Overwhelmingly positive so far even among those who don't play VR. Looks like we have another Alyx-caliber title on our hands.

I wish this wasn't Quest 3 exclusive.
This. Oculus, Valve and Sony need to sit down and figure out something so the VR industry has a future. I don't care if they financed it, there is no reason for games like Assassin Creed and medal of honor to be stuck on oculus devices years after they bombed. Same with Resident Evil on ps platforms and Valve gatekeeping Alyx.

If you have a PSVR2 you are missing the PSVR1 games and native Quest games.
PSVR1 you're missing PSVR2 and native Quest games.
Quest 2/3 you're just missing the PSVR1/2 games.

It's not as divided as you think. Compared to consoles anyway. And Sony breaking compatibility is the biggest offense IMO, at least Meta kept Quest 3 backwards compatible with all Quest 2.

The ability to run games on the headset itself with no cables/wires allows for content that is easier to experience than wired too, especially if we're talking the casual market who don't have a PC with a 4090 GPU.

That looks absolutely amazing. While it's a full fledged Arkham game and the gameplay looked great, what shocks me are the visuals. It looks even better hands on than the previous trailer.

The devs mentioned we would be impressed seeing what an quest 3 exclusive can do when it's not tied to quest 2. They weren't joking. It's a massive step up.

Wow, when I saw the first reveal of gameplay during the Gamescom stream, the poor bitrate made the graphics appear like they weren't up to snuff, but taking a closer look here at some direct feed footage, it looks surprisingly good for what amounts to cellphone hardware.

it's also kind of amusing how after the failure of next gen disasters gotham knights and suicide squad, we're finally getting a return to form in a much anticipated batman game coming from meta of all places

I have my PSVR1 and 2 hooked up to my PS5, and recently got a new PC with the PSVR2 adapter. So yea, I can play everything but those native Quest games that are not on their store to play with Revive.
Just finished Astro Bot Rescue Mission on PSVR1 the other day. Getting ready for the non-VR Astro Bot.

True, but it's still the smallest subset of VR users I believe. So it won't sell a lot.

Quest 2 sold more than all VR headsets combined plus another 10 million. Maybe Quest 3 won't reach those heights but they sell better than all other headsets by a large margin.

I just can't believe they did it. This might be up there with HL:Alyx. They took a universe we know and love, and tweaked it to work in VR.

HLA with its roots of puzzle solving and shooting, and now Batman with its melee combat and puzzle solving.

Two things I love from the previews. It looks to use Asylum for scope, and that it takes place year 3, meaning after Origins, but before Asylum. And with Troy Baker involved, he might do a little Joker at some point.

Maybe, probably pretty close atm. I wonder what the sales are like now that they had the sale that moved headsets, and this adapter selling out everywhere.
I really don't think it's as close as you think. But maybe you're right.
I had decided I wasnt buying a q3.

I guess I changed my mind, hopefully theres a bundle.
There's a rumored new version of Quest 3 to come out this fall. Maybe that might bundle with Batman, like how the Quest 3 bundled with Asgards Wrath 2.

It's a must have game for Quest 3 owners. Graphics look stunning for a mobile game. Well done devs.

Some technical impressions I've learned from a few videos

No fps reprojection(its native)
Resolution is consistent across the lenses to the edges
Real time shadows
Full body character, legs and arms are visible
No low resolution textures like most Quest games

So nice to see real time shadows in a quest game. It makes such a difference.

The game's producer and director has answered this concern: (Timestamped at 35:10)

Fair, but my wishes remain. I guess my wish is moreso "I wish this was something entirely different than it is", which is not really constructive. That said, I am definitely not buying a Quest again or any VR headset for any game any time soon. I'm sure others will, but the future where VR is actually attractive is just .. far off for me.

The lead devs look like a small, focused group of dudes who love the franchise and love VR. And no token women on the interviews or any other nonsense. This will be good.

Yup, I was waiting to see a few pink/blue haired token hires. Probably the biggest indication that this will be good is not seeing them spewing their vision about a "diverse" experience being the priority.

The only minor negatives I caught in those videos:
  • not open in any meaningful way; more of a central hub area of some sort and otherwise linear objectives branching out from it
  • no major sidequests, one path
  • roughly ~10 hour estimate for main story? based on one reviewer who presumably heard it from the team
although, that actually sounds a lot like Arkham Asylum. Maybe it's good to go back to the roots instead of the large city experience.

I would actually enjoy driving the Batmobile through the full city in VR in a sequel, though. Maybe if it's successful it will happen.

Sigh. I'm going to have to buy a fucking Quest 3, aren't I?

...and watch this massively outsell Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League.

They intentionally made the game like Arkham Asylum in terms of level design and mostly everything, so that's why. I don't think any of those are negative. I mean I'd prefer a 50 hour game I guess but this is probably very focused and narrative driven. I prefer the metromania style for the batman games, it worked better imo.

Alyx is at least available on any headset you have. Meta used to be shockingly open, but are locking their shit down now with the Quest 3 - freezing out PCVR even with their own store.

Meta has never really been open. Back in the Oculus Rift days, when they made PCVR games they were exclusive to their store AND headsets (though you could bypass that with ReVIVE). The Quest took off because it doesn't need a PC, and that is part of the reason they don't make PCVR games anymore because PCVR games sell minuscule amounts. The other part is that they want to be like the Nintendo of VR, making games exclusively for their systems.

I could see the Arkham series continuing on Quest platforms. The VR devs are focused on telling the story of Batman and not all the off the rails stuff Rocksteady went for later on. There's tons of opportunities between the other Arkham games to keep going and Meta essentially has unlimited funds.

The two heavies on the game (director and producer) are totally all in on the game. You can feel their passion for this product. I can't wait to give them my money for their game.

I love that they did research for things like alternate costumes for VR characters. They saw that almost nobody cared to change how Iron man looked in the VR game, so they didn't waste time and resources to create a bunch of bat suits.

Everything you just said makes it sound way better. Less bloat. The team did say there is side content and collectibles though.

Finally watched every gameplay impression on YT. Man I'm hyped. The mainstream journalists, Arkham non VR fanatics, and VR fanatics are saying the same positive things.

Jesus, this anti-consumer BS is so annoying. Meta is buying out every legitimate VR title when I want to play these games on superior sets like the Valve Index or Reverb G2. I don't want to buy a Quest 3 just to play 3 games and VR sets have terrible resell value so you can't even get your money back either like with a console/PC.
