Digital Foundry Games of 2024: The John Linneman Collection!

Really solid choices, imo, as expected from John.
Insane praise for Indiana Jones, game has been at the top of my most anticipated titles since it was announced but hearing him dispense such glowing acclaim makes the wait so damn hard.

Indiana Jones is a mixed bag imo. Great graphics, music and voice acting but I don't think the combat or stealth is that great. I don't like how you're constantly dropping your melee weapons or torches. Also don't like the main pistol being locked to your outfit. Etc.

  1. Astrobot
  2. Penny's Big Breakaway
  3. Silent Hill 2
  4. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
  5. Tekken 8
  6. Parking Garage Rally
  7. Actionblast
  8. Granblue Fantasy: Relink
  9. Stellar Blade
  10. Minishoot Adventures
  11. Devil Blade Remake

Some really great picks here.

All true, but the good way outweighs the bad imo. One of those games that has obvious flaws but just succeeds anyway.

Coming from a huge Indy movie fan it's so worth the praise. And it's not just my #1 of 2024, I'd seriously put it at top 3 the last 5 years or so.

John's list is always diverse and got me buying two new games, #11 and #10. Some odd one in there as well but it's a much more interesting list than anything you see on the big websites.

John and oliver are awesome and are my two personal favs on digital foundry. Both of them come off as guys you'd see at gaming conventions talking about retro games and everything. They both give off genuine gamer vibes and i love hearing both of them on the show and their opinions on things.

Why? Was it not a good game? Was going to buy but it's not in the sale as yet. I like my ass discounted…..

I found it dull, boring and the level design sucks, the textures in general are a joke as well for a next gen game

The Anti woke team crowd uses this games as weapon because of her protagonist but I think that if it wasn't because of her, and how blatantly sexualized she is, nobody would give this game the time of the day and I say this as a guy who hates workism in general

I really wanted to like Penny's Big Breakaway. It's ah'ite I guess. It works best as a handheld game like the SteamDeck or the Switch.

You're in the right place to say those things lol

The combat is good, great bosses and decent music

But we all know most people like because it has ass and tits

I cant take seriously this list with Stellar Blade in it
If you watched the video you'd know why he chose it, he says it's more because it reminds him of the PS2 era games and that Shift Up did an amazing job capturing that old school vibe with a fresh coat of paint.

Agreed. John's videos and opinions give me "EGM in the 90s" vibes. It helps that he's a bit older than me and has been a gamer his entire life, so his history with the hobby is at least as long as mine (late 80s/early 90s for me) and thus colored by the same experiences watching it grow and evolve over time. I also appreciate his DF Retro videos. His recent one about racing games on PlayStation vs Saturn was really cool.

John is easily the best DF member. I love his DF Retro stuff and I generally agree with his opinions. Never understand the vitriol with John.

He also isn't a full on PCMR twat like Alex. I feel like he's pretty agnostic overall which is nice.

The other guy that I can never remember his name is pretty great too. Bigger guy that did the Cerny interview recently.

The "Oh no the FPS dropped to 59 better lock it at 30" memes are funny though.

Solid list imo. Some games are OK to be there, but again personal tastes. Stellar Blade, Granblue and Astro Bot are my top too.

Oliver Mackenzie.

BTW Mackenzie's constant uptalking is incredibly annoying though. Hate that affectation.

Was anyone else thrown when John did his Retro game if the year speaking Japanese? Felt like he just wanted to flex that.

While people are talking about the DF personalities they like, I can't believe there's no love for Richard Leadbetter 😥

Oliver Mackenzie is a bit too droll and monotone for me, and I don't think he's as knowledgeable or as insightful as the others.
