If You're Not Buying a Switch 2, How Come?

Why are you not buying a Switch 2?

I bought Switch 1 in December 2017. In September 2019, they released a new, better model, with a battery two times better.

So now, I will wait until Switch 2 V2.

I lost excitement for the Switch 2 once the PC handhelds came out. Between owning a Steam Deck( since sold) and currently a Legion Go that covers like 70% of my gaming now as Steam is my primary ecosystem. 20% I'll give to Playstation and the remaining 10% Nintendo. Their IPs except Metroid and Zelda don't have the same appeal to me they once did, and Nintendo's strategy of keeping their games at MSRP has just turned me off over time. It means I'm waiting for long periods of time for their once in a blue moon 30% sales, which reduces the library I'm going to acquire for it over time. In the meantime I'm buying cheap Steam Keys off reseller sites for pennies on the dollar and getting hours upon hours of gaming for the price of one Nintendo game. Eventually I'll probably get one once Metroid Prime 4 drops, but there's no rush to get one now. Maybe something unannounced surfaces that blows me away, but nothing in the launch window is convincing me to fork over 5 bills. I just feel nothing as far as FOMO or hype, even on a website like this reading people's excitement for the thing. I'm just numb to it all.

EDIT: Other thing is, and this is not to get into whether or not the system is worth $450 for the tech, especially in today's economy. But all the same, I've always had Nintendo as a supplementary console used mostly for exclusives. At the Switch 2 asking price, that's getting into the Xbox/PS5 range and as I said above, I don't play many Nintendo exclusives anymore. I already have a $450 'complementary' system, my PS5, that accounts for like 20% of my gaming as aforementioned. As it stands right now, I'm not paying that out for a system I will likely use even less than my PS5 ( which is barely), having it sit in my drawer waiting for the next Zelda to come out or whatever. It's gonna have to accumulate a library of at least 6 exclusives I really want before I plop down the cash. And by that point, I'm sure they'll have an OLED revision out.

if I can buy one with no fuss I'll get it for enhanced games like TOTK, but the initial lineup is not compelling to me and I need to see a couple of megatons from Nintendo this year.

1. Nintendo games are not my cup of tea.
2. Eur 90 physical games.
3. Physical games cough digital key cough.

Nintendo should be sent a message by their customers, not accommodate them.

Mainly:
-Not enough software that interests me: The only game they've announced that interests me is DK. And while it looks fun, it doesn't look $520 worth of fun.
-Software is too expensive: $60 games that never go on sale was around the limit of what I'm willing to pay for games. $80 games that never go on sale just takes it too far.

I'm sure I'll be tempted once they release a 3D Zelda, new Monolith game and new 3D Mario. But I'll reconsider once those games are out.

Three reasons in my case:

  • I have no need for handheld gaming, and Switch 2's docked capabilities are okay but not impressive.
  • I wouldn't play 3rd party games on it. That only leaves 1st party to justify a purchase. I only like a couple Nintendo franchises (Zelda, MK), which wouldn't be enough.
  • I'm basically a one-console guy, and PS seems to have me covered.

Don't sleep on Splatoon.
Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion got Portal vibes with its clever stage design. The Side Order DLC for Splatoon 3 is a superb rogue-like, that particular DLC got little fanfare and Nintendo deserves more credit for it. I prefer it over Returnal.

Thanks for reminding me, the character designs in this game are hideous.

I had a pre-order for one at GameStop but decided against it and cancelled it. Between PC and PS5 (I have XSX and Switch as well) and my intent to buy a SteamOS handheld this year, there's just nowhere for Switch 2 to fit in right now. I'll get a Switch 2 eventually for sure, I'm just not sure when.

Waiting for the inevitable OLED version, even if it'll take a couple of years. I have more than enough games to play right now and by the time Switch 2 OLED releases, there will be more than just Mario Kart and some upgraded Switch 1 titles. No rush.

I'll get one when I can find one without fucking around w/ scalpers, refresh spamming, or staying awake all night. I'm too old for that shit and have plenty of games to play already.

Dont care for portable.. so the switch its a home docked console for me .. and I cant justify paying a premium for at most last gen 10 year old hardware to play fcking Kirby.

If I enjoyed portable gaming .. maybe down the line.

I was wanting a Switch a year ago but waited because I knew a new system was coming. Now, I'd rather get a handheld PC or even a Steamdeck.
Yeah, I feel like any hype I had for Switch 2 peaked like a year ago. But it just feels like its been dragged out so long that the FOMO decimated instead of multiplying. The most exciting frontier for me right now in gaming are the 2nd/3rd waves of PC handhelds coming out over the next year or two.

