Rise of the Ronin debuts on PC with low number of players and many negative reviews

60fps/1080p no drops and no noticeable stutter in gameplay (some in cutscenes, but nothing horrific)
I get around 90fps uncapped. Also the game seems to apply physics/animation based on framerate. So if you choose 120fps, make sure you can stay there, otherwise it feels like you're moving in slow motion. Locking to 60fps fixed that.

standard/high setting combination 6700k/3060ti.

Seems pretty ok.

If people are trying to run this max settings with rt on something similar to what I have, then sorry, you're a retard.

There is definitely something wrong in their engine with volumetric fog/lighting. Modding that stuff usually gets their recent releases running pretty well. There is something that is unmoddable though... their cutscenes. If I understand correctly they are compiled in 4k in real time with customized character and that causes them to lag and hang. Would be great if they could sort that out.

seems similar to what I experienced in wo long fallen dynasty with my 3070 at 1080p (also used standard preset in that game, it seemed to run fine compared to how much complaints it also had)
I wonder if this is the same situation

I also have to say it may depend on if you use a gamepad or not. I notice that some games are really OPTIMIZED with gamepad in mind (slower turns). on mouse you can instantly turn the camera and some engines can't seem to handle that well. do you play with a gamepad like me?

could be that the game is more prone to stutters with mouse gameplay

Janky is not a synonym for "runs like shit" you know.

And yeah sure, if people want to spend their money on shitty products then more power to them. I'll keep thinking they are dumb.
for me janky is synonym with a lot of great ideas, sometimes very ambitious ones, that you won't see elsewhere, at the expense of the technological side of the project.

Shadow of the colossus is very janky for example, but a tremendous game. Rise of the Ronin is very janky in the best ways possible.
Plus I could play 60 fps at launch on ps5 with performance mode. the game isn't a looker so why should i care to play in quality mode anyway? Why are pc bros crying that they can play the game with every graphical settings on ultra ? Did they try to turns those pretty sliders in the option menu, since they are the only ones to have them, just to see what the game was about ? Do they take all the games they play as masturbatory benchmark ? Do they feel unadequate when their machine can't run the games at max graphic settings ? Do you guys all have tiny peepees ??

Also, it is not because you say something is shit that it is.

tl ; dr :
PC bros : " you don't understand, pc is freedom, you can modulate everything, have graphical options up the butt, etc..
also pc bros : " Why does this game is not playable at ultra everything settings ??? If you cannot max everything out it has to be shit and i won't ever play it."

fart town usa fart town usa My man thanks very much for the Gold !!

On PS5, the game was poorly optimized and probably was more ambitious than what the company could do.

This is their first open world game. Tecmo Koei isn't and never has been a AAA studio.
Of course it was going to be janky, with technical issues while not even being incredibly looking.

Honestly, the real mess was the PS5 pricing a year ago. This game should have never been sold at 80$.
The game was just not up to the quality standards (which might be a bit too high nowadays, but it's another subject...) of PS5 games, especially with Sony Xdev support. So the price should have been 60$-70$.

I'd argue that games today have enormous budget (50x to 100x more than games from 90 to 2000 era), and despite that, games are costing what, 15 to 20% more than this era ? How is it fair for devs ?

On PC, the official price is 49$, and you can get it for 35$ from reseller.
At this price, I don't think it's a scam, even if it could be better from a technical pov. Patches are coming, and it's very playable and already much better than the PS5 version.

I have a 3080 12gb, i5 12600k and play the game on DLSS Ultra Performance at 4K on ultra settings, I have rare dips between 50-60 fps, and most of the time I'm in the 70-80.

True I didn't think about that. I started with pad but I'll try m/kb for a bit and see if it feels worse. I get you though, I've played games like that.

So it actually feels pretty decent with mouse. I would prefer to play this way but I don't feel like learning my keybinds. Should have started that way.

Changing the preset to ”High" or "Standard" may resolve these issues.

Changing "FPS Limit" to 60 may resolve this issue.

Did anyone buy the game and try it, or are we all just reading complaints from people who haven't played the game? Mortismal said he hasn't had any glaring issues so far.

I got it for PS5 at launch. I haven’t played it a ton yet but I like that it’s a souls-like with difficulty options. I play it on easy. Don’t want every game to be frustrating.

For sure. I have it too for PS5.

I'm just curious about impressions from PC players because I genuinely want to see gameplay impressions. If the game really is that much of a mess on PC, that's a shame. But it's like the discussions during the PS5 launch, plenty of outspoken non-players of the game bitching about horse animations but little discussion of the actual game. It's just a bummer as someone who simply wants to have a decent discussion about the game itself. Something that is increasingly rare on Gaf these days with most games!

Also, the game gets balls easy once you become familiar with maximizing gear and all the buffs you have at your disposal. You can get OP as shit and brute force your way through anything. Parrying is entirely optional, it plays more like a real-time combat JRPG once you understand all the advantages you have. Hard to describe but nothing like a Soulslike at its core.

Also, this is the game that FFXVI should have been. It's the Action JRPG that Square couldn't pull off IMO.

Setting is good and the Combat is also good but apparently it just turns into yet another Ubisoft-y open world slop soon after the prologue, not helped by poor optimization

Toots Toots that was the stupidest thing I've read in a while, feel free to put me on ignore or whatever because I'm doign the same mate.
That is the stupidest thing your read in a while ?
Go to my post history you'll find hundreds of posts more stupid than that, sometimes even on purpose :messenger_smirking:

Also i'd never ignore someone here, if i feel really mad about anyone or anything i just log off for a while.
Anyone could say something funny or insightful once in a while, why would you deprive you of that ?

Not at all. There is lots of icons on the world map and you can play the game like a ubisoft checklist simulator but the idea here is that there are two warring factions and all of the main and side missions can be played from either side (you can even replay any mission to change its outcome after lets say 1/3 of the game). You meet interesting characters, choose whichever side you want, fight for the glory of eternal Japan, see the outcome, and go back in time to change everything to save your favorites characters.
There is only one flaw to the whole system :
you cannot save the portuguese geisha
