Quoting myself from the other thread because it's relevant here.
Forget the rumors, let look at the FACTS of what we know.

- The trailer for Blade (which is their farthest out game announcement, most likely 2026) doesn't even mention Xbox, Microsoft or GamePass at all.

That is not normal.

The only place an Xbox logo even appears, is their template for videos they post on YT, etc.

- This leak... which over half of it has been confirmed, this was posted before the last Xbox Event.

- There is a job listing for the next Halo to be developed for ALL platforms

- Multiple Microsoft execs have mentioned wanting their software on every platform. I'm not going to post them all, but it's been said numerous times.

- Xbox has not put any ABK games on GamePass to this day, but put 20+ Bethesda Games on GamePass a few days after acquiring them.

ABK Gamepass

Bethesda GamePass

- Hifi Rush was data mined and is showing PS5/Nintendo content.

- Rumors start flooding out of basically every Xbox game (except Redfall, lol) is coming to PS5. Xbox doesn't even deny or address any of them and then schedules a "business update event" that we don't even have a date for when its taking place.

I don't know what's going to happen....but dont be surprised if it's very extreme. All the facts are pointing in that direction.

Either that or they believe they can leak it and get away with it. But yeah, they have to know that if they are revealed then their job is gone.

The bottom line is that its a policy/vision battle, not a physical battle, so even if the people who demanded the changes did not prevail, they probably wouldn't be going anywhere. Their criticisms and opposition would remain to challenge the status quo.

My take is that its probably past the tipping point at this stage, and they are scrambling for the best way to handle making the changes public.

I think they will start selling there games on other consoles to mitigate the loss they are taking from people not buying there games and just playing them on gamepass. They will keep there gamepass subscription service as a "free" way to play there exclusives.. and maybe the gamepass cloud service will come to the switch..

It'll be somewhere in the middle. It seems clear enough that they will announce that some big exclusives are coming to the PS (beyond just SoT and Hi Fi Rush). How many and what the period of exclusivity will be, who knows.

Given the reported division in Xbox headquarters about this move, I imagine they will be dealing with some morale problems.

Even if it was going down, why would they announce it? To maximize how much money they lose? It makes no sense.

Why not just let their current consoles keep selling.

the more I think about it, the more I believe next week will be the beginning of the end for Xbox hardware.

Yeah I don't see any way they don't go full third party after stewing on it some more. Once you start putting Activision and Bethesda on third party (and I think Bethesda management pressured MS, especially due to layoffs), it makes no sense to not put everything else on there. Activision and Bethesda dwarf everything else Microsoft has.

Again, the timing of the layoffs is not a coincidence. It is simply not fair to layoff employees due to poor game performance in the market when they are forced to be exclusive. And the Activision deal is far too big to make exclusive.

Going down like Zune? No.

But if games don't make their return on investment, I expect them going to other consoles.

I can see older titles as well. It spent make sense to me to have Killer Instinct come back as f2p and be locked on Xbox. It is Already in GamePass. Get it on everything.

Phil is out. "It's been an honor to blah blah blah…"

Sarah is in. "I'm so excited to share our plans..:I get chills thinking about all the new players we will delight with…"

Select multi-platform titles announced "following in the footsteps of the greatest game of all time…Minecraft…we will bring select Xbox titles to even more players very soon".

Strategic partnerships to "help land the best games on EVERY platform" (3rd party consoles).

I think what they should do is timed exclusivity. They should put their new games out only on Xbox for 3-6 months followed by a release for all other consoles

I certainly hope Xbox is done. The brand sucks, their games suck, both series consoles suck. They had a winning plan but in the end the plan sucked. The new strategy most likely will be pure lies and end up sucking.

Once they throw in the hardware towel and get those ports going Sony is bound to reciprocate for those of us stuck with a Series X at least right?? I mean the war would be over and wouldnt they want a few more sales from us Xbros right?? Right?

I remember when people said the same about Sony during the ps3 era. 🤣

Microsoft has put things like zune, windows phones, Kinect, Xbox live etc. in the rear view mirror.

You make a valid point. I would add almost everything Microsoft acquires or radically alters has historically turned to crap. There are a few exceptions, Minecraft, And LinkedIn come to mind. But that is it.

I don't think the brand is done. I think the way we think about Xbox consoles is changing though.

I could see a TV box, Surface, MS Laptops all given an Xbox sticker like the "Intel Inside" showing this machine is optimized for Xbox gaming.

I do think MS is exploring moving to ARM for Xbox and PC and it would render most things no longer compatible, which would include legacy software and STEAM

I'm not surprised to see people who have been in denial about Xbox troubles for years think this might be some small update.

Now it's possible that things were blown out of proportion, but many signs are pointing to a shift in a new direction at Microsoft.

They spent nearly 80 billion dollars on two major publishers and their hardware is on the decline the Game Pass subscribers have remained stagnant. They didn't spend this month to remain where they are in the gaming market, they want to do better. We're seeing subscription services fail and make dramatic changes just to stay afloat, but people think Microsoft is fine with 25 million subscribers with many triple-A titles being released within the next several years.

People said, "Microsoft doesn't care about console sales. They want you to play their games on any device possible."

Then where is the growth coming from?

- Cloud gaming is not going to see any significant growth any time soon.
- Game Pass growth has been hovering around 25m for years.
- Xbox Series sales are performing worse than Xbox One.

The fastest and quickest way to grow is to put their games on other platforms. They admitted to losing the console war and there are over 200 million users on PlayStation and Nintendo. They tried this generation with a low-end and high-end console approach to make an impact, but nothing has changed. They can hope to gain 50+ million subscribers over the next several years, they can hope to perform better next generation, and they can hope the cloud takes off soon... but wasting years on hope may not be worth it.

