You'd think inflation increases would be offset by the decrease of the manufacturing costs considering the PS5's hardware is from 2018.
If modern hardware costs are really that impossible to bring down compared to how it was in previous gens then Sony and Microsoft better completely rethink how they'll go about the next gen.

I'm pretty sure MS already did, their main explanation for the existence of Series S is that they didn't think consoles would be able to go down in price this gen, so they had to secure an « affordable » SKU.

I really don't get EU price hike unless somehow tariffs went up when nobody is looking. Inflation has been going down and € has been going up.

One can't help but wonder if Sony is taking some easy € profit when they can, with Xbox basically non existing there and Switch 2 pricing higher than originally expected (still not bad in EU since that includes taxes).

very predictible. Europe are paying for US tariffs. Europe have been milked by Sony for decades to reduce US prices.

Not true. The 20% VAT is already baked into your costs. In the USA, the tax is not part of the announced retail price.

Right now, with the new worse prices, it will still only cost you 500 Euros for the disc edition.

In the USA, it's 500 dollars to buy the same model. That doesn't include tax though, which would bring it to around 540 dollars on average, give or take a few dollars depending on state.

If the EU charged a similar tax rate as the US, your 500 Euro disc edition PS5 would have cost 460 Euros.

So the REAL comparable costs are:

460 Euros for a disc PS5 in Europe
540 Dollars for a disc PS5 in USA

Stripped of taxes and VAT the actual costs are:

~415 Euros in Europe
500 dollars in USA

Looks like the USA is actually subsidizing Europe prices, offsetting your 20%+ VAT they slap on everything you buy.

It launched November 2020. So its first year ended November 2021. Second year November 2022. Third year November 2023. Fourth year November 2024. 5th year November 2025, which hasn't happened yet.
The only way Adam's numbers make sense is if we are saying its second year started January 2021, 2 months after the thing was released. Which is dumb as hell and literally nobody counts that way.
