Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

Get to Level 10 ASAP.

Do the Nocturnal Shrine quest.

Get Skeleton Key, never have to worry about lockpicks ever again.
Awesome ! I need that

Regarding the lock picking mechanic, I can't remember, is it easier when using controller? Is flicking the pins up analog or something like that? With WASD controls they bounce up/down with random speed making it extremely difficult to lock them in place. The whole mechanic feels random.

No, it's pretty bad. As much fun people make of Skyrim / FO4's lockpick system, it is a massive improvement over this.

Some more pics. I am just totally engrossed in this world. Even after finishing the major faction and main story quests, I'll still probably be spending tens of hours finding all the city quests.

I love the light hearted writing of rpgs like Oblivion, refreshing in a sea of post-apocalyptic and other depressing AAA games.

I hope Bethesda take a note out of Oblivion's book for Hammerfall.

It's always been an odd-feeling system, which is why I just buy the unlocking spells or buy a ton of lockpicks and spam the auto button for easy xp. I was hoping they would change it in favor of the one from Elder Scrolls Online, which is probably my favorite one due to being pressure-based:

The Skyrim one is really good if you are using a controller, the vibration function can be used to find the right spot and even at Level 1 Lockpicking you can open Master locks if you know what you're doing

I hadn't read this thread, so I stupidly updated the GP PC version and lost access to upscaling and FG. Why on earth would they pull DLSS/FSR/XeSS? Like, what dumb motherfuckers would even deploy an update like that. Does anybody know if it does that on Steam, too?
Yeah I'd just dialed in my settings to what i was happy with and I read this dlss removal patch shit. I'm like cool I just won't update, but the game won't run without the update. Why are Microsoft so inept 😂

It's fantastic, the world feels so alive. Only just started (10 hours in) and it's already my GOTY. I love how reactive it is to your actions and how npcs react to each other as well. I just had the imperial guard slay pirates for me by triggering a pirate attack while the guard was nearby, I never pulled out my weapons so the guard was simply doing his job removing a threat for the law abiding citizens heh

For everyone having the issue there's a simple fix here:

Worked fine for me although it doesn't seem to bring FG back to 120 fps.

There are more settings you can modify down the thread.

What do you mean? DLSS has always been there.
Yeah, but it was disabled in the last update. Or was it not?
Anyways the remaster has a whooping 88 on MC
I just love the hero lighting on the faces of NPCs when you talk to them, the faces look so awesome.

I haven't had any update. Are you on Game Pass? I'm on Steam and DLSS never went away. I checked my news and download pages, no updates.

I haven't read all the 25 pages so far, so apologies if this has already been discussed.

There's a particular graphical bug that's really grinding my gears. There are supposed to be particles. Dust, ash, whatnot. Still, a single pixel or few. And what happens, is that they get turned into 3D lines. One can rotate around them, and they stay static. This is on PS5, but I'm assuming it's the same elsewhere. How this made it past QA is beyond me.

Do you have motion blur enabled? After disabling it this went away for me.

That update is on Gamepass.
No probs I'm testing the limits of my rig at the moment, still running well, just a slight temperature increase in the room

It sure is Oblivion with a fresh coat of paint alright. While it looks the nice I'll wait until the performance issues get sorted out.

How are people having so much trouble with lockpicking?

It's a test of patience more anything. Don't lock any tumblers in place until you get the animation where they move up very slowly. Keep clicking up until you get that animation, then lock it in place.

I sorted out my performance issues by rolling back to an older version of Nvidia's Game Ready Drivers.

After running around the last couple hours with (almost) buttery smooth performance, I can say this game is my GOTY.

It just doesn't get better than Oblivion, no matter how old the underlying game is.

I've been playing for hours and just helped Ned Stark get to safety.

Yet I'm still level 1? What an I doing wrong here? My sneak and marksmanship is going up obviously but still. What am I doing wrong

are you sure you haven't leveled up and just need to rest in order to actually level up and use your skill points?

You have to sleep in a bed to level up

Edit: leveling can be pretty slow, unless you're working on more than those two skills at once it's possible that you haven't leveled even after a couple hours

I haven't rested because I've always been at full health. Can I rest in any bed I find or do I have to pay at a inn to level up?

I'm seeing some weird ass graphical issue on the water. When I look down its almost like the water gets a shadow over it, and the bow I have equipped is casting a weird reflection across the whole screen. Not sure what setting could be causing it

Disable screen space reflections. They left the option available even on consoles, probably because they know the implementation is shit.

If you go to the graphic settings and disable screen space reflections, you will no longer have that. Edit: as answered above, my bad.

It still happens when you enter new areas though, there's like five or six shadows of my bow across the screen.

you can rest at any bed that isn't red

as soon as you exit the sewers, there's some ruins directly in front of you on the other side of that little body of water

there's a bed you can use right there

you an also pay for an inn, and will unlock various beds the more you play the game

but yes you can use any bed you find in the world as long as it isn't red, meaning you'd be trespassing

edit: a spoiler-ish free early game free bed and permanent storage you can unlock can be found in Aleswell. not going to say anything else, but if you just look up where Aleswell is, it is right near where you start. help out the town and you'll get an inn you can stay at for free and a chest for permanent storage

went exploring in some random part of the map and I ended up inheriting a fucking
castle!!!

I do not remember this. maybe this was some DLC? is all the DLC already included in the game?

What race you all go with in this? New to the game. Cant wait to jump into this world.

Khajit for resist disease and free night vision.

It makes very little difference as far as the narrative goes, read up on all the unique perks each class has when making your character and decide therein.

Didn't know they've changed the perks granted as you level up skills. For example for Blade, in vanilla you got special attacks for knocking down or even paralyzing your opononents. Now it's weakness to blade and bleeding.

there seems to be a bunch of tweaks here and there that overall should help with balance issues

for example, shortswords were strength based in original but are agility based here, as are daggers. which is amazing because it makes total sense with a stealth archer build. those weapons attack extremely fast and pair well with a bow. now they both get modified with agility.

this is how a remaster should be done. leave 90% of the shit intact and only touch gameplay when it is a clear improvement

Thanks for the tip!!! Im level 9, been playing for awhile and haven't even gone east of the imperial city.

Great vague tip.though cause I'd really like to store some things.

Pour one out for my horsie, old nag sleeping in the meadows.

Killed by crabs while I was busy fighting a highwayman. Already lost the better horse I got from Weynon Priory, too. I think it ran off and is running free in the woods somewhere, No point reloading to keep this one alive, it was so darn slow. Gotta buy a new one, and new armor.
