David Lynch has died aged 78

I can't even say how much Lynch and his aesthetic has influenced me. Not that I blindly loved it all but I think he was a genuine, uncompromising, old school artist and one of the last of a dying breed of filmmakers. I've read his books, have art prints of his, fucking love the sense of humor that pervades even the most horrific of his films, all that.

It's rare I'd say that about a person I don't even know but I'll miss that guy's presence in cinema. I'd even sometimes watch his weather report just because he was fucking funny. And What Did Jack Do is hilarious.

How sweet it is that they sent him off with a final weather report.

Fuck no. 🥺😔

I know you will hate me for saying I loved Dune, master, but so I've been amazed by a great deal of your craft.

Hope you're kicking back at The White Lodge. 🙏🏻

I saw this video of him a while back and it always stuck with me for some reason, I'm not sure why. It's interesting to me that unless he was traveling he ate the same thing every single day.

Bummer. I and the rest of the Peaks Freaks had been hoping we might see at least one more film/TV project from him.

He always seemed like one of the good ones in the industry. I remember watching this a while ago. It always seemed to me that he was such a wonderful person to work with. All the ladies seemed to adore him.

If you watch any behind the scenes stuff from Twin Peaks, you get the sense that most everyone liked working for him. In his later years he came off as if he were everyone's favorite grandpa.

Also, don't forget to give this one below a listen. For the most part, Peaks music (and Lynch soundtracks in general) was composed by Angelo Badalamenti, but this was composed by Lynch and happens to be one of the best tracks in the series.

Devastating news. One of my favorite directors of all time. This really sucks man.

Eraserhead completely changed my views on filmmaking while also scarring me for life

Didn't he recently have a child with the American Idol girl?

I saw a couple of his movies but I haven't really been a Lynch fan.

I am legitimately crushed by this.

I absolutely loved this man and his work. Rest in peace and thank you for probably the most extraordinary season of television I've ever seen (Twin Peaks The Return)

I always find it profoundly sad when the Wiki portrait photo of a person is transformed immediately after their death.

For a living person, it is intended to be recent, as they are now. Upon death, their image is restored to something more archetypal of their heyday. They move outside biographical time now; their early years are just as "close" as their final years.

RIP. He's one of my favourite movie directors ever and Twin Peaks one of my favourite TV shows. And of course, games I love like Silent Hill wouldn't be the same without his work. I could even say...his work influenced me in some ways. Very, VERY sad day.

His hair actually got cooler and more badass with age

For anyone who has missed it, this is a good time to watch Twin Peaks: The Return. Excellent season and has lots of Lynch in it.

You can bet your ass Sam Lake from Remedy is kicking back a few in his honor right now.

Probably Stephen King too, but he will be sipping some nice hot cuppa instead of booze since the man battled his demons long ago and came out of the battlefield scarred but victorious. And nobody wants to go back to the battlefield of his soul.

Still the best Dune and it's not even close.

Def due for a Twin Peaks rewatch as well.

Ive said it before, but this is gonna be a brutal 5-10 year stretch for us 80s kids.

Fuck me, I was rewatching Twin Peaks at this very moment than I saw this

I hope he is having a massive quantity of pie

Sad Metal Gear Solid GIF

People see the surface strangeness and think his works are cynical or mere parody, but quite the contrary. He's earnest about everything... it's never mere genre parody.
