I did but it was worst then the main game IMO
Because the game is a pain the ass with its shitty platforming and terrible ammo economy

One of the most disappointing sequels I’ve ever played, I loved 2016 to death

Eternal from an arena shooter perspective, is one of the best that's ever been made. It's everything you want in an arena shooter. From gameplay mechanics and design, it's vastly superior to the brain dead difficulty of Doom 2016 (which is still a good game). But people didn't like Eternal because they felt like they had to think too much. LOL, no. The fact that they made it a challenge, having to cycle through certain weapons and focus on enemy weak points etc. was great! This made the loop rigid with no adaptability it reduced every encounter to being identical to any other encounter removing all thought while being up its own ass. I don't even understand how people found the resource management difficult, Nah they found it boring, its just a layer of friction added to pad simplistic enemy behavior and mechanics it's the same as Doom 2016 But now with pomp and circumstance, it's still literally one button to pick up ammo except instead of it being on the ground, it's a chainsaw swipe to enemy fodder so same functionality but now with more steps. Want to refill your health, one button to glory kill instead of picking it up off the ground so same functionality but now with more steps. People are just butt hurt because they had to do it in the middle of combat and must be uncoordinated. The platforming was also a nice little break from the combat OK and let's you take a breather to take in the atmosphere of the game.

Edit: I've said this before on here but my (now) wife hates video games, doesn't even care or like to watch me play, I start playing games, she leaves the room. She saw me play Doom Eternal and she was in awe in the game design and she couldn't stop watching, she still says this is the only game she liked and wanted to watch me play. This is out of 100s of games she might of briefly seen me play. She's also a very intellectual person and she said it's really well made, so what does that say about Doom Eternal?

Both done on Nightmare. Incredible experiences.
I don't know how you possibly did it on Nightmare, I finished the Ancient Gods Part 1 and 2 (barely) on standard difficulty. They were significantly harder than the main game. It was actually crazy!

How many of you all completed the Eternal DLC? I'm sad the completion percentage is so low. They're so good.

I did. Second DLC was better than the first (the Hammer was fun). I'm of the belief that Eternal is one of the best action games ever made, but the bosses were god awful (including the DLC bosses) and the platforming I could do without. Excited to see more of Dark Ages!

In case some haven't seen it, here's the path tracing trailer I recorded at Nvidia's Editor's Day 2025. I'm waiting for my RTX 5090 to arrive. :D Trailer starts at 6:30.

Pretty cool. Is this trailer posted anywhere else?

I'll be honest with you this might become the first doom I buy Day 1. If MGS Delta doesn't get a release date before then this'll be my first purchase of the year.

I prefer Doom 2016(gameplay) since Eternal just felt like you just rotated between cooldowns and just Meathooked everywhere. If they remove the platforming and give good ammo economy even if through ammo mutation it might be more enjoyable.

Doom 3 still the best Doom game for me. Love me that dark atmosphere. The more games like Doom 3 the better.

Only thing I liked about Doom 3 was the tech, other than that the worst Doom game by far. Didn’t feel or look (in regards to the demons) like Doom.

It was the scariest by far.

It was cool at first, until the lame imps were reused over and over and over. Seen so few of the other enemies in the game. And the whole game was way too slow paced, and felt like a game from a different franchise altogether. And now it’s not scary at all compared to some like Alien Isolation.

I haven’t played any of the modern doom games

Are they one dimensional titles, basically just run + gun, or is there more variety and character building/progression, and puzzles built into the level design?

Platforming in doom eternal was fun, loved air dashing. Made the game paced well with all the shooting.

Low ammo and resource management i didnt like. Whatever route they take i love both modern games equally, Cant fuckin Wait.

I’d pay good money to see you stream Doom Eternal.

Would you rise up an pwn it like Monster Hunter World, or would you rage quit like Sekiro?

Would you pass the first Marauder? Would you even make it to him?

So many questions that need answers.

I just wanted my question answered…not sure if I’d like it if it’s just a basic linear shooter

It aint that deep bruh, let’s stop trying to pretend it’s some badge of gamer cred that other games aren’t
Play both games and post LTTP impressions. I’d love to read them. 2016 is more like classic Doom but still very different. Eternal is 2016 on steroids. Much more mechanically dense. It’s a divisive game because of that. Impossible to say what you would or wouldn’t enjoy.

Just wondering if there’s any hooks other than just shooting

Returnal had some really cool mechanics and level design and progression/item systems that I dug.

Is there anything like that? Do you build up your character in unique ways? Is the level design dense like Metroid?

Eternal was on sale for $10, I should have nabbed it

Both games have linear levels with battle arenas. In between the arenas are platfoming sections with secrets to find.

Doomguy and the guns have various progression systems. The stuff you need for progression are found in the secrets. You will replay levels to find stuff you missed.

That’s the tldr roughly

Could be dope, I think dark ages is more my style though. I don’t like super fast twitch stuff

Dark ages may have a bit more meat and depth to it as well, with more open areas

Doom 2016 first before Eternal

Its more than old DOS Doom games where you run around corridors and shoot

Good map designs, a return of labyrinth style shooter levels but now with a lot more verticality.
level layout can be altered by breaking walls or knocking down objects in the levels
Double jump boots, curb climbing to unlock new ways to travel around the map
first person platforming
a 3D map that you'll use if you want to unlock everything
hidden upgrades rewarding exploration
collecting suit and weapon upgrades
lots of secrets
Enemy chess piece design, strategy against them and picking the right arsenal is what differentiate boys from men in this game.
When they throw multiple types of enemies, it forces you to prioritize targets from the previous point as you should know which is more of a threat.
Forces you to not use cover and slow down the game. The game rewards fast aggressive players

Seems almost like it took notes from Metroid Prime. But this is 95% action. The 5% for the rest is taking a breather.

Sounds cool, I like the Metroid elements to
It.

Returnal was 95% action too, so I can see myself enjoying this.

Yes please be s real date. Doom is one of those games I've played from the beginning of my gaming hobby.

It's fast, frenetic, psychotic action along with the music is addicting.
