I think it's pure bs, lots of haters wishful thinking and fake rumors, Phil will just announce something GP related and that's it we're gonna have a next-gen Xbox.

I think that Xbox is dead. But Microsoft Gaming is not. And maybe will one day come back like Atari had a retro console not long ago. So I voted yes, but you may consider my vote a TeamBS if you want.

Going down? No, not at all. Too much money on the table. Shift in strategy though away from complete exclusives and into a timed exclusive mentality? Absolutly.

The problem here is Microsoft is entering a very bad period for Xbox branded hardware. Going multiplatform, even if just for certain titles via timed exclusives, is going to absolutely destroy the Xbox hardware division longterm, as why would most people buy an xbox console over a Playstation if all the big games will be coming to PS eventually.

Do I think there will be another Xbox generation? Yes. Do I think Xbox is in the worse shape its ever been in though? Yes, and I think its going to get worse, and this whole multiplatfom thing is MS seeing the potential end and hedging its bets. There is still a chance things turn around, but the leadership of MS is making sure they are ready for if doesnt.

Long term I think MS wants to be a software/cloud provider who has 3rd parties make hardware (streaming devices) for a full cloud driven ecosystem. I think they want out of the dedicated hardware business but can't pull out fast without destroying the whole gaming brand and losing major mindshare. So its going to be slow, and this is the first big inflection point. I think they've known this for awhile and its why Gamepass even exist, and why they wanted Activision, they needed big players under their umbrella to force the games into their vision, otherwise all these devs would just jump to be primary Sony 3rd party partners.

I think there will be one more xbox generation though as I think they want to set a hardware baseline for future titles with one last dedicated device. After that I image it slowly walks away from hardware, you'll see more and more ads/marketing about MS games/services and less and less about dedicated hardware, to the point where the service of GamePass will be what is talked about when talking about MS Games. We're already seeing that in some regards. Passed that I have no idea what could happen, I've been a big advocate that the whole industry needs to be shaken to its core and the AAA market reset. I think that may be happening right now in realtime, but not because of MS's moves, rather just the cost of AAA games has gotten so crazy high its reaching a destructive point for all participants (though we are seeing that in lots of industries, not just games, the world is very out of balance right now.)

Mate im a strong Xbox warrior, i get erect for that shit, but I know its over my PS5 will be the transistion then PS6 will be my full on Halo machine.

I personally believe that no matter how much it morphs, crashes and burns Xbox will always be there to stay. Like some sort of zombie. They will not leave the hardware business nor will they exit gaming in general. I just don't see it. Worst comes to worst, they'll be a third-party publisher. But they have so much money that they can just try again and again. Xbox is an established, known brand. Imo, even with all the baggage it comes with, it's sort of...an enviable position? It's genuinely hard to break into this industry and I don't think MS will want to just toss that away. The business update will be just that, a business update. They'll tell people that they'll do multiplatform, that they'll do hardware still, and then introduce SOME hook. Even if they put Activision and Bethesda games on PS5, they can still tell people that only Xbox players can play Fable day 1 on game pass. Xbox is here to stay.

Now whether they can become a respectable force again like in the 360 days or continue their clown parade is another matter. I'm going with the latter.

Well it has to be bigger than denying it outright or something minor that could be put in a tweet.
I'm wondering if they'll be clear for once, or let Phil do his weaselly double speak.

I look forward to the extensive breakdown of how some layoffs led to rumors about game exclusivity, turned to leakers leaking info with no evidence, to "influencers" going nuts and making extensive abandonment posts, to now everything is on fire.
Xbox will be fine even if a re-structure is announced and a game or two (maybe franchise) but mostly probably Gaas goes multiplat

Just going to make a wild guess:

- "select" titles will go to Playstation and Nintendo
(MS practically going 3rd party)

- Xbox will be discontinued

- gaming divisions will be rebranded to MS Games, big franchises will continue to exist, more focus on mobile

- Series will be discontinued

- Maybe a Ouya-like console

Edit:

- Microsoft Game Pass

I'm team BS in the sense that it is all being completely overblown.

With that said, they will likely announce some kind of change that they feel might put people off a bit. Although even that isn't certain, but it just seems like they are preparing to deal with that kind of situation.

I think it will be a bit of both. Some of the games from Microsoft will eventually make it to PlayStation after a short exclusive period, but this will not kill the Xbox brand. Xbox will still exist in some form even after streaming takes over the industry. It's very similar to the PlayStation exclusive titles moving to PC; It's not going to kill the brand, it's just helping them pay for the games which cost them a fortune to make.

At this rate, assuming they hold the "business meeting" next Wednesday (just choosing the middle), we should have at least 24 more threads by my estimation, maybe 26 depending on what time they hold it on Wednesday (again, assuming).

I agree. When has a rumour or leak ever been true?
All these rumours coming from multiple sources are just people being mean.
Seriously, someone in a MS studio uses a ps5 devkit as a paperweight and all hell breaks loose.

The leaker from here was talking about this on Dec 13th, and all of what he said has now sort of come to pass so... it's legit.

Xbox as we know it will be changing but they ain't going down. I think they're done trying to directly compete with Sony and will instead use the PS brand to make money. That means releasing their games on PS5. We just don't know the details of that. Will it be every game? Will there be some that stay exclusive to xbox permanently or only for a certain time? We'll find out soon.

One thing I think we can all agree on, BS or not, is MS has a huge PR issues on their hands and its going to 100% affect Xbox hardware sales, which already were tanking. Tons of little kids running around out there telling other kids "don't buy an Xbox, they are going under".

They would've said something if the rumours weren't true. So yes.

I don't think they're pulling out directly but I think the consequence will be the death of the Xbox as a traditional console, likely over 2 years or so. Gamepass will fall with it.
Then I think they're going with a digital focused future after that, on PC and Windows handhelds and Playstation and Nintendo hardware when possible.

I think it's BS.

I think it'll 2-3 games ported to Nintendo/Sony platforms. That's it. Nothing more. No Gears, Halo, or Forza will be on Playstation lamo.

As has been said elsewhere, I think the pisspoor PR is coming from a lack of unity from within Xbox and Microsoft on the direction they should take. What is going to be telling next week is how the new vision will be conveyed to the public and who will be the one presenting that vision. Folks shouldn't assume it is going to be coming from Phil Spencer, imo.

Hot take prediction:

Phil Spencer announces his retirement

Sarah Bond takes over

Nutella still trying to figure out what Aaron Greenberg does around there

They will cut down to one hardware sku which will be the Series X, and then a single future console eventually, full third party integration starting with Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, Starfield and Indiana Jones.

Bro, contain yourself. We'll see more about it in a week. Then we can try sorting the truth from the lies.

It's not going anywhere, but selling boxes just won't be their priority anymore.

Some of their hardcore fans will have to adapt to that!
