The bear of bad news
which of these action rpgs do you like better my friends? dark souls is genius but there is sooooooo much to see and do in the land of skyrim

Skyrim was one of the few games I ever put hundreds of hours into

Revisiting it I'm oddly not that crazy about it but when it came out, holy shit was I obsessed

In TES I typically did some side quests chains, did the story for about half and dropped it. Dark Souls I beat 2 or 3 times. I fire it up and continue.

Dark Souls

Finished Skyrim recently.

It holds up great.

Dark Souls is a classic, but better Souls games have been made by From themselves.

I would say, in terms of complexity and craft, Skyrim.

In terms of exploration, Dark Souls.

Though both are complete packages provided you can live with oppressive nature of Dark Souls.

Dark Souls for different experience but Skyrim overall is a awesome game. I have put almost 300hrs into both. There is no comparison.

It's like comparing the architecture of the Sacred Family Church in Barcelona with some old cinema turn Baptist church in Redneckville.

Dark Souls is Symphony of the Night of that generation. It's a masterclass in worldbuilding, map design, lore, etc. And yes, there are some really interesting mods for it.
Skyrim is awesome only when you fill it with mods/make your own adventure. No one should play that game "vanilla". And even with 300 mods over it you still see some cracks in the structure.

I have 100h in DS1PTD/Remaster and almost 400h in Skyrim (probably way more if you consider rebuilding that game for countless runs with mods)

Both games are masterpieces but I don't see the relevance in comparing them. Completely different games and experiences.

If I had to choose? Skyrim

Skyrim was incredible at the time with the scale and sense of freedom. The neverending content. But I never got hooked on it like many did.

Dark Souls for me was a completely magical experience. I still think it's the best Souls game I have played. I enjoyed the slow methodical combat and the interconnected world is still unmatched in ways. Then the cryptic lore, that whole game just mesmerized me. One of the coolest gaming experiences I have ever had.

For story, role play, quests and adventure->Oblivion(~Skyrim)
Combat, bosses, atmosphere> Dark Souls

Combine these two and make the dream game> gen z developers?

Dark Souls for sure. Although I really enjoyed Skyrim. Dark Souls I spent hundreds of hours on, I think I got to NG++++ in the end.

I had never played anything quite like it and I loved the idea that any enemy could easily mean certain death if the player didn't approach the situation with proper caution. Nothing will beat seeing the dragon on the bridge leading to the Undead Parish at that time. Sometimes the game felt impossible, but at a certain point it all just clicks and there is no game more rewarding in my experience.

Skyrim, I played it non stop for a lot of years and loved modding the hell out of it, it's been far too long since a new Elder Scroll game,

I have never liked the Souls combat system so an easy choice for me.

Haven't played Dark Souls, I bought it but never started it because I wanted to finish Demon's Souls first which never happened.

So, no idea. But Skyrim is better than Demon's Souls, I've spent hundreds after hundreds of hours in that world, one of my absolute top games.

And Elden Ring is best.

Hey guys I'm really cool, I played this game called Dork Souls it's really obscure and hard you probably couldn't manage to even look at screenshots of it without fainting.

Voted for 3rd option since both games are top notch, if only we got proper sequels of similar high quality we would all be happy campers :)

I love Dark Souls meanwhile I dislike Skyrim so it's an easy vote for me. Played Skyrim years later after launch and being praised so much I was expecting something special. Disappointingly I found the game being mediocre. For me the intro is the only thing that is great about it.

They're very different games. So different that it's hard to compare the two and say which one is "best".

Its not even my favorite souls, but I still prefer 100x over the bug infested disguised as as a feature Skyrim.

It's not even a contest.
Dark Souls is up there with my favorite games of all time, while conversely I don't particularly like Skyrim even when compared to some pretty average/low budget titles in the genre (i.e. I'd replay Might & Magic X over Skyrim any day).

And no, for the record I don't think that throwing a pile of reskins at it through modding is enough to salvage the faulty foundation of the game.

Dark Souls1 was my first and last souls like game ever. This game made me so angry like never a game before. Cant get my head around that so many people like this gameplay loop where you basically run to a boss hundreds times and everytime he kills you, you start from the very beginning of the level and do all the shit you have done already multiple times before over and over again. I mean...yeah..I understand the "git gud" part of it...but I am just too old for this shit. These games are just not fun for me...not at all. They are more like work....uggh.

So easy choice here...Skyrim. Even if i think both games are completely different games. Apples and oranges. 🤷‍♂️

i liked to play elder scrolls obliveon on the 360, but then played demon souls on the ps3, for a couple of months until i finished it, then went back to elder scrolls and finally realised what a huge piece of buggy shit it was with combat having the depth of just flapping your arms until an enemy dies, infact i had a hard time playing ANY rpg after demon souls because they all where like, shit. and thats been pretty much the case until today, FROM owns them all

Skyrim VR is amazing. But Dark Souls is crazy good too.
I like them both, but they are not the same type of game so it's hard to compare.
