Colin Moriarty: Concord cost 400M. Was viewed as the future of PS.

If I'm hearing right; he said they(most likely not all Sony) spent $200 million initially and basically had nothing to show for it? So they spent ANOTHER $200 million on it?

How do you spend $200 million and not have anything? And how do you then decide to buy the studio afterwards LOL

I have a feeling this started out like Blizzards Titan game, that was an MMO which turned into overwatch. Perhaps this had a singleplayer component at some point? They were hyping up the story and cutscenes which is really odd for an online GAAS to say the least.

Herman is really going to have a $400 million dollar flop on his hands, followed up by closing out a State of Play with Horizon Remake being the big announcement in the span of a month.

muahahahahaha
LoL if they do this .. "but hooooold theres more" fade to black .. Horizon Remake with updated fat aloy

I don't know if the 400M is accurate, but...

Sony were very confident in this IP.

- Episode featured in Lost Levels
- Waited until May 30th to revel this game for the first time.

Anyone want to work out the team size from this?

Normally credits arnt over an hour long, just saying. You gotta pay for all these additional contractors and services that worked on the game.

Concord has 1,982 people listed in credits.
TLoU2 has 2,335 people listed in credits.

More than I expected from Concord but still less than TLoU2.

Because the numbers don't add up.

We know the team size and budgets of a number of games.

Naughty Dog had around 350 employees working on The Last of Us 2. Obviously that game had a ton of outsourcing too. That title was in development for 6 years and cost 200 million to make. Naughty Dog is also located in an expensive part of California.

We know Concord had a team of "less than 12" working on it in 2019 and ballooned up to around 160.

It takes room temperature IQ to believe Concord has some kind of crazy leverage to demand 3x the pay of Naughty Dog when it's a new team with a new IP. Your value goes up AFTER you prove yourself capable, not before. Colin quite literally pulled these numbers from his a%$.
Damn, so you're just going to ignore the massive credits huh. EDIT: You did at least address the credits. And the Amazon TV show. And the CGI (not included in the credits) that was pre-created for who knows how much in advance, they meant to release it weekly for the foreseeable future.
Do you think all this stuff comes cheap? TLOU2 was released quite a while back already, budgets are ballooning to unsustainable levels tbh.

The credits don't point to a game that cost 2x more than The Last of Us 2.

If anything they point to a game that costs about 75% as much as The Last of Us 2.

Some have done their own math and does no good to argue with them

They must protect team blue at all costs as do some here for team green

It's not even in dispute. This is the worst video game failure of all times when you take in the cost, how quickly it was pulled down, the shit sales numbers, etc.

This flop will change shit for atleast Sony but I suspect for an industry as a whole as a cautionary tale.

Provide us with some other numbers pulled from youerass instead.

What he is saying sounds entirely plausible.

Whenever you are saying it sounds one silable away from another ban.

I don't need to.

We're living in the fake news age. Fake news works on the gullible. It's created by those who profit from it. Colin has every incentive to spread BS because he knows the cows will eat it up.

Enjoy the grub I guess?

Sony nickel and diming everyone for every penny whilst they blow cash like this. Their mismanagement is disrespectful to their fans.

They have no other numbers but instead want to attack others for believing what people are "reporting" their sources say

They can't just ignore the thread, they must defend

So give me Quantifiable proof that this is bollocks.

Enjoy sniffing your own farts i guess.

No way. I refuse to believe that. Are you saying to me that this disaster cost 400m AND NO ONE INSIDE SONY PLAYED THIS SHIT AND SAID THIS COULD BE ONE OF THE WORST FLOP IN THE GAME HISTORY?

Dude, I can't fucking believe in that. Can't be. Those guys are literally being paid to destroy gaming industry and nobody did or take any action before release.

Something is really going bad inside Sony Western culture. Jesus Christ.

SlimySnake has been pointing this out for a couple years now that thr budgets at Sony are extremely overinflated and that something foul is going on at Sony ...im starting to think he's on to something

He does not have every incentive to spread BS. There's something called reputation. Takes a long time to build, easy to tarnish.

I'd believe $200M-$250M. $400M just doesn't make sense. I don't think that number is accurate.
8 years of development in West coast adds up $ pretty damn fast.
And geography aside, it can even be a surprise to people on the team how much things cost over time - I've been on the inside of one near-9 figure failure - and though it wasn't even close to as bad (it had an actual life-cycle on the market even though it stayed in the red, but it also made it to the market in just a bit over 2 years) - the fact the costs added up to what they did was not at all clear during the dev cycle.

So to me, the real question is how they kept it going for as long as they did - because someone had to be conned into footing the bill before - Sony only got involved at the tail-end after all.

You don't understand.

This is the response of everyone who creates and spreads fake news. Here, I'll demonstrate for you.

I, Men_in_Boxes, heard Concord only cost 2 million dollars to make. I talked with someone who works at Firewalk.

You are skeptical of my claim. Rightly so.

I say "Well prove it. Prove that I'm lying. I have no incentive to lie to you. Give me quantifyable proof that Concord didn't cost 2 million dollars to make. See...you can't. Therefore I must be telling the truth."

All fake news is created because it's DESIGNED to be unfalsifiable. We can't question Colin Moriarty. We don't know who he talked to. We don't know if the person has financial knowledge of the company. We just have to trust him.

Says more about you than it does about him, that you think making up shit and farting it across the internet is a good practice

A lot of massive, well funded companies participate in the spreading of misinformation because they know their audience doesn't care. Colin has an audience who LOVES this information. If word gets out that he's wrong, he'll just say, "Well, I guess I won't use that source again"...which is the tactic all these companies use to maintain their reputation with their audience.

Not falsifiable? Sony is a publicly traded corporation.

Great post.

When I posted that I was thinking the Hollywood glitz just across their games. I forgot about all the movies and TV shows they link up to their games now trying to make it a multi-pronged IP. And Concord fit right in with all the cinematics they did. If the game did well, it'd be a perfect IP to adapt to TV or movies.
kruis kruis This is why I don't buy the idea that Totoki is the guy who cleans house. Almost all the bullshit we're seeing from Sony comes from his directives.

Bro, they literally couldv made syphon filter game and tried a socom gaas game with less money, how df they wasted 400 million on those shit character designs

No eonder jim ryan got fired

Cmon japan take back your company

Wait no way. How many employees was there in the company? Who was getting why over pay? 150 ppl, let say on avg getting 150k a year. 8 years that only 180mil. Wtf something not adding up

The difference you're purposely omitting is that you aren't an industry insider or journalist like Moriarty. Him intentionally spreading lies about the industry would ruin his entire reputation, credibility, career, and Patreon funded channel.

You, on the other hand, as a forum nobody, can say whatever batshit insane things you want without fear of consequences.

Well, except maybe yet another site suspension, which, in reading your increasingly unhinged responses, you seem to be dangerously close to getting.

I believe Colin on this, as with most things he's reported over the years. Its definitely a shame, hopefully they course correct and fast.
