pricing makes consumers more receptive to alternatives, not the opposite.
So in summary, if they want to continue to do well in the long run, excessively whacking prices up isn't the way to do it.
Like layoffs!Sony pricing a console too much puts them in the cross hairs of PC console killer builds.
There are different ways to ensure you have a stronger profit margin without just price increasing it to hell.
Was more thinking along the lines of reduced leaps between gens, multiple SKUs for various price ranges etc etc.Like layoffs!
(Just for clarity I am not endorsing layoffs; just highlighting that it is textbook corporate playbook for when they want to increase profit margins). Was more thinking along the lines of reduced leaps between gens, multiple SKUs for various price ranges etc etc.
Layoffs are possible in this climate, but I think Sony isn't in as much of a need as others.
Scope creep has become a problem for gaming devs in the west particularly.Yeesh I hope not with reduced leaps between generations. (Just for clarity I am not endorsing layoffs; just highlighting that it is textbook corporate playbook for when they want to increase profit margins). There already is hardly any benefit beyond load times with this console generation. Graphics are better, but we have reached diminishing returns in the console space. Also how many generations are truly left before consoles are obsolete. They have been at console market saturation for a long time and the younger generations interests are dominated by PC/mobile/switch.
If a game is considered to be end of line after under 6 months on the market... and that is normal for Xbox, then we can chalk that up as a new problem they have. This is all quite the trick. MS knows their current titles have gotten to the end of the line so why not make more sales? They release these old exclusives and hook some Sony ponys then bam, Elder scrolls comes out as an Xbox exclusive and Sony ponys get mad and have to buy an Xbox
Blame the Todd father. If a game is considered to be end of line after under 6 months on the market... and that is normal for Xbox, then we can chalk that up as a new problem they have.
Thanks for volunteering to beta test for the rest of us.I've been an Xbox guy since the 360 days, mainly because I prefer their games (Halo, Gears etc).
If they start releasing all of their games on PS, I will have no qualms about buying that console. I have absolutely no allegiance to hardware other than it needs to play the games I want.
If all these rumours are true, then the only way Xbox can survive as hardware is to ensure that their games will always release first their own console. 3 months, 6 months, 12 months? I'm pretty sure 3 months as exclusive would be enough to keep me, the cheap whore that I am.
That's a fairly optimistic way of looking at things.Blame the Todd father.
I'm expecting a wave of Xbox games to come into the PlayStation ecosystem and then Microsoft to have timed exclusives from now on dropping on Xbox then to PS later. Similar to how PlayStation does PC. It'll give people a reason to continue playing on Xbox and perhaps entice sales if someone wants to play months in advance after tasting what Xbox has to offer.
Well it makes sense from a marketing perspective. You get your extra sales while also keeping your initial sales from your fan base because they might want to play it day one. Now it will depend on if MS can release a game that is worthy of a day one purchase, and that's been their problem for a few years now which is how we got into this mess. That's a fairly optimistic way of looking at things.
Hope that works out for them.
Walked past cex earlier and Series Xs are selling for £330 already, probs £180 cash if you hand one in.More casual gamers will jump to PS5.
Also, this: if anybody is on the fence about buying/selling anything, the market and pricing are likely to be changed very soon for everything: Xbox, PS5, PC components. Better hurry up.

Having never played any Halo game, I bought the MCC on Steam sometime ago. Couldn't play for more than 30-40 minutes. If there is one game I would like it would be Master Chief Collection. It's not a personal must for me but I just want to see what the fuzz is all about.
Yeah, you have a point. Could be outdated and not up to the current standards.Having never played any Halo game, I bought the MCC on Steam sometime ago. Couldn't play for more than 30-40 minutes.
Maybe the game is just old at this point. I found it really difficult to keep going. I'll probably give it another go sometime in the future, but I'll keep my expectations in check if I were you.

Isn't most Japanese games coming to Steam also, or do you mean native Japanese editions (PSN JPN) with all text & UI in Japanese?Japanese games on PS5 and Western games on PC. Just like I have been doing since forever, never really saw the point in owning an Xbox since the 360.
