Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

Then don't play RDR 2 is my tip to you :messenger_grinning_sweat:
https://www.neogaf.com/threads/everything-feels-sluggish-in-rdr2.1680859/ 🤭
Same for me. I prefer to walk around, makes it more comfy and allows me to react faster to enemies.
same but I also usually love making my character pretty fast, and I think you can actually outpace the early horses pretty easily

With 70 speed and light armor I'm much faster the priory horse you get early on

Edit: not to mention I can level both athletics and acrobatics while traversing on foot

Oblivion runs surprisingly well on Steam Deck and looks gorgeous on that OLED screen.

Here it is happening again, and as you can see by the stars, it's night time. Anyway, maybe they'll fix it at some point.

Same thing, night time too. (Xbox)

Doing a new character since the previous one kinda sucked. First cave I go into I find a 15% reflect spell amulet. Seeing mages kill themselves with their own spells is fun. :goog_relieved:

some basic modifiers can be pretty damn good in this game

the first magic helm I found was a deer skin helmet with "detect life on self"

I figured it would be worthless, but this perk is surprisingly great. I think I only used it in the past to see invisible enemies, but with the helm it is always activated and it lets you see enemies through walls. for a stealth build, this is pretty damn amazing as you can fire off an arrow right as enemies are making their way around corners.

didn't realize detect life works through walls, looks like it has a 25 ft radius that penetrates walls

Is this true that Daggers give an 8x damage bonus while sneaking? I have a dagger from the dark brotherhood but never really investigated into this.

Don't know about the exact multipler but yes, daggers have a bonus on sneak attacks.

Thats good news. Makes me wanna try them out, honestly. I've played a sneak character in Skyrim and i could get close to the enemy without being noticed and get a nice sneak attack bonus.
Also i've come across some tips and tricks and they said don't hunt for uniques at the beginning as the items scale up with your level you get more out of it when you obtain them at a later point in the game.
It's also good to understand the lockpicking mini game, when you tab up the tumbler there is 3 different speeds that it can go up at, fast, medium and slow. While you can lock it at any speed its better to use the slow animation to lock it in place.

the 8x bonus is new to the remaster. another welcome balancing change. all weapons give a bonus if you attack while hidden, including bows, but the dagger was increased to 8x. previously there wasn't a reason to really use it over a short sword, besides the fact that it could apply poisons/enchantments quickly given how quick you can swing it

yes, many unique items scale with your level at the time you get the item. typically best avoiding getting uniques until later if you plan on using them end game. there is no method to increase the weapon level once you obtain it

How's performance been on PS5 Pro? I have the base, but been thinking of upgrading for this and some other games. Would play mostly in performance mode.

Couldn't you do like 30x sneak damage in Skyrim? Is that possible in Oblivion?
Check the perks of the sneak skill. Last perk is your sneak attacks ignoring enemy armor which sounds like an amazing boost to their damage.

I stumbled upon Umbra by chance, lol. It was totally unexpected, as I didn't know her existence back in 2006 so I never got the set

Unfortunately for her...

So many incredible views - but stumbling across this Oblivion gate randomly while being lost in the frozen mountain-side is instantly one of the most atmospheric moments i've ever had in gaming.

Sneak
  • Novice: Sneak Attacks with a Dagger deal 5 times more damage. Sneak Attacks with Bows, one-handed weapons and bare hands deal 2 times more damage.
  • Apprentice: Sneak Attacks with a Dagger deal 8 times more damage. Sneak Attacks with Bows, one-handed weapons and bare hands deal 3 times more damage.
  • Expert: Harder to detect in bright environments.
  • Master: Sneak Attacks ignore armor
Marksman
  • Journeyman: Has the ability to zoom when drawing a bow by holding the block button
  • Expert: 10% chance to Paralyze the target for 5 seconds on hit.
  • Master: 25% chance to Paralyze the target for 5 seconds on hit.

what is everyone running their brightness slider at? I just followed the instructions and made it -6 to the point where the logo is just barely visible and my game looks amazing on my G9 OLED but i feel like all the video's I'm seeing have the brightness slider jacked up because everyone else's gameplay looks washed out.

