Astro Bot has sold 1.5 million copies

Sales comparison with other 3d platformers in this generation.

Super Mario Odyssey - 9.08m in 67 days
Super Mario 3D World BF - 5.59m in 47 days
Kirby and the forgotten land - 2.65m in 5 days
Crash bandicoot trilogy - 2.5m in 90 days
Sonic Frontier - 2.5m in 35 days
It takes two - 2m in 66 days
Astro Bot - 1.5m in 58 days
Ratchet and Clank rift apart - 1.1m in 50 days
Sonic x Shadow generations - 1m in 3 days
Time for a Switch port!

Now this is a rough estimate I'm making based on data Sony has given before (75% of PS5 users buy games digitally). If that is the case for Astrobot then at least 75% of the revenue it made Sony doesn't pay out a 30% share (this is all ignoring tax). Where the physical copies still have that 30% go to the stores.

That said at 1.5 million units, the game made around $83.25M. I wouldn't mind knowing the budget of the game, I hope it has the legs to make over $100M. I'd like to see a game so well made succeed.

Im long past platformers, its more Nintendo game + they didnt bother with psvr2 so I didnt bother to check it

So it was a graveyard after all. Should have been on PC day 1 I guess.

It is not going to do well on PC either. Both Sackboy and Rift Apart sold poorly on PC.

Buy Astro Bot! Play it and then come back to this thread.

Most games need to go back to smaller budgets like this. 1.5 million copies sold is a great success when your game doesn't cost 200million to make.

Spectacular game that I hope continues to sell. If it tops out at 2 or 2.5 million, which seems doable over time, I think it'll be a moderate success for Sony.

For many families PS5 is mainly a fortnite machine. That's just the reality. But it means there is a demand for family games on PS5.

What other similar games do we have on that machine? Sackboy? Ther rest of platformer games are either rubbish or shooters disguised as platformers.

That's why Sony is releasing Lego Horizon.

I bet they come out with at least 1 if not 2 family friendly titles per year moving forward.

Evergreen, will have great legs. Impressive numbers for new players who brought into ecosystem by a game that finally appeals to them.

Exactly this, it's all about doing good business, but people tend to said Flop when a low budget Nintendo games sell this amount. BTW, due the quality of this game and critic reception, this game deserve more, but i was expecting this kind of results. Playstation fanbase need to support more this kind of game… I have a few friends that has been calling Mario games childishs for years… now they don't want to touch Astrobot for obvious reasons… Sony need to work on change the PlayStation user base mentality.

I'm thinking $60 is a little high for a 12-15 hr platformer with a relatively new, unknown IP. Once they drop the price to $40, that should help.

Considering the price and how long the game is and it not being a massive name this amount sales makes sense. I wish it had made at least 2 million.

I thought it would be more like 2 mill given all the positive buzz it got.
That said 1.5 mill for a $60 non Nintendo platformer on a single console isn't bad either. Wouldn't be surprised if the game has some legs too, specially once it starts going on sale.

lmao thats it?

I was laughed at in a thread this year when I said this type of game doesn't attract the typical PlayStation audience. Its seen as a game for kids.

1.5 million with those reviews and that large install base is trash. no two ways around it.

Should be doing triple these numbers.

Decent for what Astro Bot is, but I think this shows how many Gaffers are seriously overestimating demand for these kind of games (same as Stellar Blade).

While Astro Bot seems like the 'break-out title' for Team Asobi, these kind of numbers show why Sony is going with the Gaas-strategy.
They can't keep running their business on a few major titles each gen and a handful of these games, they need more steady revenue.

On the other hand, Sony's single player games are a more reliable stream of income than going to the GAAS casino. Sony's gambling with a whole lot of money.

That's a shame. Didn't expect crazy 10mil type numbers that some people were expecting but expected more than this. Game deserves way more than this. Still was probably highly profitable for Team Asobi and Sony. Plus with it being a platformer, good chance it will have long legs.

It was $70, people are not made of money. I and many others would have bought it day one at $40.
No need to complain about the price. Disc version was already dirt cheap at least in Europe in Septembre and like 80% of the PS5 owners have a disc drive if i'm not wrong.

That's ridiculous. Mario Odyssey did roughly 5M in 6 weeks on Switch, and that's the fastest selling 3D Mario ever made, an IP that is infinitely bigger than AstroBot.

5M after 9 weeks was never in the cards. It'll take years to get there and beyond, which the game hopefully has the legs for.

Reading from impression and how people rave about this online and from those Chris Eurocharts make it sound like it sold gamgbuster 5+ million.

1.5 million is kinda low to be honest

People need to start putting things into proper perspective.

It's a PlayStation exclusive and not even on PS4.

We knew that games like Silent Hill 2 hit 1 million units ACROSS platforms by October 17th. We also know that Space Marine 2 hit 4.5 million units in its first month across multiple platforms. Metaphor sold 1 million units across platforms AND generations.

I don't think 1.5 million for a PS5 exclusive title of this size and scope and price is a bad thing, especially with people's time divided among Space Marine 2, Silent Hill 2, Wukong, Metaphor, annual sports titles, COD, dragon age, DBZ, undisputed, diablo expansion, sonic x shadow.

Like I and others have said, it will have legs and it will get a boost from GOTY if it wins it as well as a boost from discounting it keeping it relevant. A possible boost from bundling as well.

Yeah the childish aesthetic and platformer stuff turned me off too. The people saying it should be GOTY and praising it to high heaven peaked my interested though. I'll give it a go at cheaper

That is what i meant yes. Not that they bought a console for it. There is clearly a demand there that is not being supplied so far.

Oh, new owners of Sony first-party games, ok. Yeah, it's nice to see more diversity in their lineup. I get tired of the AAA cinematic games myself.

Congratulations. Hopefully they will release a Ps5 slim or Ps5 pro bundle with Astrobot someday (not the free game but the full game).

That's pretty low tbh. I mean it's fine for the budget, but you would expect more considering it's a first party title and the best reviewed game of the year so far.

This better be a Terrifier 3 scenario for Sony.

That movies budget was 2 million. It's recently crossed 63 million at the box office

Not huge numbers. But amazing profit. Hopefully the budget for this was peanuts

Is that true, though?

They released 2 Gaas titles, HD2 and Concord.
One was a massive success, the other a massive flop.
GT7 seems to fall into their Gaas-offerings as well and that has been doing well.

All the other upcoming titles are anyone's guess.

The catastrophic failure of Concord overshadows the lukewarm sales of Astrobot.

This has bad ex energy.

What you should be paying attention to is Helldivers 2 earning 10x more than Astro Bot despite being significantly closer to its genres floor in terms of execution. How much more money does Helldiver 3 make with a 94 metascore out of the gate?

I'll be playing this once it's on a bigger digital sale than 10%. I have so many other games to play first. Glad to see it's doing well, though, because it looks amazing.

Flash in the pan. Most are already bored with it. Why would people buy into the next iteration when they already know the existing one gets stale in a month.
