Tesla got lucky being perceived as a tech company with gigantic valuations. At one time, I think Tesla was worth more than all car companies combined at $500/share or whatever it was at. Any losses they incurred for years can be easily covered selling some shares. If this company was more modestly priced at share value and market cap to Ford who has always been a steady performer that even pays a dividend, Tesla wouldnt exist today.

Trump and Musk are simply going scorched earth on everything from tariffs to firing people. And if it has to be rescinded that's ok. Nobody is expecting to bat 1.000. But if they can bat .500 it's better than batting zero.
There's so much gov waste (in any country I bet) it's laughable what's been uncovered in only 2 months.
The best one lately is there's a multi year contract for a company to water 8 plants at the pentagon or somewhere. Price of contract: $50,000. Musk cancelled it and said people at the building will water it themselves.
If Musk and gang can find such blatant silly crap in 2 months, just imagine what the tally will be after 4 years. Its insane how nobody cares at gov too. No company in the world would do such a stupid contract unless there was obvious code of conduct/bribery shenanigans going on. At least the key difference is a company is private and only has so much money. And people get paid more and bonuses the better the company does. Gov is taxpayer money, unlimited printing money, unlimited debt, so nobody ever gives a shit.

And I honestly don't really care if it's Tesla getting the deals, because the previous admin prob gave other companies similar deals. Don't be naive in thinking Trump and Musk are the first ones doing this, Biden also road a GE car I think and gave contracts. They all do it.

Musk has had federal contracts for years. It's not like these armored teslas is the first deal ever with the US.
What people dont like is Trump and gang finding lots of wasteful spend in only 2 months and showing the public how stupid these costly deals have been going on forever. Most people would agree that cutting back on dumb spend is a good thing to do. It's just a matter of people putting in time to dig into the weeds and uncover stupidity.
But some people who dont like Trump will always go against what he does. And some people will always trend to the grab bag side of the spectrum and if some people or businesses can scam the gov (or person or business) for buckets of money it's all good.
This is actually the wrong way to go about saving money and building wealth. Materiality should come into play when addressing risks and spending time on low hanging fruit is just a costly distraction because time is money. If a professional comes to your table with something the security guard could conclude, then you aren't getting professional work.
Playing rat catcher is also a small part of the story because the best recommendations are the ones that prevent losses before they occur, so the majority of the time would focus on strengthening the regulations, controls and oversight; the very thing politicians include as "red tape" be cause it holds their spending accountable.
Unfortunately, real work is less of an entertaining performance than wielding chainsaws and trying to impress people about $1,300 coffee cups on a multi-trillion dollar organization.

Most of the big private companies are probably still overstaffed despite laying off 10s of thousands. The IRS has almost 85k employees. If you seriously think that they're working anywhere near efficiency, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.
And key to the conversation around taxes. Pretending like these things exist in a vacuum (conveniently unless it's legislation being passed through congress with a title relating to A and content relating to Z1-U90) is ridiculous.
People skimping out on taxes is the least of the problem. 1 trillion dollars is being spent on debt interest, and the deficit is still at most of 2 trillion. Hate to say it bud, no amount of black market activity, offshore tax havens (which is called "evasion", but it's literally allowed by law, just have to spend a lot of money on accountants and lawyers to do it) is going to solve 3 trillion dollars every year on the year. If it did, even partially, the current mentality in government would just be to just take it as permission to spend and print more.

But in the post you quoted, what I'd done there is pointed out that Elon Musk is apparently using the same strategy in the government as he used with Twitter, a disastrous strategy that saw the value of the company fall through the floor.
I was doing a bit of a joke when I said the president would want help from him, since most people might pause and ask if he's really able to improve efficiency without massive economic damage being a possible outcome.

It's just not true. There are real life, measurable material impacts that people are upset about. You can agree or disagree but suggesting people are faking being outraged is absolutely absurd. Domestic terrorism is starting to slowly simmer. Social security staff and offices are being shuttered. Tens of thousands of people have been fired, illegally. Thousands of poor and vulnerable people have already lost health care with Medicaid cuts. Evilore highlighted a veteran that's likely to die because his clinical cancer trials just got shut off abruptly, illegally. The stock market is tanking more every day. What are you even talking about? Do you think Canada and Greenland are performatively outraged? Or Germany? Or Poland?

I don't think it is in this case, and I'm being 100% honest. For a start, I think there's no problem whatsoever in a president being seen in a car made by a US based company. Here in the UK, it made the news when the Prime Minister stopped using a UK manufactured car a couple of years ago, which had always been the case before. It's just sensible to give local firms the seal of approval / to not slight them by using an import or whatever, imo.
I also don't think it'd be such a big deal for the US government to use Teslas, if they met the criteria needed.
This isn't the same thing though, Trump was literally standing there with a price list in his hand. It wasn't just an endorsement, it was a salesman at work!
As for Musk, I think any government that handed over so much power to someone who is so erratic, and has some real questions over his motivations for taking a role in government would get pushback, from all sides. I think it's unrealistic to try and divide people into two sides, the left and the right. There'll be loads of people you'd consider on the right who think that Musk and Trump are terrible for the country and will be despairing at the self inflicted harm being done as witnessed on the stock market, the international tensions and the questions over their loyalty to other states.

I gave you the numbers with the implication that the total expenditure of the IRS is not even one percent of the total budget. Relative to how important the IRS is, that looks like a good deal.