I just can't get over how terrible the NPCs look. They looked awful in the original but in a humorous way and the faces had consistency. They simply look disturbing in the remaster. I can't wait til they mod this if it's even possible.

Turn off "Dialogue Camera Transition". The focal length of it is effectively doing this for every NPC:

I finally decided to take some screenshots of non-zoomed dialogue and share them here, as I feel that it comes across better not only in terms of the NPCs themselves, but it also looks better artistically, in my opinion.

Still early game, going stealth archer. Is there another super fun build I should go for?
you don't need much for a stealth archer beyond marksman and sneak

you have a ton of options

I'm going heavy in magic because magic is very very fun in Oblivion. I think conjuration is particularly fun but I plan on going heavy into Alteration/Destruction/Conjuration

I'm also picking up blades for my shortsword or dagger, both of which rely on agility for damage, which is the same as the bow

Stealth archer was greatly buffed in this version to be semi-close to Skyrim's, so you should be fine.

Edit: And like I collect VHS tapes I collect VHS tapes is saying, you might need a spell or two to enhance the stealth archer build (like chameleon), but here is an example of how much better it is now:

I don't get how some people can look at the open world and say "meh". It's just so beautiful.

I also made a custom Reshade because I indeed think the color are too brown compared to the original.

To give an idea, Reshade off:

I've tried a few presets but they all go too far in my opinion.

That looks great, awesome shots there. Wish us console players could make the adjustments like you PC peeps.

I'm a few hours into this and having not ever played the original, this game is pretty incredible. It looks really good on my new OLED set and I'm being reminded how much I've missed great pacing and most of all, fantastic writing. Not even the slightest urge at all to skip any dialogue. Just taking it all in and enjoying the world.

I chose Redguard and customized my main skills. Some hard skill/birthsign choices with all the great options at your disposal. We'll see how this build comes along the further I get into this.

So...who else feels scammed by this piece of crap remaster? I'm on ps5 pro and the framerate is fucking awful! Not just that the graphics suck 75% of the time, the ai is completely broken and the gameworld is as dead as it always has been.

There's this "line" in the sky that extends the length of the screen .. like some god ray from hell bug that they couldn't figure out how to get rid of so they just left it in the game. Anyone else seeing that?

But the framerate dude! Does this game have a known memory leak? What I want to know is why so many clown Youtubers are praising and hyping this scam of a "remaster" still? I can understand for the first two days but after a week these fools should've realized how awful this product is on a technical level at least.

Maybe on a great PC with mods like you have but even on a Ps5 Pro it's ugly and filled with visual artifacts. Combined with some bad art decisions, foliage that is static, and the way they shaded trees this remaster honestly feels like I've been scammed. The framerate on Pro is horrendous.

Adept is unplayable hard. It was fun fighting rats, man to man, but these dungeons are murder.

I guess it's pretty broken.

They removed the sliders from Original. I"'m playing on Adept, it's challening but not impossible.

The game is unplayable on PC without upacaling, on Series S it's pretty much 20 FPS

Yeah it looks amazing. And your reshade looks perfect. How do you make things like that? Can you describe it or can you upload on Nexus Mods?

I always used to wonder… When you hit a level up but don't go to sleep immediately but carry on for a while, do the skill level ups you do carry on to the next level or are lost for the next level up?

Melee combat works pretty much like the Souls games, but with fatigue instead of stamina. With a raised shield, a hit takes chunks off your fatigue. I havent noticed before because Ive been slashing away with a sword and not thinking about using a shield. But it works pretty well against tougher enemies, Ive been one shotted a couple of times and going back with a shield and using it has worked really well. Its also a bit janky with the camera and no lock-on targetting, its painful trying to land a fireball on a moving enemy.

Its surprisingly tough at Adept, though, got one shotted a few times and rethink strategies. Probably easier as you level up spells and skills.
