Anyone have experience with junk removal services?

I had a bunch of old furniture to get rid of not too long ago and was in the same boat. I thought about renting a truck, but then I came across a local furniture removal Indianapolis service. They were super convenient. The team showed up, took everything out for me, and even cleaned up afterward.

In Paris you put a request to the municipal services, they will give you time and date to put things outside, then they take it for free.

I used 1800GOTJUNK.
They would not give a quote. They based their pricing off of the cubic footage of the truck and how much space my crap took up. At least that's how they did it when I used them a few years ago. And like Raven117 said in post #2, they are not cheap. I think I paid $400 for them to remove one couch and one chair. Now mind you, the guys who showed up were very polite, respectful, and professional. They broke down the couch with their own tools since it wouldn't fit through the door. They cleaned up the mess without being asked. It was a fairly fast and friendly service call, all things told. But they are indeed pricey depending on your budget.

So did it come through the door broken down and then get built inside?
Mine got in just barely, and when the time to GOTJUNK it comes if I could get it in here then those motherfuckers can get it out. They'll even have gravity on their side.

That's a funny scene.
Long story short: It was a spare couch we didn't need for the finished part of the basement, but the wife insisted and I didn't feel like arguing. It was delivered while I was at work so I never dealt with it. I have no clue how they got it inside the house and down to our basement, given the physics required. Predictably, the wife eventually didn't want the couch anymore and BAM, 1800 dudes in my basement.

I realized how much easier it was to let them handle the heavy lifting rather than dealing with the hassle of renting a truck and doing it myself. Plus, I didn't have to worry about where to take the furniture or if it would even fit in the truck. It felt great to see all that clutter gone without the stress!

Yea, it's expensive, but they do what they say they are going to do. You can also use Taskrobot or whatevwer it is and there are people who do it, may be cheaper may not be.

In my country there are people driving around with small trucks using megaphones asking to let them take all the junk you don't want.
Sure you have to be there when they pass at a random time and since they are not a business they don't have any contact info. But they are pretty common, at least in my neighborhood i hear them about once or twice every month.

Thread reminds me how much worse life was before I owned a good pickup truck.
I mean, I'm rural so it's 100% necessary anyway, but the simple change in life from having your own truck is amazing, you'll never go back. Need to buy a couch or something? No problem. Even if it's 10 feet long you'll have no issue once you know the absolute basics of ratchet ties etc. Throwing things out? Drive to the dump yourself, I feel like I do that every 2 months to get rid of things, so much easier.

I once called a junk removal service on our old old house because we found suitcases and rats in our attic and didn't want to open them in case body parts were stuffed in there and also to get ride of some janky fence thing in the back yard that was falling apart. In retrospect it's pretty cheap just to diy and go to the dump if you don't have anything gross and a big enough car.
