Donkey Kong Bananza (aka Banjo Kongzoie) - July 17, 2025

SNES-Donkey is the only one I accept. This isn't him. I'll just call him Downkey instead in my head.

While I still think Bananza looks pretty good, I too would like to see more of Rare era style.

They've nailed Rare's aesthetic here at least (far more than Retro ever did)…

Hoping this is the aesthetic of the first world before you venture off to the more strange looking places.

I think it looks great, and I'm excited that a franchise other than Zelda or Mario can get a big release like this too. It was about time Nintendo utilized all their IP more effectively.

This looks goofy as hell and I'm so ready for it!

The expressive animation and colorful worlds already had my interest, but the gameplay? A crazy collectathon with environmental destruction sounds bananas xD

Anyway, feels good to finally have a new 3D DK !!! It's been 26 years of a long wait :messenger_dizzy:
This doesn't even register as a new "3D DK" for me. Horrid character design, blocky environments and an utterly foreign gameplay concept to the franchise, this looks more like Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts with a DK skin DLC.
This is looking like a step up from Donkey Kong 64.

Hot take: no, it's not.

Yet they will charge $70 for the game.

And?

How many games cost $70 and are pure trash gameplay wise?

I play games

The idea that Nintendo should charge games at a low cost because of graphics, WTF is this? We have to go back to Wii days for this sort of argument and you either accepted it 20 years ago or not but such a strange comment.

That's the only part of the trailer I think looks really good. That's what I want, classic DKC aesthetics but in 3D. Sadly it looks like most of the game is not that at all.

When you play this, think of how people are playing Assassins Creed Shadows and saying it is the pinnacle of PC gaming.

Remember the people dissing on this masterpiece on here have been bragging about how AC Shadows is so great and looks so good and get excited about how well it did.

Remember what their other opinions are and remember what Nintendo games are and feel sorry for them.

Don't hate the haters here. They will never know the warmth of a good Nintendo game. Count your blessings.

Yeah I don't get how people can put entire game's worth purly on graphics, I played many games that were "technical marvel" but played like crap, it felt like wasted money and no amount tech made the game any better.

I was musing what game this reminded me of, and then it hit me: it's friggin' Knack! They share the same lack of coherency in the visuals, just a junkyard of miscellaneous shit. Though Knack looks slightly better

You had me at Banjo Kazongie. Sadly I love my children who are asleep now so I need to wait until the morning to watch the direct 😂 3D Kong is ultimate tier for me tho.

I hate the DK redesign with a burning passion. He looks like he's on shrooms and needs to be in drug rehab. I do love having 3d donkey kong back though i admit.

that visual style makes me ill, absolutely hate it, and feels like I see this particular look across an increasing number of games. It's hard to describe, but is a combination of the world designs and palettes.

I wasn't expecting this but it looks awesome! It's like they know exactly how to separate it from being a Mario clone. Day one for sure.

It's the "HDR" look. No contrast and raised black levels.

Edit; an example:

IQ is part of it, but also this kind of environmental & visual design puts me off:

it just looks like random junk everywhere; kind of like No Man's Sky worlds, which I also find universally repulsive, and some other non-procedural games that do it.

There's also the ugly haze and fog, the colors look like there's some kind of filter on top and there's a complete lack of contrast.

It's really bad.

Hardware does not magically change Nintendo's very conservative strategy and approach to graphics. No, they won't unlock a $300M budget to make a TLoU 2 high fidelity Donkey Kong
It's a rather niche game i would think. But i hope a new 3D Mario will look better than Bananza, although the game might be good.
