Mario Kart World uses RTAO as does CP2077. Harry Potter uses RT reflections. Current games targeting launch / launch window are going for straight resolution. DLSS patches will come later along with more visual modes much like PS5 Pro games keep improving from launch until this day.

But environment wise and open world, lighting and weather wise, this is the real deal.

I was just watching TLOUP2 PC Ultra playthrough and the gap is monumental.
I can't believe i thought TLOUSP2 looked realistic.

You should be playing this game. It's stunning. Videos, gifs and screenshots dont do it justice. I cannot stress this enough.

Yes, it may not look 10/10 all the time, but a random season change, mixed in with time of day at a gorgeous Japanese temple, or castle or a random field, and all of a sudden its the most awe-inspiring visuals ive ever seen. 50+ hours in and im still amazed.

Whats funny is that for the first 10-15 hours i was meh on the game, but i had wasted all of them in the first area with just 1-2 seasons. now i cant stop singing this game's praises.

P.S this game has the best snow dawn lighting ive ever seen. it looks legit photorealistic with the best looking snow shaders ive seen not just on the ground but also on trees. Sadly, none of the gifs or videos capture it well but i will try taking some screenshots, but PCs cant handle HDR screenshots either which makes taking photos a pain in the ass on PC.

P.P.S it also makes great use of my atmos system. A lot of games have been supporting surround sound this gen, but aside from Avatar and Returnal, not many do the ceiling audio well. This game bounces thunder off my ceiling and my entire gaming room transforms into a Japanese jungle.

I actually think ND will fake the shit out of that gameplay demo just like they did with TLOU2. they know the bar has not just been set high but obliterated and they need to do something fancy.

GG did something similar with the HFW gameplay reveal. Very carefully crafted fake mission that wasnt even in the final game. Completely made up a mission just to show off a very scripted playthrough through an area that would eventually be downgraded. The destruction was no longer as impressive and barely existed in the game outside of this demo area. The underwater lighting and level of detail was massively downgraded. Draw distance downgraded. The indirect bounce lighting was downgraded. hero lighting was downgraded. And this absolutely stunning area was straight up taken out.

And this was the gameplay demo which was already downgraded from the fake CG trailer they tried to pass off as captured on a PS5 at the PS5 reveal a year earlier.

Nike930 did a fairly extensive video on this. You can see just how much lighting was faked throughout the demo to give a more vibrant and striking look that simply cannot be replicated in the final game no matter the time of day. The game was arguably the best looking game of its time when it launched so people mostly just excused the downgrades. Still, ND will for sure fake the shit out of their gameplay trailer and this thread will be flooded with fanboys.

You can't exclude memory bandwidth from this, it's about half of PS4's and that's pretty important especially at higher resolutions. Comparing it to series s as well which has way higher bandwidth and a stronger cpu.

DF said they estimate it to be around 90-100 GB/s, (docked, less on mobile) PS4 was 180 GB/s. Metroid can run at 4k/60 because its not demanding on effects that are demanding on memory bandwidth like ssr or, high quality dynamic shadows or other things.

The thing with Sony studios was that after the E3 2005 CG Fest, they went a good 10 year rebuilding trust with gamers with nothing but gameplay reveals that were not downgraded post launch.

So when Days Gone, TLOU2, Ghost of Tsushima, HFW and Spiderman 2 were revealed, we had little to no reason to doubt them. Ratchet actually looked virtually identical if not better at launch. So did Infamous Second Son. We just assumed that the devs still had an ounce of integrity left and wouldnt pull a ubisoft come launch.

That said, I really do hope going forward, fans will have a healthy level of skepticism towards anything these lying cunts reveal. I know i will. The funny thing is that Ghost of Yotei and Intergallactic already look so underwhelming that I have zero reason to doubt that they will match those cross gen-ish visuals. Though im sure they will try to do some scummy stuff come gameplay reveal time. Especially ND.
