my only problem with this was....this looked similar to MK World. I don't know if I want everything to be open world now. Trend is not always your friend.

edit: ok looking interesting now.

This looks super fun! I’m more excited for this than Mario Kart World but I will end up getting both at launch.

Same engine for sure

I'm hard predicting more Kongs are playable. First 3D DK game since DK64? The gangs got to be all here!
But besides Chunky, I can't really see any of the other Kongs being able to destroy and lift and throw shit like DK.

I think other Kongs will be featured, but they won't be playable.

It almost feels insulting to compare this game to Banjo-Kazooie. This is a Sakurai (?) game. Did I see that right? That man is pretty much insta-buy with whatever he releases.

No, Sakurai is directing Kirby Air Ride. He is the director of the original Gamecube Air Ride.

Some of the art on the website has DK in his full naked glory. However most shots and artwork contain the overalls. The overalls are a cool touch but I can't imagine they are a permanent design change. I hope they are not.

The minor helmet is really interesting. It evokes some Rare art in the Donkey Kong Country manual where DK wore a similar hat in the mines. There are unused sprites in the game with the same hat I believe. Then there is that absolute classic Donkey Kong Country jungle aesthetic complete with arrow barrels. Looks like we'll have a few homages to Rare. Hopefully Retro's settings or mechanics as well.

This is looking like a step up from Donkey Kong 64.

The coolest surprise of the Direct, and I've been hoping if we got another Donkey Kong they'd go 3d again.

The level of destruction looks like it will add some nice approaches to level design.

Watched this again, yeah, sold.
While graphics are a let down, the game itself looks amazing.
Looking forward to emulate this in a decade.

Posts about graphics strike me as odd. What do you want the game to look like? Nintendo go for artstyle, and this looks like it runs well. 2 most important visual boxes ticked. Everything else is gameplay.

This looks great, I love how he's just wrecking the place and smashing through walls. I appreciate how the DK games keep trying new characters, but I'd still like to see a few faces return as NPCs.

Watching the trailer again, I really do like the aesthetic of the areas that seem to be above ground. Looks really inviting. The underground worlds, now that I understand what they are, they are a little more pleasant to my eyes.

Donkey Kong looks to have his standard roll attack, a side ways variation of it and it appears he can roll jump in mid air.

There are a few ostrich characters, possibly friendly NPC's and one of them is dressed very uniquely and looks to be feminine. Maybe that's Expresso? DK gave her a high five like they've been buddies for ages.

And then these stone statues, upon closer inspection they are carved like reptiles. When Donkey destroys them there are clearly golden crocodile skeletons underneath. Would be neat if they were Kremling related.

There are things going on in this that are original to video games. Really the only 'new' game in the presentation.

Graphics while great seem a little convoluted in the way Odyssey's were too. Not easy on the eye. The worlds aren't very artistically appealing unfortunately.

Looks cool.

Honestly, it's pretty cool and interesting.

However, I wonder about the number of platformers. After all, a new Mario will soon be presented... but I'm not surprised by its absence: releasing a new Mario and MK at the same time meant risking a clash of sales between the two. A Donkey will do, then.

It actually makes me wonder what the status of the Mario platformer is. I would have bet 100% on it being holiday, but now I'm not so sure. This sure seems like the same team that would be making that game..

I could see Mario being more of a departure than initially thought, or further away.

DK could also be much more "action" focused than whatever they're cooking with Mario. They did refer to it as an action platformer in the show.

It's true that it looks pretty basic... let's hope it's not too basic. Will the next Mario be so bold as to forget its status as a platformer? I don't think so. On the other hand, like MK, it could be a mega-open-world.

It looks very much like a Switch game. Not bad per se, but people were expecting more.
I don’t know to me it looked gorgeous with destructible environments….then again GAF has crazy expectations when it comes to graphics.

There's no destruction physics etc from what I've seen, you're basically just digging through material. It's cool, but nothing new and not very demanding.

Is it crazy to expect a generational leap in graphics after 8 years? Nothing that was shown today was anything close to that, it was mostly "Switch Pro" stuff.

legitimately the most interesting game of the direct, depending on how much they make use of the destructivity as a gameplay device
