Do some people know anything about Nintendo's history? About Nintendo's hardships during N64 and Gamecube days?

Dude, Nintendo was doomed twice and survived both times, and didn't have the money stored like they have today.

"But Nintendo is doomed because it charges 50 dollars more that they should have..." I'm mean, seriously? My take - One year from now, no one will remember the hysteria regarding the console price, or the games price increase.

It wouldn't have mattered when Nintendo launched because the tariffs would've ended up happening anyway. And then you'd have a situation where Nintendo would be raising the prices shortly after launch, which isn't much better than raising them prior to launch.

These tariffs were always going to create a bad situation regardless when the system launched, and I think Nintendo were (still are?) hoping to avoid a situation like with PS5, where the initial launch was very well but then lockdowns, slight recession & shortages kicked in screwing up post-launch momentum somewhat.

They're still manufacturing Switch for at least another year seems like, so yeah it'll likely pass PS2 in unit sales. A 25-year-old console holding onto that record is still might impressive though.

Weren't US preorders delayed due to the tariffs? If so, they aren't starting on the 9th; they'll start on another date.

And, the Canadian preorders have also just been delayed :/

Don't get me wrong, I also think they (rightfully) got some bad press for this game prices drama.
But the console isn't even out yet, and launch sales data is also generally useless.

We'll get a true feeling of how things are going by september I think.

But we're moving into a new liquidity cycle, That means money printer kicks in. That means currency is going to be worth less than what it is currently. Pretty sure this is what's being accounted for with how they've priced it all out.

If you purchased equal amount in bitcoin of what the OG Switch cost back in 2017 and kept hold you'd be sitting on around 20 grand today.

They didn't tho, they just made the stupid mistake for letting the community spread misinformation for clicks and it grew beyond control for almost a week now, but the general perception about Switch 2 very positive

I was ready to buy a Switch 2, but then I saw the direct and got all of the information. Now I am not sure I want one, yet.

Face it. We gamers are addicts. Yes, we always look for those sweet deals for cheaper games, but when that special one releases, whoosh, there goes the 90 dollars (euros for me).

I'd say WiiU was way worse than those cases... i mean, even today Ninendo could not find a reason why two separate screens exist :-D
 
Hard to say at this point.
Scalpers were always going to buy up everything at launch. There's been a lot of negativity so will have to wait and see.
 
One reason people believe this silliness is they never thought Nintendo was in a secure position to begin with. Their Nintendo hate would not let them see that. In their minds they believe that any day the whole world will wake up and realize what they've always known. In reality this is the thinking of a child.

The fuck have they done wrong? They have prices going up on certain games. The console price is neither here nor there. The voice chat function is tied to the online subscription (much like Playstation has). Bowser said that the Switch is available for people who believe the Switch 2 is too expensive, but...

Was it meant to tell me people to earn more to buy our new console cause we are arrogant? Fuck no, and everyone knows it. They have 1st party software ready on day 1 and beyond. The console is pre selling really well around the world, even selling out in certain areas for pre orders. And for fucks sake- it hasn't even come out yet! How about we let it release before you all fucking blow your stack about it?

I'm actually flabbergasted at the anti Nintendo rhetoric. Like I stated in a previous thread, The Last Of Us Part 1 remake on PS5 retails, in Australia, for $124.95 for the standard edition and $139.95 for the "deluxe edition" which equates to $74.53 USD for the standard and $83.47 USD for the deluxe edition! And all of this for a remake of a remake of a PS3 game! Yet no complaints??? Fucking spare me.

I honestly don't see myself ever buying 80-90 dollar games unless I start making substantially more money in the next few years. But that's also comming from the perspective of living in a third world contry making like 15K a year lol.

But overall, yeah it's going to be the same as always.

$70 is already too much, I might buy 4 or 5 games at launch tops this generation because of that pricing, and it's not about affordability but worth, and 99% of games aren't worth it.

I think the only game I've bought for $70 this gen has been FFXVI (which absolutely wasn't worth it, btw), and there's nothing really on the horizon I intend to buy at launch (maybe Expedition 33, but that one is actually only $50).

The older I get the less FOMO I have with games. I don't really have a problem playing most games a year later for 40-50% less (and usually in a better state than how they launched).

The biggest reason these $80 Nintendo games are a dealbreaker for me is because they don't even have proper price drops and sales.

I've bought three so far.
God of War Ragnarok, DBZ Tenkaichi and Spider-Man 2. The latter I regret.
I also bought a few others like Astro Bot at launch but I believe they were all appropriately priced, and for Astro Bot, well worth it.

Edit: I forgot I also bought Elden Ring at launch too.

They're going to be fine because they're not killing the OG switch.
They're going to keep selling OG switch consoles and studios are going to keep making games for the OG consoles.
Anyone with a user base as large as Switch isn't going to turn their platform off, ever.
Over time they can drop the price of OG Switch lower and lower adding to the user base.
As long as they make new games for OG Switch users will keep buying games.
 
The negative buzz isn't about the quality of the machine, which for most people matched or exceeded expectations (besides the usual suspects with the IQ of a shoe size).

It's about the price of games, and when it's gonna end up being 60-70 bucks like other machines anyway, it won't matter much.

With that being said, they likely won't repeat the success of the switch, and they'll probably get to 100-110 millions or a bit more when it's all said and done. A consolidation of the switch brand, rather than an expansion, which would be nigh impossible anyway.

I can kinda see it, especially if it were an adaptation of say Wind Waker. I was thinking of something along a more serious line though. Nothing grimdark, but I guess closer to a shounen anime (well, long as it were nothing like One Piece's art style).

That's why I named Madhouse & J.C Staff, and I could throw AIC in there too; they've made some of my favorite old-school fantasy anime and I just really like the visual style of those works.
