After getting a rotisserie chicken the other day, it was yummy by the way, I have come to conclusion that white meat is always worse than dark meat. Here's the thing, white meat is always drier than dark meat, which always makes it worse. I have to really choke down the breast meat with how much drier it is compared to the thigh and leg meat. I guess what I'm asking is why do people like white meat at all? It's clearly drier and it can never be made less dry than dark meat can be. And it isn't just chicken, the same with turkey during the holidays. I only go for dark meat.

It's baffling how anyone prefers white meat to dark meat. Agree?

Add a sauce, hummus, avocado, or dressing.

On topic: I can't eat white fish, they have no taste without seasoning and then - why am I eating fish just for seasoning?

I've had white girlfriends before but never had their meat. Wait, we are talking about chicks right......?

Ohhhh chicken. Yeah dark meat tastes better, white meat is just too dry. Only reason to eat white meat is if you want more protein.

If your chicken breast is dry, you are cooking it wrong. And KFC or any other chain does not count!
That being said, I would still eat the driest, stringiest white meat before eating dark!

me and all my family and friends laugh at this poll. dark meat all the way if there's a choice. I'm just gonna ask one question to easily settle this. which one is more expensive in a restaurant that offers both?

My wife was always on the fence. She went from liking dark meat to white meat on a regular basis, always swapping between the two. Sometimes she couldn't decide and would have both at the same time. Double on her plate. A DP if you will. However, she switched to white meat only when she met me.

Must be the way I serve up my white meat.

I prefer dark it's juicier but what about the size of the portions?

No. Some dark meat has too many ligaments and fat aggregations. White meat is consistent and can avoid being dry if basted properly.

If I'm having fried chicken on the bone, I agree that dark meat is juicer and more flavorful.

But if it's more part of a separate dish like chicken caesar salad, fajitas, etc, white meat works really well.

Dark meat tends to be too oily/greasy/even "slimy" at times for my tastes. I can stomach it but definitely don't prefer it.

The actual texture/taste of white meat is preferable, and if it's too dry you just add some type of a sauce or gravy or side with it.

One of my favourite foods is Chinese or Thai and chicken is much better with that cuisine. A nice steak is nice sometimes, but I'm a chicken man.

I grilled some chicken breast last night and the darkened edge flavor bombs are absolutely the best. You just have to make a good marinade and cook to the right temperature. Never been a fan of dark meat, had some fried chicken over the weekend and the dark meat was slimy like someone else had mentioned. The breasts, though, were juicy and fantastic.

Also, splurge sometime on a real bird from a local farm. I can't eat the battery farmed stuff anymore, flavourless and too often suffer from various defects that are pretty gross... A good range bird will probarly be 2-3 more than the major chains birds, but it is totally worth if you take care of the carcass, make your chicken buillon etc. It's like eating different species. :\

I've been thinking about raising my own birds in the yard.

Yard birds, I will call them.

I like dark meat too. I find that most dislike of white meat has to do with them cooking it wrong and drying it out.

Meh. People always say that... but white meat just doesn't have the flavour naturally.

You have to do something like brine it for the white to stand out.

Even if it isn't dried out... a chicken breast still tastes like nothing.

A chicken thigh tastes fucking delicious no matter what you do.
