Digital Foundry: The Legend of Zelda Games: Switch 2 Editions vs Original Switch 1 [Sponsored]

I'm excited to pick upTotK again as these upgrades look -really- nice.. but.. this is def. not the way to do it DF.

There's nothing about them going into detail themselves, this is literally just a 7 minute ad for the game. Yikes.

Welp, I like DF but I hope the community absolutely rips them a new one and they end up explaining it, why even do this in the first place?
Fucking hell...

That IGN effect is coming in very hard with this.

The complete lack of DF commentary over the video is a story all by itself. "Sponsored video" isnt the right description for this. "Advert" would be far more accurate.

Embarrassing for them

It was already in 4K two weeks ago, it's the exact same video as Nintendo.

Then it's utterly pointless. Nintendo must have paid them a nice stack of cash for that ad.

The title was updated with [Ad].

Yes, they did. Because they obviously saw the negative reaction. Which they could have predicted and even prevented by inserting a small clip at the beginning saying it's a sponsored video.

I'm only subbed for df retro anyways. If they're gonna start putting straight up ads in my subscription feed, then I might rethink that decision.

Guess they only noticed it was an ad after they uploaded it and they got an avalanche of negative engagement. Poor stuff from them in every way

Thread full of sanctimonious, self entitled, teenage level fan-boy rage.

DF is a business with salaries and bills to pay and they owe none of you, anything.

Some people seriously need to grow the fuck up with all this faux, manufactured outrage over nothing very important, at all.

Yesterday I could swear I didn't see "ad" or even "sponsored" and so I was excited expecting to see a real DF video where they talk about the versions and what not. Nope.

Also, expected more of the enhancements, I still spot some ugly effects when they showed the parts with grass and such. Not as clean as I hoped.

They have a Patreon that rakes in a fair bit of money, exactly for the reason because they "don't want to depend on sponsors etc etc."
That 16k patreon money can barely cover german minimum wage (12,80€) if they're all full time employees working 174 hours a month (2200€ a month), UK's minimum wage is higher (£12,20=14,20€). Rich has 6 people to pay. DF has expenses as well. They really need to do sponsored content to keep the lights on.

They changed the title twice. Sponsored was at the end at first (I felt the same way as you), so it was cut off by most browsers, then they moved it to the front and then they changed it to Ad.

Rich said that it was a "sponsored insert" or something like that on the DF discord (someone on the purple forum posted a screenshot of it), because people were complaining.

so I assume you'd say the same about Gamers Nexus then right? never trust their GPU reviews because they had people from Intel on multiple times to show the architecture of the Arc GPUs

can't trust their benchmarks anymore guys, they interviewed the intel dudes!

how does having interviews in any way make it so objective data "should never be used as reference source for anything"?
Agreed. I dont have a problem with sponsored content at all as long as it's made clear that it is sponsored. I feel companies should be allowed to market their products and I have no issue with someone like Linus or Jay giving a run down.

I for one apprecuiate having those guys on. We can learn something, but we have to be smart and recognize the biases.

More shill channels based on reading the spec sheet. They are bringing nothing new to the table.

Are you pixels counting when playing the game?
On PC I want a base resolution ideally no less than half of my native resolution (1440p) when using upscaling. Otherwise visual artifacts become more apparent. Hence knowing how the game performs at a given resolution is necessary to decide on what settings to choose or whether I am going to pick up the game at all.

In the case of the Switch 2, the viability of a port, especially in handheld mode, will heavily depend on the base resolution. And knowing whether it originally runs at 360p or 540p or 720p will give a good idea of the kind of image quality to expect and whether it will still look acceptable on the 7.9 inch screen.

You guys forgot that DF is now owned by IGN ?!
This literally IGN doing , forcing them to have this promo

So they're nothing more than Nintendo's bitches now.

Hopefully Richard 'teeth' Leadbetter uses at least some of the ill gotten gains from this trash on much needed dental work.

Cunts.

I don't really get what we're paying $10 for with this one. It's a resolution bump and framerate bump. Does that really require that much extra work for Nintendo? Feels like a change of two lines of code or something.

The new Zelda phone app definitely isn't worth the money either. I'm never using that.. What waste of development time to even make that thing.