I accidentally voted Team BS but I actually believe some shit is going down next week. Some big changes are definitely going to happen. There's too much smoke now for nothing to be happening next week and also Phil and Co. haven't debunked any of the rumors yet when they easily could have done this a while ago.

Lies of Phil right now is for Xbox fans the equivalent of Denzel Washington's character in Flight. They probably expect him to pilot a broken plane upside down and save it from a crash. The thing is, contrary to Denzel's character, he just doesn't have the skill.

When Microsoft acquired Activision (check my posting history if you don't believe me) I told everyone that this was the play for the future. That Microsoft saw the Post-Console future and knew it was going to come down to a IP arms race. All they had to do was take one look at the current state of derivative franchise churning Hollywood to see the game plan.

The transition from DVD to Streaming not only killed Blockbuster. But it also turned 'player' hardware into a commodity. I'm old enough to remember Panasonic / Sony and a host of other companies fighting to advertise their multi hundred dollar DVD and BluRay Players being bought by the millions. Now, you can buy streaming dongles for less than $30 and the average person will never get enough value out of a NVdia Shield Pro.

It wasn't GenX'ers and Boomers who made streaming happen (hello Blockbuster executives). They were attached to their VCRs and DVD players. Attached to 'owning' their cassette tapes and discs. Not wanting to part with them. "HOW WILL THEY EVER STREAM 4K OVER INTERNET????"

It was the Millenials who made streaming a thing.

Gen Z and Alpha aren't used to owning much of anything. They are growing up in a world where everything is a monthly service. THEY WILL kill consoles.

The US's internet infrastructure is getting better. 5G UW home wi-fi pucks are spreading. 1GB Fiber AND 10gb Fiber is making it's way to more neighborhoods. Microsoft's spent the last 20 years building new data centers and networks all around the U.S which could make latency a thing of the past. They are PERFECTLY positioned to make this work.

Microsoft is ready.

And when no one listened to me, Microsoft again signaled their intentions when they literally tripped over themselves to give up exclusive rights to Activision's most popular games. And as Apple and the EU have have shown us non-exclusivity doesn't mean that you don't get to set the rules to fullfill obligations. They are allowing 3rd party app stores but are requiring a bunch of hoops and loops and fees and they are still pretty much in control. And the EU is cool with that. What's to stop Microsoft from telling Sony that COD only works with GamePass?

There's a good chance GamePass will die too, maybe not straight away but it's not growing, and most of its users are on Xbox.

I just anticipate a move to becoming a 3rd party publisher, shoving everything they have wherever they can (PS, Nintendo, mobile).
I still expect Xbox as a brand to stick around, and you'll see another console in the future but it won't be their main focus. "Microsoft Games" will be the focus, the next Xbox will basically be a gamepass machine and it'll just be a 100% digital option for people who don't want to spend X amount more $ for a PS6/PC i guess

Also, when Microsoft literally tripped over themselves to give up exclusive rights to Activision's most popular games I knew it was over.

And I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft isn't/wasn't closely watching the way Apple moves with the App Store and the precedent they just set with EU. Where Apple fulfilled their promise to open up iOS to 3rd party app stores...thereby fulflling the letter of the law. BUT....introduced a bunch of rules, restrictions, and fees along with it.

What's to stop Microsoft from explicitly tying future COD games to GamePass architecture and requiring Sony and Nintendo to allow GamePass in order to get COD? Again, that seems like it fulfills the letter of the law of non-exclusivity. And with the the app store wars raging here in the U.S. Something tells me that Sony and Nintendo might soon (5 years) have to open up the doors to 3rd party app stores and a potential full version of GamePass before that COD deal ends in 10 years. Whether they like it or not.

Things are about to heat up.

"A funny thing happened in the console market, though. Budgets were being bid up. The first Gears of War cost $12 million for us to make. And it made us $100 million in profit. So that was awesome," Sweeney said. "But by Gears of War: Judgment, the game cost about $60 million to build, and made about $100 million still." Sweeney previously said that Gears of War 3's budget was around four or five times as much as the first game, so about $48 million-$60 million. Gears of War, Gears of War 2, and Gears of War 3 were made primarily by Epic Games alone, while Judgment was developed by Epic and People Can Fly.
That was back when 360 was on top and Gears was their second best seller after Halo. Since then the budgets grew further and their sales got lower and lower. There's no way in hell that Gears 4/5 made any money and even less can be said of the rest of their catalog. Someones gotta pay for this shit after all and it's not gonna be Nadella.

You can also trust MS of all companies to mess up CoD and make it irrelevant to the point that nobody cares about it in 10 years. Their management is crap and without Kotick's firm grip CoD could crash and burn.

Not sure its related to Xbox but, there's a whole lot of sucking and fucking going on!

I think there's probably truth to the rumors that we'll see select Xbox titles hit other platforms eventually, but I don't think it's going to be related to any kind of exit from the hardware space or a change in MS's "Xbox first" strategy.

Not as big as some want it to be.

What do you think it's likely to be then? I agree that people can go overboard on these things, but with all the information we do have about the situation, it does all point to an announcement of a shift to third party strategy. Makes the most sense for Microsoft.

I remember when people said the same about Sony during the ps3 era. 🤣
The difference was that Sony kicked ass and it is still kicking ass. And that was people trying to take out The leader. This time Xbox is not the leader it's a mad dog that needs to be put to sleep for good.

I think this is what will happen:

- The xbox brand isn't being discontinued
- But some (if not all) first party content will start shipping on other platforms, after a certain delay, not too different from how Sony treats PC ports these days.
