GOG Dreamlist: Let's Make Dreams A Reality

As many of you know, GOG released a feature called GOG Dreamlist. Through this, people can vote on games that they would like to see released on GOG.com. One such release was Breath of Fire IV. I voted on it, then I put my money where my mouth is, and bought it.

The past couple of days, I have been thinking to myself: What if a lot of people voted on some of the game that are out there, and help pump those numbers up.

Lately, I have had the urge to play Football Manager 2007. Why? I liked the game, simple as that! The problem is that it understandably isn't a game that a lot of people would vote for. Normally, as a last resort, I would sail the high seas, but I don't know how easy it is to play some of these older FM games with their antiquated DRM shenanigans.

What I want said is that why don't we as a community post games that we would like to see released, and upvote each other's picks. Maybe it won't work for everything (like FM2007), but maybe some games only needs that last push to actually get released.

So, without further ado, here's links to two games that I will begin suggesting:
Football Manager 2007
Shining Force III

The new games have way better systems etc. Why would you want to play this one specifically? (I get it if its for the roster)

You can get the older rosters here: https://www.fmscout.com/a-football-manager-retro-databases.html

I have FM2020, and FM2024. I have also tried some of the roster changes, which are fun, but FM2007 itself was one of my favorites in general. The 2007-2008 database is almost the one I want. It's the 2006-2007 from FM2007 that interests me, but not only the database itself, it's all of the game.

But I see that there is zero interest in people gathering to share what games they would like to be upvoted, which isn't a surprise.

Shining Force 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games ever, so I voted for 3. I didn't know it had a PC version!

Edit: They have the Dune rts games listed. Everyone should vote for those

Easy thumbs up:
Riddick games, Prey, No One Lives Forever 1 and 2, Contract JACK

My big Dream for GoG is that they say on the store pages the PC requirements to run on my current Windows machine or at least warn me that the game will not work on my Windows machine before I spend money and have to do the work and research myself.
I like using GoG to buy older games and it's surprising how many are available that can't be played right away with a simple install or compatibility setting. Extra work is needed to run stuff.

I agree with this. It's also why the "infinite backwards compatibility" argument for PC gaming is largely just utter horseshit.

But I do like the work that GOG's doing in making sure that more and more of the catalog is up to snuff on modern machines. Personally, Divine Divinity getting fixed on modern hardware is probably my most wanted thing.

Hey that's cool! Glad to see some of my picks already getting lots of votes.

I believe any games being released from the wish list will be under the GOG Preservation program. https://www.gog.com/en/gog-preservation-program

So they should just work on your new PC unless there's something wrong with your setup.

This is a nice step in the right direction. I would also like to see a central repository for the most common needed files to make older games compatible with newer hardware. As things are now, I have a folder for most used files but still need to go to weird dark places on the web to download questionable things.

GOG games are normally packaged with DOSBox, SCUMMVM, or wrappers to work with never versions of Windows. What games are you having issues with? If there are issues due to Windows updates on an un-updated release, the GOG forum normally has instructions and fixes linked.

PC Gaming Wiki also has articles on tons of games with links to fixes. https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/ So you can run non-GOG games.

The most recent one I bought was a pain. The original Amerzone 1999. I got frustrated and also bought it on Steam only to find out the same issues over there too. :(

That looks like a GOG release from 2010 that might not have been updated.

Both the GOG forum and PCGamingWiki say to download dgVoodoo2 and extract the files to the root of the game install. That will make the game use GLIDE instead of trying to use DirectX7 for graphics.

Dune 2000
Emperor: Battle for Dune
The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth

I'm surprised Dune 2000 isn't on GOG yet.

That's one that definitely needs to be released. One of the gems from the Golden Age of RTS games.

There's been a ton of old school SSI games on GOG, but some reason (last time I checked way back) Allied General is still not there. I could probably find an abandonware copy if I look hard enough, but I like to buy my games on Steam/GOG to support them and make it easy to launch.

I remember renting it on PS1 way back and thought it was a good typical WW sim.

It's not largely horseshit when it's true. An overwhelming amount of games still do just work. That being said GoG from my personal experience is great about fixing stuff before they sell it, Jade Empire is an infamous example

Afaik, there's all kinds of licensing bullshit going on with the Dune RTS games. So Dune 2000 will most likely never be put on GoG or Steam...

About some games not working out of the box: It's unfortunate that some don't work, but more often than not, there will be an unofficial fix. I do understand if some people don't want to bother with that.

One can still not downplay that hundreds/thousands of games still work.
