The Football Season 24/25: 115 Reasons For Man City Not To Win Anything

They need to stop calling it the champions league if the team with the least fouls and bookings all season gets a spot in it due to them playing nicely all season.

It hasn't been a 'Champions League' in a long time, probably it's whole lifetime. We've had 4 places available (3rd and 4th via playoffs) for years, far from champions of you're finishing 4th. But yes I agree if it's not even based on league finishes or winning other competitions then it's even more laughable.

Leagues won last week - why are you bothered?

Because they're going into the PSG game a goal down, away from home on the back of some very poor league performances. Plus there's the chance Newcastle, Man City & others could overtake Arsenal in the league, especially when you look at the upcoming fixture list.

Not looking good for Barca. If only they had Harry Yamal.
Well nice to see this topic here! Now.. I must admit this is match up is pure football entertainment, even though I'm not exactly impartial here as Real Madrid fan. But yeah these 2 legs must go down as one of the greatest semifinals.

Welcome!

Barca have came back from 2 down. Amazing second half, almost as good as United Vs Lyon.

PSG Vs Arsenal tomorrow... Who's gonna face them in the final...

Fuck sake just as I wrote that... 3-3. Unbelievable.

Yep absolute madness! Gotta love them wild Champions league nights!

Losing to Spurs in the final would be funny.

Anyone see the Championship playoff? A Bristol City player got sent off for fouling as the last man and torpedoed their chances, they lost 0-3 to Sheffield United.

It'll be interesting to see how he gets on and what he does with that squad.

It sounds like Wirtz is off to Bayern too.

Frank Lampard's Coventry have just lost 1-2 to Sunderland in other Championship playoff.

Sunderland's form has been crap though so it could change next week.

City drawing with Southampton wasn't expected! It's very close between all those fighting for the UCL places.

I figured that would be announced soon, especially now since him leaving Madrid was confirmed.

Not my first choice (Guardiola), but at least it isn't a defense freak like Mourinho. It is the most prestigious coaching position in the world, at least on the national teams, so it's not the place to take risks with second-tier foreign names.

Plus he has the right profile to make Brazilian players perform.

I'm more worried about the entire CBF political aspect than anything else.

Guardiola is obviously a brilliant manager. But I do wonder how well his style would translate to international football. He's known for drilling intricate patterns of play and building highly cohesive systems, which requires time on the training pitch. That's something you get far less of at the international level. On top of that, national team players spend most of their time playing under different styles at their clubs, so your style isn't going to be their primary one. That said, given how talented he is, I imagine he'd still find success. But for now, I see him sticking to club football a while longer.

I could see him taking the Brazilian job at some point though. Him being very pro-Catalan independence might make managing Spain an awkward fit politically for both sides and I believe he's even said before that he'd like to coach Brazil in the future.

Ancelotti on the other hand is a bit more vibes based, by which I don't mean to say he's tactically naive. But his strength is in man management and shaping systems around the talent he has, rather than imposing a rigid style. That kind of adaptability is valuable in international football, where you don't always have the exact player profiles you might want. And with limited time to work with the squad, being able to establish a strong group dynamic quickly can be really important.

Can you elaborate a bit more on the political situation at CBF? I haven't been following that much.

CBF from a political standpoint is a cluster fuck.

The new honcho is what we call here the armadillo that climbed the tree. No one knows how he got up there, but he still is there.

He's probably the scape goat of some very powerful people "behind the scenes" because Brazilian football is going through one of the worst managements in history and the guy remains up there. The biggest drought in title, the referees / var system are a joke. The media, who has the rights broadcast the Brasileirão + national team games, does not criticize him enough (besides some independent journalist here and there), etc.

To give you an idea, R9 was trying to gather support to become CBF's president in the next term. The man, with all his prestige, wasn't even received by the state federations (the ones who elects the CBF's president) to discuss the situation... (And We know why...)

The man was undisputedly reelected with accusations that he forged signatures... It's big f* mess

always thought Amorim would be able to turn United around and im still hopefull but its getting hard.

its such a shame because he really is a great couch but united has more than a decade of problems to handle. everyone bitched on ronaldo after the piers interview but he was as real as you can be about the problems in the club. it seems they stopped in time and are living of the cocktaiks of the beckham/giggs/ronaldo/rooney/scholes/ferdinand/keane/van dar sar era and since then the club have been horribly managed. From buying bad players that cost a lot of money to a lot of other things.

Amorim with a bit of luck (i really wish it wasnt an english team but here we are) wins the trophy and then im sorry but a lot of player will have to leave in order for the club to rise again.

Hopefully he's given time. He's inherited a squad which was already 'rebuilt' to what ETH wanted but this doesn't fit with how Amorim plays, INEOS knew this before hiring him so they need to give him time (and money if there is any) to get the right squad setup. I just hope this doesn't mean selling all our promising academy players (Mainoo, Garnacho, Amad etc).

Penultimate game week of the season starts tonight!

You would think only Garnacho is at risk unless Mainoo wants a silly contract.

Can't see Amad going anywhere.

Chelsea player dived in the box. Ref gave penalty. VAR overturned it. No yellow given to the player afterwards for the dive.

Amad dived in the box. Ref didn't give penalty but did book Amad.

Double standards. Same game.
