I wonder if they used the community projects for the AoD fixes or started from scratch. Nice to see, I can't wait.

Holy shit, I often forget how TRVI soundtrack is one of the GOAT and thankfully this trailer reminded me about that.

Already preordered the TRI-III physical deluxe edition, I want one for this too.

Sadly the only good game here is LR, but it's worth the asking price.
I am curious how they'll tackle AoD, it was woefully unfinished wonder if they are going to be faithful to polish it up a lot.

I didn't think any of these games were held in that high regard. Maybe I is wrong
The Last Revelation (4) was good level design wise, music wise, etc, just the story wasn't as good and it being in one location made it feel less globe trottery compared to the first three.

The Last Revelation is better than 3 in every way. If the IP wasn't having games released every year i feel that game would be much more appreciated. The story is also much better than 3.

The team that had done TR1 and 2 moved on to make the next jump in quality for that IP which ended up being The Last Revelation, that released 2 years after TR 2. They created a b-team to make TR3 which honestly isn't that much different from 2. Some extra moves but Lara's model is the same...overall it wasn't much more ambitious. It's like a more dfficult, reskined TR2. It's just more bloated, harder, etc. The studio didn't tell Eidos they were going to kill Lara Croft at the end of The Last Revelation. They wanted to get rid of that IP cause they were just overworked at that point with 4 games in 4 years.

Chronicles was another "we need another game while the real sequel is getting ready" and ended up being done by the b-team again while the main team started working on The Angel of Darkness after working on The Last Revelation. Core Design didn't even want to make that game (Chronicles). At that point they were tired and done with the hole thing.

Then the entire studio was all-hands on deck for The Angel of Darkness once Chronicles released. The development was...troubled.

Watch this video and see what happens when you have a publisher shamelessly milking a franchise, a studio burned out from yearly releases and an ambitions release schedule:

The worst part about that game? You can feel its ambition...everywhere. There's a great game underneath all of its issues that never truly shines. The controls are a mess, you can see plenty of doors that were clearly made for you to open and you can't, parts of entire sets created for you to explore that you never get to, etc...the game even has a way for you to make money and you can earn some of it...but you can only spend it around the first few areas of the game in one fucking store. It's really frustrating.

I hope they include that really cringey promo video they did with angel of darkness with the developers talking about the game and what they were trying to achieve.

I actually had a decent time playing it but it was pretty flawed. I’m a long time Lara fan though so I am excited for this collection.

Sometimes I forget just how many of these they made before the reboot.

Right? I only remembered there were four PS1 games and thought that was overkill, but there were actually five.

i wonder if they will fix Angel of Darkness so it becomes actually GOOD

It'll be a hard job. Bringing on the OpenLara developer plus original TR technical teammembers allowed the first TR Remastered collection to deliver on almost all expectations of an improved-yet-faithful remaster, but Angel of Darkness is a mess of unfinished/undercooked elements, and also is on such a different technical foundation. (Luckily, there was a concurrent PC version, which has to help with the porting process.) There are a ton of fan patches that have tried to make TR AoD competent, but unlike OpenLara, Aspyr probably wouldn't be able to collect up all these dispirate components for a professional product (although they did steal a little bit for Battlefront Collection,) so they'd have to put developers to work making core changes themselves (without breaking what's ported in the process.) The good news is, TR seems to have the financial incentive still to put good work in, and Aspyr is capable of good work (although I would have said the same for SW BF and KOTOR remasters, yet those have some legendary problems.) We'll have to see if this one gets any extra overhauling.

The feature list for the collection doesn't say much about additional work specifically on TR AoD aside from the prerequisite remastered/classic graphics, non-tank control options, boss bars, and trophy/photo modes.

  • Classic & Remastered Visuals: Experience Lara Croft’s adventures as you remember them, or toggle to modern, remastered graphics that bring new life to the environments, characters, and artifacts.
  • Global adventures: Journey with Lara across the globe, from the ancient tombs of Egypt in The Last Revelation to the shadowy streets of Paris in The Angel of Darkness.
  • Uncover dark secrets: Dive into the darkest chapters of Lara’s life as she uncovers long-buried secrets and confronts sinister forces. This remastered collection ensures that the story of Lara’s disappearance and subsequent return is more mysterious than ever.
  • Classic and Modern controls: Players can choose between the original tank-style controls, offering the authentic Tomb Raider experience, or opt for modern controls inspired by later entries in the series, providing smoother movement and camera control.
  • Boss Health Bars: This feature provides valuable feedback during tough encounters, helping players strategize more effectively without detracting from the game’s original challenge.
  • 150+ Trophies: We’ve packed this remaster with over 150 trophies, including nods to iconic moments from the series. These trophies provide both seasoned veterans and new players with plenty of content to explore and achieve.
  • Photo Mode: A fan-favorite feature is back! This collection will contain all photo mode poses from Tomb Raider I-III Remastered as well as new ones! Share your favorite moments and the beauty of the remastered environments with the community.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Day One & I'll double dip if they don't release physical at launch, hopefully they will because they know its sells.
Angel of Darkness should be interesting.

Yeah. I assume they are going to fix up Angel of Darkness. I am curious what they will do with it.

It will be great if they totally repair it.
There's an overhaul mod that should be completed by now. I'm too lazy to link it let alone Google it though

EDIT:

Guess I'm not

Excellent news. I thought at best we'd get The Last Revelation as DLC for the existing collection. The fact this has Chronicles and Angel of Darkness too is much more interesting. I remember playing a demo of the latter game back in the day and thinking it was completely unplayable, so any control improvements they can make would be welcome.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Didn't they go and censor the first 3 games after the fact? Like they had their little "I'm a weak man and easily offended" warning at the beginning, but I seem to recall that they edited stuff like the posters in one of the lockers later on or something dumb like that.

Can't say I'm willing to support that with these next 3 games. Not that I'd want to play Angel of Darkness, regardless.

That's great news. Unfortunately I haven't had the time to finish the first trilogy yet. I'm slowly progressing in the second half of TR2. Honestly in my memory the Venice levels were a lot longer and I was disappointed to leave it so soon.

Loved the modern tomb raider games a little bit linear, but definitely an under dog series. These old tomb raider games are some people’s favorites.

wow, surprised of AoD, if they manage to fix that game, it could be a second oportunity for that game to shine
Modders did that already, I linked a mod that fixes the controls, finishes unfinished content and way more. I doubt they're going to do much better than this

Awesome, now it better have the toggle button like the first trilogy has.
I couldn't get past some parts in the tr1 without it as the lighting was so bad on the switch version. There were some locations that were way too dark in the "improoved graphics" Yet when I turned it back to original, it worked great.
I also didn't like the new control scheme.

Did they patch the first trilogy up at all? Was it only on switch that lighting was too dark in places or was it like that for all the releases?

Man do I miss classic Lara, the sex video-game icon. I already got the 1-3 remasters on Steam. Definitely getting this as well.

I know exactly what you're talking about and its still an issue, although it doesnt bother me too much. Maybe they encourage you to flares or somethin. Im sure they will keep the toggle graphics feature, that was one of the best parts
