If You're Not Buying a Switch 2, How Come?

Why are you not buying a Switch 2?

Don't care for Nintendo.... and even if I cared I'd think twice before paying a lot more for both the console and the games. My real test will be when PS6 launches, that's assuming Sony will introduce even more anti-consumer changes and price hikes.

I'll buy one as soon as I can find one. No games at launch worth camping out or going out of my way hunting for a pre-order.
Almost every major retailer is going to have extra units at launch. Though how long those will last is unknown. If you really want one just show up at launch a couple of hours before bestbuy or target opens.

Mostly waiting for more games, also waiting for hardware revision since first models are always prone to have some hardware failures. Also, I'm waiting for a new model, it got nearly everything I need except HDMI 2.1 that would enable 120 FPS in 4K and VRR.

Games over here are $90. Console is $678. Even if I was interested, the only current games I would be interested in are Bravely Default, and RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army. The first one might go on PC at a later date, like every other team Asano game. The second one is multiplatform.

One of the main reasons is I don't like that the game carts basically just act as an activation key to download the game on your console. Also the fact they they can just brick your console for whatever reason as well, not that I'd tinker with it in anyway for that to happen, but the fact this is a thing is very off-putting for me.

I don't play games. Only shitpost about them.

Huge Switch backlog already, game prices, and lack of physical games mainly. And I feel Nintendo is being greedy, and might veer into lazy coasting (like Sony). Will wait and see.

welcome to 2017 when day 1 games only had part of the game on the cart and the rest had to be downloaded.

I'm hyped, would buy a Switch 1 again for 400€s just to play a new Mario Kart! I know I'm part of the problem but 80€s a game isn't a deal breaker for me. I just buy like 1 game a month. 10 or 20€s more for games a month will not kill me.

All of that has been the case for all three consoles for years now.

I will get one in the future. Currently still supporting Switch 1. Also, I can play my brother's Xbox one and series X since most 3rd parties hit that. He does buy physical copies when he can.

It is just too ridiculous price, specially in my region were Nintendo just said "fuck you" and charge 600+ bucks.

Then I knew that most of all games will use these "digital card" stuff and that just kill it for me. I pass.

I voted too expensive and no games.

I also voted I'm getting one! At the moment I have two preordered.

On the one hand I travel a lot. These days I usually take a PC laptop for gaming but I still carry Switch and dabble with that. if it was possible to just leave a PS5 at work I'd have bought a Pro for that already.

So on the one hand I'm hoping switch 2 will be a good bump in quality for previous gen titles for on the road entertainment.

Then there's MK - I'm not giddy about it but sure I want to see what an open world MK and launch title for switch 2 is like. Also want to play wind waker. It's one of the zeldas I didn't get into and seems like it's been difficult to get at for a while now.

And finally, it's new stuff and that always helps you the interest value.

So ok those are the upsides.

Downs? I live and work in countries which won't get the first round launch. So to preorder one from a mom/pop store is basically scalper price. I think it works out to $800 for the mario kart version.

And that's just the beginning of the bleeding with the price of games.

And of course, it's only MK. Metroid is still a generic 2025 release... And that's about all I'd be hyped for first party wise. Kirby and DK could be great but I'm kind of wait and see on those.

Which means switch 2 will mostly be for playing back catalog stuff and third party - most of which I've have access to elsewhere and probably in better quality.

So yes, I'm wavering on those preorders. They were impulse clicks that I may well roll back on. I can probably buy one cheaper going through an airport somewhere than these prices.

And for sure if it wasn't for travel I wouldn't even glance at one for launch with the lack of Nintendo games. It makes me wonder if Nintendo will now fall down the hole Sony and Xbox first party did - it just takes too long to get games out the door. If Nintendo can't manage a better launch line up for Switch 2 which has been a long time coming, it doesn't look good for release cadence going forwards.

Is Nintendo setting up another Wii U with this? That also makes me want to wait and see...

Well I couldn't secure a pre-order and I also still haven't been emailed back yet by Nintendo.

So I guess my next course of action is to wait a couple weeks and just hope to see one on a store shelf sometime this summer 🤷‍♂️

I guess luckily for me there's no killer app this time like BotW so I can wait, it's fine. I'm enjoying Fantasy Life so much on Xbox right now that I prolly wouldn't have the time to play anything on Switch 2, anyway. Albeit oddly enough I'm more excited for GameCube NSO than I am for anything else at the moment. The announced first-party lineup is… currently meager. Tho I imagine the June and September Directs will change that.

Simply not enough games to justify buying it day one and fighting with limited stock, plus dealing with all the other early adopter stuff.

When there's more Switch 2 only games, then I'll consider one. Until then, my Switch 1 suits me just fine.

I figure in a year or two there will probably be an OLED iteration and then, with a couple years of games under its belt, it'll be worth getting.

Edit: Also, kinda waiting for these microSD Express cards to inevitably come down in price. Not interested in paying $60+ for 256gb, especially when most of that would be taken up by my existing Switch library for backwards compatibility.

In handheld it's about a steam deck. You're better off with a steam deck given the library and other stuff you can do (like emulation).
I have a legion go, which is 2x the power of the steam deck in some cases. I have no interest in even emulating any Nintendo games.

Will wait for a special edition, since I aways end up wanting those after buying the base model. The high price and no games makes it easy to wait

I didn't get a preorder, and I'm not going to check stores and laggy stock apps. (That shit SUCKED when I was trying to get a SNES Mini.)

I will just wait until stock stabilizes and I can stroll into a store and buy one, short of somehow seeing one in the wild after launch.

Everything too overpriced. I ain't paying that much for the console and games for last gen graphics (I don't care if it's portable, I used my Switch 1 docked 99% of the time). Canadian prices are just insane, plus Nintendo rarely has sales on their own games.

The main reason I bought the switch 1 was to play mainline zelda and smash bros. When the next installments of those things come out I'll consider getting a switch 2.

I'm good. Don't really care for another Nintendo console just to play a handful of games. Just waiting for the next generation of PC handhelds tbh.

Might veer? Nintendo has been coasting for most of the switch's lifespan already.

For me it's the lack of Nintendo own games, I had a preorder and all accessories in to start with then slowly cancelled stuff till other week when cancelled lot as not paying £450 to play Mario kart, u got donkey Kong next month then after that nothing apart from just slightly higher Rez or frame rate switch 1 games or 3rd party games I've already been playing for last 2 yrs

1. Dont care about Nintendo first party games.
2. I like racing games like GT and Forza and Nintendo doesn't have one of those.
3. I play 3rd party games and Nintendo is not the best place to play 3rd party games.

I wonder if it will get FH5. It was on Xbox One so should be doable.
