Like releasing?
Yep, same principle as with Hi-Fi Rush (amazing game btw).

I can't imagine it being a massive FFVII/RE2-level remake if they just shadow drop it.
It's been called a remake (and not a remaster) since the start of the rumor in 2023 and it was included in Bethesda's list of undisclosed projects so IDK, it's supposedly made in UE5 with reworked combat too. But I agree it's very strange that something THIS big has been kept secret.

And as Kydd BlaZe Kydd BlaZe said they did the same thing with Ninja Gaiden. If this is a new trend at Xbox, I'm all for it tho!

I will play it as I have some nostalgia towards Oblivion. However I don't expect it to be good. They would have to update it drastically - both gameplay and game design.

Who's actually developing this? I have a hard time believing it'll be a full remake and simply shadowdropped.

Yes, it should be Morrowind, but it realistically cannot be. Oblivion is relatively easy to remake compared to Morrowind without gutting it almost completely - Morrowind is a text driven game with a massive amount of it. Considering they wouldn't release a game like that in "this day and age", we are left with the result of Oblivion, which was already voiced and therefore can be more readily done in a way that more accurately represents the original product. At least, I wouldn't likely want whatever they think a "Morrowind remake" would look like. I'm not sure I want whatever they think an "Oblivion remake" will look like - with the exception of Skyblivion - that I do want.

But let's see what we see.

Yeah I would have definitely preferred Morrowind, that game has so much potential with a remake (assuming they don't ruin the lore, characters and systems).

Oblivion, to me, just needs an HD remaster with upgraded textures, the return of the object shadows from the earlier pre-release versions, and a complete re-balancing of the progression system. Everything else in the game is adequate enough.

Absolutely, but that would be my primary concern.

And this is exactly why I believe they made this choice.

Will be very interesting if the official "remake" is shown up by Skyblivion fan remake later this year. Can't wait to see how things proceed.

Elder Scrolls is a very popular series. Seems strange to shadow drop if it is indeed more of a remake than remaster. It would probably get significant preorders as well.

Either it's very good and Microsoft are ashamed that a third party studio and non-Bethesda engine can pull it off, or it's very bad and more broken than even Bethesda could ever dream of achieving.

Touch up the character faces, push the draw distance, fix the level scaling, don't touch the soundtrack and I'm in.

If they're really looking to impress me, fix up the cave tile set variety and get Melee combat feeling more impactful.

That sure would have been a fun surprise. Thanks for nothing Grubbfuck. I get zero enjoyment or happiness but get to know a whole week early. Woo.

Serious doubt. For a franchise this renowned, I doubt there would be a shadow drop unless it is extremely barebones. For a while EVERYONE knew what Skyrim was - why wouldn't they capitalize on that?

Consider too that it would be releasing in close proximity to Avowed, which is a similar type of game.

edit: looks like I'm going to be wrong!

$70 UE port with added pronouns. Do people still have faith in anything Bethesda? Fallout 4 was the last decent release from them and still paled in comparison to FO3/NV.

Starfield was hot garbage and a step backwards in every respect. Elder Scrolls (and Fallout) are both dead. Move on already.

If true it would mean Microsoft is publishing 4 games in less than a month (on PlayStation) with Indy this week, Oblivion next week, Forza the week after and DOOM in early May, great strategy to cannibalize sales 👌

Oblivion was one of my favourite games on PS3, just let it be a competent remake running at a smooth 60 fps and I'll definitely pick it up.

Am excited!!! I just hope a trailer before dropping, I don't know otherwise it all feels so half assed, but we'll se what the final product is.

I don't miss the same dungeon layout and textures. It would be nice to see it look better than it does now. Ngl there's so much nostalgia with it back on 360, but some of it feels like an eye sore.

I'm not sure how any of this makes sense.

If the game is a simple rerelease with modern options then it's kinda useless for PC and the current BC version does the job on Xbox.

If the game is a proper remaster then it must be expensive and it would make zero sense to shadow drop it and release it at the same time as other MS games.

Now considering how bad at marketing MS is, anything is possible but it would be a shame to treat such a masterpiece like that.

I was thinking 2 high profile remakes released within 6 months seems like a heavy workload. Then I looked it up and saw they had 4200 employees.

That and this isn't a recent project. Reportedly this has been in development since 2020, 2021 or so, and per that big Bethesda leak that happened around the FTC trials, initially it was penned to release by the end of Fiscal 2022 (Calendar 2023 maybe? ), so it's already delayed internally. That leak also said TES VI was scheduled for Fiscal '24 and we know that shit ain't happening :(

Hoping for improved combat and since its a new dev some other new wrinkles to the formula too. A shadow drop for a big series like this is an interesting tactic i fuck wit it.
