funny part is, if the tariffs don't increase price, people will think $450/500 is a deal now and that they dodged a bullet

maybe this is Nintendo playing 4d chess

1. Announce high price
2. Consumer bitch about price
3. Delay preorders and cause speculation of a tariff price increase
4. Actually sell the damn thing for $450/500 "despite tariffs"
5. Consumers praise Nintendo for being consumer friendy

Anyone want to make an avatar bet, that it will NOT launch on June 5th in the US?

I don't think it will, i also think it is possible it doesn't launch anywhere in June.

Console sales for Sony, Xbox and Nintendo may be cooked!
There ist other Markets than US. With more relieable trading partners at the moment..

Fascinating twist to see who the real communists turned out to be

lol My wife literally told me i dont need eggs a couple of days ago because she was tired of paying $9 per 18 pack.

Thats the kind of energy im getting from this tweet. it's video games today. it will be Cakes and Crumble Cookies tomorrow. God knows what else in a couple of months if sanity doesn't prevail soon.

at least PS3 was pushing the envelope, its wasnt a glorified tablet

I don't think it being a tablet has anything to do with it.

Expect all (new) hardware to be higher priced, if the PS5 Pro was releasing in September 2025 and not September 2024, it would probably have been higher than $699.

This isn't a black or white situation. Its not that Trump's plan is bad and the alternative is great otherwise you wouldn't have Trump. I don't know if tariffs will reindustrialise the economy. If it was that simple Germany would be putting a 100% tariff on electric cars from China. What I do know is that the alternative has been sacking everyone, moving every possible job overseas and replacing who is left with machines. Yes, things are cheaper but its irrelevant if you don't have a job. There is no third option. So its a choice between those two. I live in the UK and the steel works where I live is shutting down and 16,000, jobs are going. They aren't buying a Switch at any price.

I'd tell him to turn off his technology with that mindset but it's too much fun watching him dig a hole of debt he'll never climb out of.

If you all want to let the President know how you really feel, just @ him on Twitter/X. Trump loves engagement on Twitter/X, so be a real gamer and tell him how terrible his stupid tariffs truly are.

I'm sure the interns managing his account will appreciate staying busy for the weekend 👍

Who said no one needs the US economically. It is a large Market. But seeing how unrelieable of a partner it is right now it is probably for the best to ignore it. The USD is the trading currency of the world right now because the US is largly importing from all over the world. This leads to other countrys having intresst in owning USD. With this gone it could potentielly lead to loosing its value as world currency. Also unemploymen Rates in the US where 4,1% as of February good luck in producing all needs on your own. Especially while driving a hughe portion of Labor force out of the country. But Yeah AI and Robots will save you /s

Lmao, people have been waiting for the past two or three years for a Switch 2 announcement, but Nintendo was happy to ride the Switch until the wheels fell off. There's no reason they couldn't have released this last year and avoided all this drama.

Hahah gamers suddenly care about politics.

They'd rather take the worst the dems have to offer rather than have to deal with MUH VIDYAGEAMZ BEING CAUGHT UP IN A TRADE WARRRRR.
Lol at thinking this just will effect video games. Prices across the board will skyrocket and the fed will probably increase rates which will increase inflation to avoid stagflation.

Look at the markets, it's far from just Nintendo's stock that is going down lmao.

The top 1% own more than 50% of the stock.
How Many Americans Own Stock? About 162 Million -- but the Wealthiest 1% Own More Than Half

The top 10% own 93% of the stocks.

The wealthiest 10% of Americans own 93% of stocks even with market participation at a record high

Imagine caping for Wall Street....

From what I read the tariffs are reciprocal and are set at half of what other countries impose on U.S. goods, with the direct intent of getting other countries to lower their own barriers.

"From what you read"....come on, it's been proven to be untrue. Even by multiple sources. Conservative ones too.. You can choose not to believe it, but the data is out there. It's based on the very absurd argument that a rich country having trade deficits is inherently bad (because wealthy countries can afford to purchase a lot more shit than poorer ones, obviously), regardless of any real tariffs involved.

Btw, several of those countries already had either free trade agreements or equivalent trade deals with the U.S., which makes this even more nonsensical.

the only thing this will achieve is more counter tariffs by others
everything is made outside the US
this applies to everything not only the switch

I can't see it.

They pretty much have to raise prices imo. These tariffs are massive and launch window is when margins are the most thin + you're selling through the quickest.

It's just absolute shit timing.

The only consideration would be if the units are already sitting in USA warehouses. If that's the case, maybe you sell through what's there (since you in theory already paid tariffs on it?) and then just don't really ship much in the meantime.

Social media has conditioned people to choose team sports politics above all else. Including their own best interests and logic. I'm reading commentators and fellow politicians over the past 24 hours being like "Yeah, prices could go up and it could impact us financially and economically, but just trust him." Basically you have people foregoing logic, reason, and values in the name of some arbitrary loyalty. It's so bizarre. I'll never get it. And everyday people who do it and who've never met the guy. Being so loyal to a dude you've never met in your life and who doesn't give a shit about you. Not just Donny, put him aside for a second. Doing that for any politician is just fucking weird. You see rallies and you have people there who have their faces painted and they're carrying signs and they're cheering like it's your own child playing college football. It's so crazy how much time, passion, and loyalty everyday people dedicate to a bunch of middle aged to elderly folks who couldn't give two shits about you, and that you've never met and will never meet in your life.

That won't be happening. The US is negotiating from an insane position of strength - it is the largest consumer market by a country mile - 2.5 times more than the next largest market which is China, $18.8 trillion to China's $7 trillion. Americans buy a lot of shit.

Yeah, now they'll be paying more for all of that shit.

Good thing we "kept politics out of gaming".

Actually it has a chance to become a stagflation. If spending and economy is going down and inflation is up because of the tariff it's gonna be bad.

Your probably right. But I would like to see the World react with a big FU Trump and calling his bluff (probably who knows right now).

Just like the Hero of the Democratic People's Republic of America, Elon Muskovich
Everyone should sleep on carpet like me, comrade, and always work. You must have many kids, but if you spend time with them instead of working, comrade, you are weak. Bring them to work to work with you, they are of working age at 4.

How could the tariffs be baked in when they weren't announced until after the direct

People were blaming the current price on Tariffs.
I guess that was bullshit.

Nintendo moved production from China to Vietnam to try thinking that the tariffs would atleast be lower, but they clearly were expecting the Tariffs to be a idiotically high as they ended up.

so i wouldnt be so quick to say the tariffs did not affect the pricing.
