Oblivion Remaster Release date Accidentally Leaked by XBOX Support, Coming to Gamepass on Day one, April 21st, 2025.

Show some gameplay. Not sold on the screens yet.

certainly hard to show gameplay video for an unannounced game.

Burying this is a shadow drop, with no event, no build-up, on a Monday after a long weekend, should tell you how much confidence the company has in this product. I'd be very dubious until people are actually playing it and telling us how they screwed it up.

It's a remaster of a very successful, very well rated game. There's also no urgency to release the game in a poor state, since their release cadence is also quite packed. I expect it to be good.

Feel free to wait, though.

Bummer to see Microsoft go out of their way to bury Expedition 33 who went into business with them.

Personally, I'd rather play the promising new game than the fresh coat of paint on an old boring game that's likely to still have aggressive enemy level scaling.

Really hoping Expedition 33 can get near 90 metacritic or else they will be in trouble.

How the level scaling is handled will make or break this remaster.

And I'm with you, I'm gonna check out Expedition 33 before diving into this. If for no other reason than to give them time to work out the inevitable jank.

I think Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be okay, there's definitely an audience that will prefer playing it over Oblivion.

The original release date rumor for Oblivion was June, so they've moved it forward for whatever reason if that's the case (perhaps another shadowdrop for the Xbox Showcase).

If the date is true, it's a little sad they didn't drop it before Easter as we get a 4-day weekend here.
That date is the last day of the Easter break.

It's a Remaster because it looks like they didn't change anything but only refurbished the graphics. RE Remake did much more than that. Meaning, don't expect any additional quests or dungeons in this Oblivion release.
To add to this: the halo ce and 2 anniversaries are remasters for this exact reason.

New graphics on top of the same old engine, remake implies it was rebuilt from the ground up

The RE games, Dead Space '23, Demon Souls for PS5, pokemon lg/fr, hg/ss, or/as, bd/sp, halo ce unreal, these are examples of games being remakes

I see that as a proof of concept for the next TESVI; you use UE5 for graphics and you keep the Creation Engine for the Bethesda formula. This remaster might be the proof of concept and it was good enough to release it. If it's the case, perhaps TESVI is not that far after all. It will keep us waiting because Starfield isn't good enough for that (I still play Skyrim on my Steam Deck).

This is such a Capital G Gamer moment, oblivion is truly a must play experience and it seems to be remembered that way, this is celebration. Hope nothing stupid shows up about the game now.

I wonder if it's pc and Xbox only out the gate or ps5 too.
That seems very unlikely.
It's not a new game. And there is already a Playstation version. So it will probably release on PS5 on Monday, too. Although it might not be available on PS Plus.

I cannot imagine this will be any good with it being released like this. It has to be a massive mess. Shadow drop? More like shadow dump.

Yup, leaks are point less.
I think we are getting best of both worlds right now, we don't know enough to be pissed off, but we know enough to be hyped that its coming soon. So its the Honeymoon period of the product can last till launch. The fact the screenshot are 1999 forum quality bring out the Imagination of it all.

I still dont think this will be good.
Why?

1. Shadow dropped does not inspire any confidence. Hi-Fi Rush was the exception.

2. Virtuous is doing the port doesnt inspire a ton of confidence.

3. Unreal Engine 5. Need I say more?

I will happily be wrong.

This support is just a simple AI bot. ChatGPT/Co-Pilot simply echoes the content it finds credible on the internet. Welcome to the beautiful world of AI.

How a corporation produces fake news about its own products in 3 simple steps: Internet -> AI -> Internet
Nothing to do with the corp. making fake news rather corp.'s using AI and leveraging its capabilites incorrectly and the never ending realization that people have no understanding of how AI chat bots work.

I'm in for this if true and releases on that date. Sorry Expedition 33, you will have to wait.

Strange since I've been on an ES kick recently with ESO and replaying modded Skyrim. It's just fate, I can feel it.

- Ninja Gaiden II Black says up yours ;)

- Microsoft has literally done nothing wrong here. They haven't even announced the game or even acknowledged the screens. For all we know it's some mod someone made.
The AI chatbot uses an aggregate of info posted online. So if there's a lot of incorrect rumors out there, it will take the consensus of those articles and spit out the same info. The april 21st date was said by some leaker and a bunch of "journalists" have reported that. That's where the chatbot is giving its info from.

Oblivion had faults, but it also had some amazing quest lines.

The Dark Brotherhood quest lines is probably my favourite in the game and some of the best Bethesda has produced. Can't wait to jump back in.

This feels too concrete to be fake
Impossible to be fake at this point. Screenshots on the developer site, url hidden on xbox website, customer support spoke of April 21th. Perhaps it won't be a shadow drop next Monday (I still think it will be a shadow drop of a TESVI reveal) but the Oblivion remaster can't be fake at this point.

The best thing about it shadow dropping is that there will be no bullshit pay $90 for day -3. Or at least, I hope not lol!

Shame it leaked. Would have blown up the internet and been extremely fun. We gained nothing by knowing early and lost a fun party atmosphere.
Ok but isn't this also true of literally anything tho? What have we ever gained from leaks other than building hype and typically/always being disappointed? 🤔

Prepare to be disappointed, shadow drop of something this big?
Could mean it is more of a remaster than a remake, Microsoft didn't want to be outdone by Skyblivion so they quickly greenlit a quick remaster of Oblivion.
The fact that it's an outside studio + Unreal Engine means I won't get my hopes up.

To be fair, who in their right mind would do what the leaker did? Literally it's the last thing I would think about doing unless I'm constantly looking for some slippery dev lol 😂

The original leaker posted the info on Reddit, their account was over a decade old, and that was their first ever post. Could be a deliberate leak to start the marketing cycle, but it could be a lot of things - like a surprise TESVI trailer release combined with an "Oblivion remake available... NOW" moment.

Nope. It was in the court documents and has been in development for a long while.

Correct.

The documents were leaked in 2023 during the FTC trial.

But, the documents themselves are from 2020 or so, from before Zenimax's acquisition closed.

They've had this planned and in some kind of development for a few years now.*

* A lot of these dates are clearly way too optimistic and didn't pan out, the covid lockdowns fucked a lot of it up way back when.
