Even with the price point, I don't think this is surprising. It's a new, fancy thing in a market that embraces new, fancy things. People complained about price, sure, but people will always complain about price.

A device whose preorder went live yesterday( at third party retailers) outsold a 4 year old Xbox series. Context matters, it was always going to outsell other systems during first month of preorder.

PS4 Pro sold 20 million, 5 million lifetime wouldn't be pretty damn good. I'm still convinced the price is a test run for the PS6 and if it sells really good, i would expect the PS6 to be 599-649 Euro without a disc drive.
