PS5 and PS5 Pro Have VRR Stuttering Problems (Update Per Sony PR to DF: "the latest PlayStation firmware resolves the VRR hiccup issue")

TV broadcasting in my country is digital why is NTSC still a thing?

I get why support on tvs was kept for analog signal that was still used for many years in many parts of the world after HD tvs appeared.

But consoles and graphics cards made after 202x not using full 60Hz and 120Hz by default? This is peak idiocy.

basically anything that wasn't relying on an RF video output should have switched to an even 60hz.

for consoles with an RF out it was necessary due to the TV essentially seeing it as an actual TV channel, which meant it had to fit a specific frequency band.

the last console generation that officially supported RF signals was gen6. but even there it was an external RF modulator adapter that you had to buy... and the PS3 supported it in a roundabout unofficial way because the PS2 RF modulator did work with the PS3.
so it survived a surprisingly long time, probably due to the input chaos that was going on in the US.

in Europe basically any decent TV that released starting in the 80s had a Scart input. (it was even required by law in France to some degree).
the first Scart compatible TVs released in the 70s.
that's a port that was absolutely ahead of its time, being able to support up to 1080i component signals at the end of its lifecycle in the late 2000s.

I think if the US adopted Scart or had a similar standard, this whole 59.94hz nonsense for consoles would have been gone by now.

Time to adopt FreeSync, Sony. Instead of relying on just the HDMI group standard.

FFS, AMD is your balls deep partner.

It'll also increase the coverage range by default for 60hz content. They should have done it along with the new generation.

Sounds like the newest update has fixed the issue can anyone confirm?

Was that mentioned anywhere?

Someone posted this on Reddit, but not sure if it's bait:

How could they even mess this up? Holding off playing Days Gone Remastered until it's fixed. Is it fixed?
Honestly everytime I noticed stuttering I thought it was more because the fps were out of the VRR range so I don't know what exactly I have to look to notice such issues.

There's a DF video in the OP.
My question is: you noticed it before the DF videos? Because if not, I'm not looking to it, thanks. I'm already too much obsessed to other tech flaws so I'm happy to live in the ignorance.

Very vague message. Why not mention VRR issue aside maybe it's just fixed for specifics screens.

I saw the update and hoped there would be a fix in it.

Sony never publicly acknowledged the issue, so wouldn't be surprised if they gloss over a fix. It probably impacts like less than 5% of players.

Not only do you have to have a PS5/Pro, you have to have a tv that supports VRR, have the VRR setting on, playing in a mode that supports VRR and I believe unlocked frames I could be wrong there, and being playing a game that is impacted.

I'll test it some point today and report back.

Can't say I noticed it while trying The Last of Us Part I just now - a game featured in DF's video. Played for about 30 min and started looking for the issue. Also used my TV (LG C2) frame counter and no spikes to 120. If my system was affected I was never bothered by the issue. I hope it's fixed for everyone, anyways.

Looking like PlayStation have finally resolved the stuttering issue.
Finally…..now where there's that SH2 Pro patch!?

I had moved my PS5 Pro so I'm starting with a controlled test

Time: 3:46pm ET
Game: TLOUP1
TV: LGCX77 on latest firmware (Ps5 is connected to audio receiver)
PS5 Pro: previous firmware

Will update within the next 30 minutes to see if it is still happening.

One thing I noticed is how crazy noisy the game is on the 77 inch screen.

Update: I screwed up the control test. TV and AVR weren't configured to pass through VRR.

Starting test over at 4:30pm ET

I'm just quoting this post to say that Forspoken is really cool, not particularly woke, absolutely worth everyone's time and attention, and no, I am not joking or being sarcastic.

I don't even know what stutters are and would otherwise not be posting in this thread.

Nice try, rofif.

I'm the new and best console! But you can only choose between ugly performance, and good looking low frames. Which would you like? Stutter
