Breaking: Xbox and Microsoft reveal global price increases for consoles, accessories — and even games

I am legit tempted to get the PS5 Pro since I can probably sell PS5 for more in a few weeks.

Not selling my XSX since I have a ton of BC and Xbox One games on it.

I mean, it's lame that things keep going up in price, but it's just the way everything is. I still think gaming is the best value entertainment medium even with these price increases.

I remember when the OG xbox was announced, I was 12/13, had like a years notice, had a paper round and saved up to buy it on release, if I could do that with a paper round back then, something has gone massively wrong if I can't afford a new console or 2 every 3 or 4 years

Funny thing is, everyone with an LG C2 or newer doesn't need an Xbox as they can just connect their controller to the TV and enjoy GP via stream without any additional box.

Except for the part where you have no access to most 3rd party games.

Bruh, I've never seen anything this stupid in gaming. You're struggling to sell hardware and you turn around to increase the price astronomically.
Who's stupid enough to pay $429 for a 1TB Series S in 2025. Or even the 512gb version at $379?

Why buy a Series X for $599 when a PS5 Pro is $200 more? Why take the PR hit of being the first to trigger the price scaling to $80 for games? Because now, everyone will follow suit.

Last time they hiked prices up, it was to launch Redfall at $70 🙄

It's clear Spencer needs to go. He doesn't have the balls to hold his ground with Nadella. Other MS divisions have a long history of trading losses to get users. They bled money for Azure until they hit a critical mass of users and now it's a money spinner. They put over $100bn in AI and that's yet to grow a profit, but they're happy to play the long game there.

The smart move would have been to slash console prices. Eat the losses and grow the userbase until they can reset for next gen.

Clowns at Xbox, tbh.

Wait for a clearance sale in 6 months once their sales go lower than anyone could possibly imagine.

This shit is going to be a repeat of $50 gamecubes.

PS5 Pro is $699. $100 more. The 2 TB Series X is $729. That is more than a PS5 Pro. MS has gone Full Retard.

Pretty incredible that Playstation seemingly are the last to increase game prices to $80 of the three console manufacturers. Especially considering their big tentpole titles probably are among the most expensive to develop compared to other single player games.

Probably won't be much longer til they increase prices though. Likely accompanying their next major release after Ghost of Yotei.
I don't see any reason for them not to increase prices now that both Nintendo and Xbox are doing so.

Why the raise in EU then ?

To spread the hurt? By making Europeans pay more Microsoft can subsidize US prices to a slightly more reasonable level. It's also better PR to announce that "prices go up by $100 for everyone" than "US prices go up by $200", because that would make all US Xbox fans say "FUCK MS FOR MAKING THEIR US CUSTOMERS PAY MORE THAN THESE !@#$ EUROPEANS!! NO MORE XBOX FOR ME!"

I don't find that this makes business sense. If the prices are higher in a country for X dumb reason, I don't see why you would have to raise the price elsewhere. Especially if you want to demonstrate how dumb this reason is. By raising the price everywhere, they are actually agreeing/validating/happy with the measure put in the US.

If the price hike is related to tariffs (which could very well be since Xbox Series S/X consoles are manufactured in China) then there's nothing MS can do. This trade war with China was just a bad idea and it's consumers who are going to feel the hurt when prices of all kinds of products become suddenly more expensive or start to disappear from shelves.

Meanwhile you can get a "barely used" Series X for around 250€ in Germany because nobody gives a fuck about Xbox here. Probably the one I'll get for GTA VI at some point and then get rid of it again later.

The beautiful thing about all this, the consoles and accessories stock already in the US will get the 'it's the tariffs' price hike too.

Same, I see 250-300€ ones on my local marketplace in the Azores, advertising 2 years warranty and receipt.

What's going on here, how is Nintendo and Sony maintaining their price points while ms are doing this. Are they just giving up? We will find out in few months time when traffics are lifted.
Who said Sony will maintain their price in the near future (in U.S., in Europe there were already rounds of price increase)?

Nintendo said they will keep the prices announced for the NS2 launch but then anything can happen. In short get a Switch 2 as soon as you can get one (at least if you are even a bit interested in one).

I've been gaming for a LONG time, and this is the first console generation in memory where the aging hardware was sold for MORE at the end of the generation than it was at the beginning.
By a lot too. I bought my Series X in Spring of 2021 for about €520 euros. Now it's €645 in my country.

Well I get all the shit happening with customs taxes but this is insane...

I mean the Gamepass isn't that successful... It's doing "alright" at best.

I miss when this industry was somewhat coherent. The 3DS was selling like shit in EU, after 2/3 months they lowered the prices by almost half. Same with the OG Xbox going from 479€ day one (I dunno what they were smoking), to 299€ after like 2 months. Even successful consoles like PS1/2/3 or 360 or SNES, etc, lowered the prices with times... I remember like 20/30% cut every 1 to 2 years...

Who the fuck who didn't want an Xbox Series S at 299$ will think "ahhh yeah at 379$, why not", and WTF at Series X at 600$/€, here in France on second-hand resale site there're tons on XSX at 350€ and nobody want them...

Nah. They'll raise the prices so when trade deals are reached and everything gets back to normal, they lower them just a little and it looks like a "deal."

They will do whatever they think is better for profitability.

In this case, they think that smaller price increase on everything everywhere is better than doubling the prices on all hardware and accessories in the US.

Do NOT wait to buy gaming console or games ever again. The prices will only go up.
Especially, do NOT buy gaming consoles after the price increase to vote with your wallet against this kind of practices. But you know, this is how the average consumer looks like:

So there is no hope left.

I wonder how many will panic buy a ps5 or pro right now if they were waiting for prices to go down. Must look real tempting at the moment

I don't know how much tariffs are at play here, but these hikes are so big, that if would be absurd (and dangerous for them) to offer a completely disconnected price in another market.
Nintendo to do that had to region lock their console after all.

So everyone gets a price hike but US gets more. For Series X, MSRP was 500 USD/550 EUR, now it's 600 USD/EUR. 100 USD vs 50 EUR price increase. USD is a bit weaker now than it was though.

So you're telling me that a console that the vast majority of fools use it for (renting games) are going to spend more money to buy one of these things when they can spend far less and buy an amazon firestick that does the exact same thing?! I mean, isn't this what Micro$oft REALLY want???

That ~600 Euro pro i bought (+ disc drive) looks like a smart move right now. With this I doubt pro price will stay in place this year. We will see...

This will be kinda interesting. If ms and sony both raise prices will nintendo respond despite what they announced earlier keeping prices the same.
