If this is the Mario team then no Mario coming anytime soon.
Does not look at all like the Mario team, this is something else entirely.

EDIT: I can certainly imagine some of the same staff, given all their projects and overlaps. But I seriously doubt you'll see Koizumi and the other heads of Odyssey and other recent Mario games involved in this.

I like enough things about the gameplay footage to be interested in playing it, but yikes that DK redesign is brutal. Probably Shiggy's idea. He looks retarded and his "fur" looks like feathers. How did we go from Tropical Freeze's model to this? I know it's closer to his "classic arcade" look but as a millenial who grew up playing DKC, Mario Kart and Smash Bros. I barely recognize the character in the trailer as DK. Bummer to think that this is his new look from now on, oh well.
The gameplay and music better slap.

Wow what the hell?

Reminds me of steamworld dig almost, seems a lot more indepth for the destruction that I thought

Wow, I really underestimated how far they’d take the destruction..

That’s interesting, very curious to see more of this now. I wonder if you can just keep going straight down? Looks like it.

Hardware does not magically change Nintendo’s very conservative strategy and approach to graphics. No, they won’t unlock a $300M budget to make a TLoU 2 high fidelity Donkey Kong
People should learn that what Nintendo aims for is to impress kids in ages 3 to 10. And for those colors and nice design is most important. I was the same at that age, and still am even though I do have a slightly more refined taste now in my 30's

David only composed DKC, not DK64. So this makes sense.

Grant Kirkhope did 3D DK back in the day. I wonder if he is back, although I think it will be handled in-house this time.

He's really expressive, it's well done. But his neutral expression looks moronic, like they wanted to turn him into somehow more "kids friendly".
Funny that. Back when Miyamoto was making his breakout game, the other games of the time was all about violence and killing things. According to Wikipedia he designed Donkey Kong as "nothing too evil or repulsive".

So all in all it always had been kid friendly from the start.

This all comes out during the summer, which is great.

I will have to get that Switch 2 preorder in. Not certain if I will go through Walmart or straight through Nintendo.

Walmart may be better.

Agreed. More exciting than a 3D Mario in my view and the gameplay looks fantastic. I can imagine my kids having an absolute field day with these mechanics.

For me not having a big 3D Mario game looming over its shoulder really gives Donkey Kong a chance to shine and have the king of limelight it’s not had since 1994.

Of course the game itself needs to be great.

I like the terrain deformation. I also like that this means an influx of monkey memes, which was great during the Godzilla Vs. King Kong era

It doesn't really look like a B&K type game though :pie_thinking:

It looks fun but honestly it looks more like a pseudo sequel to odyssey just using DK lineage instead. (this is a good thing)

Yeah. It was a great idea to do an spiritual successor to Mario Odyssey instead of a direct sequel.

That way, they can just make a whole new Mario game later.

Nintendo always go a little above and beyond with their games. This one lets you see the whole level in 3D and where you punched the ground.

Tears of the Kingdom had the crazy, huge underworld.

Watched the Treehouse footage and it looks fun, but I do hope there is a wide variety of locations because the cave area is nice and all but surely there's a jungle location too, right? And just other outdoor locations.

Who's making this....Nintendo in house, or Retro?
I’d be shocked if this isn’t the Super Mario Odyssey team. Looks like an evolution of the Odyssey game engine.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they even include an Easter egg that lets us visit New Donk City somehow, and smash it to pieces.

Nintendo, specifically the Odyssey team, I believe. Someone in one of the preview videos said Koizumi was standing by watching people play the demo.

As I said in the Treehouse thread, this really doesn't feel like a DK game at all. It feels like a terrain destruction demo that they decided to put DK in.

Then someone else said that this should have been a Wario game, and YES, that makes so much sense! Smashing through rocks and mining for gold and shit is exactly what Wario would do. The art style and atmosphere also feel more Wario than DK. Everything does. Wouldn't surprise me if this originally actually was a Wario game, but then they decided that DK would sell better. I just can't believe that they decided to make a 3D DK and this is what they came up with. It doesn't make sense.

(I'm not saying this won't be a good game. Just that it's a really fucking weird DK game.)

From the official description of the game it all takes place underground, on deeper and deeper levels. Very weird.