Im not a handheld gamer, in area where i live u would get jumped imediately when some1 spotted u gaming on such an expensive device, hell ppl lose their jackets/shoes/100$ phones on a daily basis for this very reason :D

And since i dont care/cant really take advantage of switch 1/2 portable mode(maybe only on the toilet, but those campaigns arent prolonged enough )- in my eyes it just looks like extremly weak/nerfed stationary console(i know its handheld hardware and very ambitious specswise for what it is but endresults matter here).

I have deep love in my heart for many nintendo ip's/ games but wish they offered much stronger exclusively stationary device that is strong enough to play all switch2 games at least in native 4k60(or dlss quality which is very close to that, at least when it comes to its transformer model aka dlss4)- something like 5060ti 16gigs aka under 500$ gpu, so total 700$ priced console would be perfect, around ps5pr0 powerlvl.

Im spoiled by having 3080ti from back in mid 2021 which is about 2x stronger from base ps5, superhard to get back to a lvl which is maybe at around a quarter of ps5(xss is around one/third) :messenger_astonished:

TLDR: To my precious beautiful switch2:
its-not-you-its-me-pinocchio.gif
You're missing out on a ton of great, exclusive, games. Sucks to be you I guess...

The main reason is that the money that would have gone to Switch 2 I spent on a Quest 3 instead.

Maybe I'll get it later, if it's cheaper. In this economy I might end up just paying more for the same thing. Hopefully not.

Where to start....
  • Cost. I can afford it but....the price is quite off-putting to me. I can see $350 for the cost. Maybe even $400. But $450+? PAUSE.
  • Games. Nintendo games with a "variable pricing model" is a turn off for real. $80 for Mario Kart 9 (World ) is fucking crazy.
    • Granted, we are NOT in the late 1980's or the 1990's where games had NO MSRP and their cost was pretty all over the place. Still, my point stands.
  • Game Formats - Knowing that not all games are gonna be cart only is a massive turn off, especially with the download code in a box shit. 5 FULLY (50gbs) loaded downloaded games will completely fill up that 256 GB's of internal memory.
  • No killer apps make it not worth owning at the moment. Mario Kart World is nice but it's not a system seller for me.
  • No quick resume on the console and less battery life. About 2-2.5 hours or so via handheld mode.
  • No OLED on the initial release; might come next year. Even the original PS Vita had fucking OLED!
  • Locking the rewind and CRT filter features for the Nintendo 64 online behind the Switch 2 is fucking ABSURD. This is greedy as fuck here.
  • Locking OG Switch game upgrades behind a paywall, and not even with all DLC, is INSANE. Even the PS4/5 has a very generous upgrade path here.
  • Peripherals are...still expensive here. Using a camera at a low FPS but can't be integrated into the Joycon is an odd choice.
  • Backwards Compatibility issues....WHY IS THIS SHIT STILL A PROBLEM?

I gave up on Nintendo with the Switch. 3rd generation in a row where they were mostly just rehashing old games on anemic hardware. The Zelda games were a nice surprise but I'm not gonna buy a system for 1-2 releases per gen. Additionally I do appreciate higher end tech and that's pretty much the contrary of what Nintendo has been doing for 3 gens now.

I also think that everything about Nintendo's pricing this gen is as anti consumer as it gets so that's another reason.

"Dont care for Nintendo"

Main reason:
- Nintendo 1st party games are not appealing to me with the exception of Zelda
- I can play the 3rd party games in much better hardware.
- Main appeal of a switch is the portability but all portable console i own end up getting very little use. When im outside i like to be aware of my surrondings i rarelly look at my phone and never play games outside, and when at home i rather play games on a big screen.

I've barely used the Switch 1. Switch 2 and the games are far too expensive for me. And the only game I'm halfway interested in is Metroid and that doesn't even have multiplayer. Maybe I'll have a look at it when it can be emulated.

Don't care about Mario Cart at all

I got the 3DS, Wii, Wii U and Switch and they always gathered dust after a short while (FOMO is a curse)

Not a huge fan of Nintendo's output with a few exceptions

My best Nintendo experiences were on PC emulators, never the real thing

Switch 2 is more of the same thing, it doesn't have a system selling feature like waggle or 3D. If I want to play games with a mouse, I've got a PC. And the chat function looks like complete rubbish.

Nintendo games are completely overpriced and don't get any substantial price cuts compared to PC and PS.

My gaming these days is playing Switch with my two girls (4 & 7) and getting quite a few games on the Switch created some good memories with the girls.

Luigi's Mansion 3 and 2 during Halloween, Mario Kart wintery tracks during Christmas, Mario RPG and Peach Showtime during Thanksgiving break.

With games being pricey, don't think I'll be making the jump anytime soon. Rather I'll keep playing what we have for the Switch. Hell they're playing New Mario Bros Switch as I'm typing this.

Was really hoping for the Switch model (great entry price, games) to continue with complete backwards compatibility (insert all already owned physical cart in slot) but that's not the case. Unfortunate to say the least.

I'm not very interested in any current Switch 2 game besides DK Bananza.
That being said it will probably take a few years for a working Emulator (that sucks)

I hope they do raise the price, Nintendo and all the fanboy tools about to get a reality check, the world doesn't revolve around that shit company. They're already gonna fuck themselves with $80 games. That goes for anyone raising their prices to $80.

Not sure if it's worth it for just Mario Kart.
Game prices are off-putting, especially when you know they will likely stay at that price.
Might buy PC parts instead.

I'd love to get one, but I know it's going to be damn near impossible. So, if I can get one this year via Amazon or walking into a store I'll consider myself very lucky.

Nintendo simply is not what it used to be, and I think the Switch 1 itself proved that.
People who are in love with the Switch 1 probably don't care, and that's fine. I don't begrudge them that. But Switch was the age of whoa-oh-whoa-oh-oh soulless trailers and almost equally-soulless games (in my opinion) and I have zero interest in more of the same.

Nintendo are no longer the wild creatives they used to be. Their charm has been replaced with weird, sterile, corporate Charm(tm), and their games are just kind of weird now. They don't promise quality the way they absolutely used to. They were masters of their respective platforms, once. Now they just try to do what others do, who almost always do it better, and then whine and sue when someone mimics them in turn.

Litigious, creatively-barren, and actively trying to destroy their own history and legacy.

Nah, man, I'm out. Switch is my last "Nintendo."

EDIT: Not a MP shooter enjoyer, but I will admit those character designs are great. They'd make for excellent glossy stickers. They'd be on my refrigerator, for sure.

I am done with buying consoles at launch, it just don't make sense for me anymore. You pay a premium day one and have less games to play at launch, than your waiting years for games which end up releasing at a time when the console becomes cheaper.

Got a PC now and a pretty big backlog so I can wait until the switch 2 makes sense to purchase at a later time.

all console could rase price arm nort banker alls i knows is switch 2 will get mannnnnnny good games for me to play ahahah

I did pre-order one. I used the Switch 1 a bunch throughout the years. It was definitely a worthwhile investment for me.

I considered the Switch 2 bought when they announced backwards compatibility. I can sell my old system, maintain access to my library and there's the promise of future releases which will likely be fantastic. Even if the Switch 2 ends up a Wii U level failure, I'd consider it a decent buy.

Happy with the Switch.

No FOMO.

Launch games aren't interesting.

Nintendo fans are the only fanbase who love getting abused by their corpo of choice.

Don't like what Nintendo is doing with the Switch 2.

I need to see AT LEAST 3 fire exclusives that make me make a soy noise in a Direct to even consider buying.

Its too outdated, the mic is on the unit itself instead of the joycons which makes no sense, the camera in parties is <5 fps. No good games have been announced yet, just a ton of ports.

Too expensive, no OLED screen, physical games that aren't really physical,

Moreover, Nintendo can go fuck itself after its recent, conservative, and opaque policy changes on content, and its persecution of emulation and modders.

For me:

Price is too high
"Waiting" for games
Don't care for Nintendo (generally)
Other reasons

Mostly in terms of "other reasons", I'm somewhat headed for a post-gaming life. I finally got there, gaming has largely lost it's luster for me and it's unlikely I will ever game much again. Especially not the way I have over the last 30 years of my life. I'm doing other stuff, and the stuff I most want to play or am willing to pay for I can get on my PS5 and my PC.

I also included "don't care for Nintendo", because that is largely true historically, but the reality is this is by far the most appealing Nintendo console for me personally since Nintendo 64. So I might eventually buy it.

If they get to a point (which by all accounts they will, within a couple years or so) where they have Duskbloods, a new cool Mario, TOTK enhanced, a new Metroid a la Dread, along with other great 3rd party stuff that goes well with handheld (Silksong??) and other cool Nintendo remakes/remasters that I may have missed in the past... that would be hard to turn down. Gonna take a little while to get there though, for me.

Mario Kart does look quite good, but is frankly not the kind of game that is going to be in the category of "buy this at launch". I own the deluxe version of 8 or whatever it is on Switch, and I've barely played it. Great games, these kart games, I realize that, but just overwhelmingly aren't for me.

Additionally, only one of my friends secured a preorder.

Oh I admit no OLED is also really annoying. I likely wouldn't have bought anyways, but if that was an option that would definitely hasten any potential future purchase.
